Today's topic: Is there one song you wish you could wipe off the face of the planet?
The above GIF probably spoiled my answer but if I never hear The Proclaimers (or anyone else for that matter) sing "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" ever again then I can be cool with that.
Someone shared this opinion about the song 7 years ago and I think it is still accurate to this day:
Another review of the song:
Scotland has given us many fine things (like golf, scotch, and Groundskeeper Willie), but that doesn’t excuse these twins for combining impenetrable dialect with a nasal whine. Worse than haggis
Do you agree?
Do you agree?
Or do you have a song that makes you want to stab your ears with knitting needles?
Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you tomorrow.
I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
The 1952 version of "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" by Jimmy Boyd.
ReplyDeleteVery specific, Kelly, but a good choice.
DeleteWhile I never liked the song these reviews had me howling! I had an ear worm of a country song from the 90s. Now mind you I don't listen to country. But they kept advertising it on TV and Radio that he was coming to town and that song played. then my husband would sing what he heard on TV just to drive me mad. Honestly it was horrendous - go ahead google it - you too can have this stuck in your head. "I got a thinkin' problem" with all the twang to make you want to poke out your ear drums. Yes, I'm a bitch.
ReplyDeleteI will take your word on it, Peg. I don't think I want that ear worm.
DeleteI absolutely hate "Santa Baby"; it will drive me right out of a store if I hear it playing. I don't like the Eagles much but "Hotel California" or "Lying Eyes" are my got-to-get-away songs. Most country music, especially twangy nasal stuff, is painful for me to listen to.
ReplyDeleteYou are like the Dude. He hates the Eagles too. It's a funny scene in "The Big Lebowski."
DeleteThat’s funny because that song doesn’t bother me at all. I’m with the previous commenters; most Xmas music annoys me (esp. Christmas Shoes, or whatever it’s called) and country music. An 80’s song I despise is Come On Eileen.
ReplyDeleteCome on Eileen is certainly annoying. No argument there, Bijoux.
DeleteThere are a few songs that when I'm in the car and they come on, my finger can't get to the buttons fast enough. But i can't think of the names of any, which is good. Otherwise they might pop into my head right now and I'd be mad at you! 😄
ReplyDeleteThank the fat bassets for unintended consequences, Mike.
DeleteI love that song! The one I loathe is "Stand By Your Man."
ReplyDeleteYou made a good choice, Debra. That song is super icky.
DeleteHey, I like that song! Probably because the only time I hear it is when I dust off my old Benny& Joon DVD.
ReplyDeleteI loathe everything by Mariah Carey. High pitched screeching, ugh!
Benny & Joon is the reason why Mrs. Shife likes it too, Deedles.
DeleteSo many songs I play at discos I hate but if I know they get people on the dance floor I'll play them. One I really hate - "Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer".
ReplyDeleteI am secretly a big fan of Bon Jovi and their crappy music. But I quit drinking so maybe that will change.
DeleteRicky Martin's Livin' La Vida Voca. And now I shall curse you for the rest of the day for putting that thought in my head after all these years!
ReplyDeletePlease forgive me, Ed.
DeleteThere are many that make me switch channels, turn things off, but the one you picked is right up there.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that we might be in the minority, Bob.
DeleteI cannot come up with any songs that drive me nuts. Songs that get stuck in my head when I hear them... that is a different story.
ReplyDeleteWell let us know if you remember, Bathwater.
DeleteThat song Loving You by Minnie something. Not the whole song, just that high pitched ah ah ah ah ah at the end! Except it was funny when Beverly D'Angelo sang it in National Lampoons Vegas Vacation!
ReplyDeleteI need to look that one up, Jeanette.
DeleteThere is a Reba McEntire song...I have no idea what the name of it is, but there's a whole bunch of oooooooh oooooooooh oooooooohs in it. ACCCCK. Minnie Driver is annoying, Jeanette. I have quite a collection of most hated Christmas songs too.
DeleteI kinda like that song, maybe because Benny and Joon was filmed in Spokane. I agree with despising anything Mariah Carey.
ReplyDeleteI can't really think of anything that bugs me to the point that I would poke my eardrums out except metal in general - not a fan of those. But maybe I am just spoiled because I don't have to listen to anyone else's choices. I distantly recall having to listen to the radio at home when I was growing up because it was ALWAYS on and the walls of our house were thin.
ReplyDeleteanything by Mariah Carry...arghghghgghghghgh
