In the last two weeks, we have had concert reveals for some big events in our area.
The Western Idaho Fair and the Boise Open (golf) both dropped the names of the acts that will be performing live for the masses.

We used to attend the fair on a regular basis when the kids were younger.
They absolutely loved that place.
Mrs. Shife and I felt quite the opposite about our experience.
Hot, crowded, and expensive are not huge selling points.
We are still on their mailing list so the email came in hot this morning:

Not a lot of excitement is generated when I see those names.

The Boise Open is near our house so we get free tickets every year to thank us for putting up with lots of foot traffic invading our neighborhood during the golf tournament.
Since we lived here, we have never had any problems.
We also have never attended any of their concerts because, even for the low, low price of free, the acts were not that appealing to the Shifleys.
This year is a little different as Mrs. Shife is a big fan of two of the groups.

Any guesses?
If you said JJ and Weezer, then give yourself a high-five.

Any upcoming concerts you are excited about seeing?

Take care, thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you tomorrow.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I could sit through Smash Mouth and the Spin Doctors if it was free. I'd LOVE to see Weezer!!!!
Would you believe we went to a concert last night? I will post about it later this week. We have two more shows coming up this year that we are very excited about.

    1. We used to go to the State Fair regularly for the same reasons you mentioned and stopped going for the same reasons you mentioned.

I haven't been to a concert in a long time, well at least not in person. I did sit through quite a number of free concerts streamed online during the pandemic, one of the few perks of that era in our lives. Mostly I don't go because I can't justify the price paid for a seat close enough I can see the singer's mouth move, when I have their music already, plenty of access to close up videos on YouTube and nobody sits in their seats at a concert. The only thing worse than paying a high price for a seat is not being able to use it.

    2. I don't even think I could do that one for free, Bijoux. Looking forward to hearing about your concerts.

    3. I am with you on all of those reasons, Ed. These reasons are why I pass on going to sporting events. I can stay at home with a better view, bathrooms, parking, company and snacks.

  2. Weezer would interest me but it would take a lot to get me to a concert. I did go to the Who a few months ago and it was great--but only because most of the crowd was 50s and 60s. :) John likes to go to the Puyallup Fair since he didn't grow up in Puyallup like me. I'm OK with it as long as we go during the weekday when it's not so crowded.

  3. It is going to take a lot to get me going especially since I will be sober, Margaret. Even when I was a teenager, I can only recall being sober at one concert.

  4. I've only heard of the musical acts on the free stage, LOL! Guess I'm a cheap date.

  5. I've never been to a concert. I don't like crowds or standing for too long. I did like going to the fair back when I was a teen though.

    1. You made wise choices by skipping concerts then, Mary, because there are lots of people and lots of standing.

  7. I don't really like crowds or driving through traffic or finding a place to park. However, I will go if friends go and they drive (so I don't have to). But wow Weezer. Incidentally one of my undergrad friends had an older brother who was a roadie or something like that for Joan Jett!

  8. I've always loved Joan Jett. I'm feeling mighty old but the hassle and cost with concerts keep us away. Sometimes Tony will say, hey let's go see *whoever. Then I explain the logistics of the parking, walking, and trying to make room for a walker at the venue, he changes his mind.
