Today's topic: Is there one song you wish you could wipe off the face of the planet?

The above GIF probably spoiled my answer but if I never hear The Proclaimers (or anyone else for that matter) sing "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)"  ever again then I can be cool with that.

Someone shared this opinion about the song 7 years ago and I think it is still accurate to this day:

I can't stand this headache-inducing bilge. Considered a staple of UK birthday party soundtracks and overplayed to an uncomfortable extreme, this dreck just drives me insane and I have to block it out with my own music every time it comes on the radio. And yet, its popularity continues. I feel like the only Briton who doesn't want to immediately jump up and sing along to this steaming pile of horseshit every time its memorable opening starts up.

Another review of the song:

Scotland has given us many fine things (like golf, scotch, and Groundskeeper Willie), but that doesn’t excuse these twins for combining impenetrable dialect with a nasal whine. Worse than haggis

Do you agree?
Or do you have a song that makes you want to stab your ears with knitting needles?

Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you tomorrow.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

    1. Very specific, Kelly, but a good choice.

  2. While I never liked the song these reviews had me howling! I had an ear worm of a country song from the 90s. Now mind you I don't listen to country. But they kept advertising it on TV and Radio that he was coming to town and that song played. then my husband would sing what he heard on TV just to drive me mad. Honestly it was horrendous - go ahead google it - you too can have this stuck in your head. "I got a thinkin' problem" with all the twang to make you want to poke out your ear drums. Yes, I'm a bitch.

    1. I will take your word on it, Peg. I don't think I want that ear worm.

  3. I absolutely hate "Santa Baby"; it will drive me right out of a store if I hear it playing. I don't like the Eagles much but "Hotel California" or "Lying Eyes" are my got-to-get-away songs. Most country music, especially twangy nasal stuff, is painful for me to listen to.

    1. You are like the Dude. He hates the Eagles too. It's a funny scene in "The Big Lebowski."

  4. That’s funny because that song doesn’t bother me at all. I’m with the previous commenters; most Xmas music annoys me (esp. Christmas Shoes, or whatever it’s called) and country music. An 80’s song I despise is Come On Eileen.

    1. Come on Eileen is certainly annoying. No argument there, Bijoux.

  5. There are a few songs that when I'm in the car and they come on, my finger can't get to the buttons fast enough. But i can't think of the names of any, which is good. Otherwise they might pop into my head right now and I'd be mad at you! 😄

  7. Hey, I like that song! Probably because the only time I hear it is when I dust off my old Benny& Joon DVD.
I loathe everything by Mariah Carey. High pitched screeching, ugh!

  8. So many songs I play at discos I hate but if I know they get people on the dance floor I'll play them. One I really hate - "Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer".

  12. That song Loving You by Minnie something. Not the whole song, just that high pitched ah ah ah ah ah at the end! Except it was funny when Beverly D'Angelo sang it in National Lampoons Vegas Vacation!

    2. There is a Reba McEntire song...I have no idea what the name of it is, but there's a whole bunch of oooooooh oooooooooh oooooooohs in it. ACCCCK. Minnie Driver is annoying, Jeanette. I have quite a collection of most hated Christmas songs too.

  13. I kinda like that song, maybe because Benny and Joon was filmed in Spokane. I agree with despising anything Mariah Carey.

  14. I can't really think of anything that bugs me to the point that I would poke my eardrums out except metal in general - not a fan of those. But maybe I am just spoiled because I don't have to listen to anyone else's choices. I distantly recall having to listen to the radio at home when I was growing up because it was ALWAYS on and the walls of our house were thin.
