Some things I done did this week:

  • Attended my third sober curious meeting. I have always enjoyed drinking beer but lately, it feels like I have been enjoying it a little too much. There's a history of addiction in my family as well so I thought I should talk to someone about it. I did and I have come to the realization that I might be better off taking a break and seeing how I feel so that is what I am doing. It has been 18 days now and I feel pretty good. I am still not sure where this path is going to take me but I am just taking it one day at a time because that is what is working for me right now.
  • I have had a great many positives from not drinking like sleeping a lot better and not feeling shame/guilt for drinking too much but I have picked up quite the sweet tooth since I gave up the sauce. First, it was all of the leftover Halloween candy, then I switched to peanut butter M&Ms and now I am taking care of business with ice cream. I am hoping this is only temporary.

  • The amazing and wonderful Hayden turns 11 on Monday so we are in a mad scramble to get everything ready for her big day. We are feeling pretty good but she decided at the last minute she wanted a shark cake so I am not sure if that is going to come together but we will do our best. I realized after I typed that last sentence that it is probably not that normal for a soon-to-be-11-year-old to want a shark cake but she wants to be a marine biologist and rooted for Bruce the shark in "Jaws."
  • Realized a properly motivated basset hound doesn't give a rat's furry little butt if I yell "Come" in different tones, styles, or languages so we are going to have to take her training up a notch for her safety and my sanity.

  • Watching "The Middle" with the family before we call it a day. It is a show we all enjoy, which is hard to find these days, so I am grateful for that time with the family. Plus it is quite funny and relatable to the stage of life I am currently in right now.

Lucrizzle update

I was going to try and reimagine the lyrics to "Hold on Loosely" by .38 Special with "Hold on Lucely" but I need to workshop that idea. As I mentioned above, Lucy is getting a little carried away with being a free-range dog so I need to work with her on that. Ms. Frizzle is still a furry angel and tolerates the low rider.

Thanksgiving update

I hope whatever you do on turkey day that it is a good one. I will most likely not update since my schedule falls on Thanksgiving and we are hosting family and friends this year. So gobble gobble and talk to you in two weeks.

Thanks for stopping by, hope all is well in your part of the world and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I’m also trying to cut back on the drinking, thanks to various health issues. The beer is too many carbs. Happy Birthday to Hayden! I’d think a shark cake is popular right now, thanks to that whole Baby Shark song thing. Have a great turkey day!

  3. Good on you for the self-care, a lot of folks might not be so self-aware, though now comes the sweet tooth.
The doggies look adorable sleeping together.
Happy Happy Hayden Day! Sharks and all!

  4. Happy Birthday to the birthday girl! You are smart to try to prevent problems instead of doing what many folks do, which is to wait until it's a catastrophe. Remember it takes awhile to get new habits started; give yourself the grace you'd give others. Love the memes, sorry I've been MIA for awhile. I think I'm back now :) Have a great Thanksgiving, Mr. S and family, furry and otherwise.

  6. I'm glad that you're taking care of yourself and feel good about it, both physically and mentally. Those forwarding things are very annoying. I never do them but being superstitious, I worry a little afterward. Happy Birthday to Hayden--what a lovely young lady she's becoming. So grown up!

  8. I hope you are successful with your goal. Perhaps someday they will find the gene that makes some people susceptible and others like me immune. Early this spring, my class held it's 30th reunion at my house. I bought a 12 pack of beer for the occasion. (50% of the class showed up for a total of four, including me.) None of the other three were interested in a beer. The case still sits in our pantry 8 months later with 11 beers. My wife drank one of them somewhere along the line. I've been meaning to pour the rest down the drain as they are probably getting skunky.

    1. Thanks, Ed. I hope so too because I definitely feel like I fall into the category of "one is too many and a thousand is not enough." I thought my wife I had a small graduating class but you have her beat.

  9. I hardly ever drink beer/wine/cocktails, but that’s because my Romeo doesn’t drink and it sort of takes the fun out of getting that buzz on. Good for you in thinking maybe it’s a little too much fun and cutting back. I do love peanut M&M’s though.
Hayden is such an adorable kid!

  10. Hayden is one bad ass little girl. I love it! Cute as a button too!
I wish you the best of success in your alcohol journey!!
As for sweet tooth, I found and made a 3 ingredient fudge last night. OMG too darn easy. Peanut butter/chocolate fudge. Dangerous but so easy. Now there are all these nice pieces of fudge in my fridge and I hear the little bastards calling my name.

  13. I wish you well as you cut back on your drinking. I very seldom have more than one drink a night, but lately decided that does cut into your sleep if done too late, so if I have a drink now, I try to do it before 6 PM. I don't drink beer much, except in summer. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  15. Ohhh great idea about quitting beer for awhile.
I think beer is way too better for my taste, but people like it, obvs. And getting into eating is quite usual with people who cut on something. I recommend putting down the chocolate and grabbing some fruits. Not as rewarding but better for the waistline.
I LOVE that she's decided for a shark cake! Yay! I also think it's fantastic you guys are going to be able to provide said cake!!
    Have a great Turkey Day!!

    XOXO

  17. Most of my family are/were really bad alcoholics. I tried a few drinks when I was of age and just never cared for them so I don't drink at all. Nope, my addiction is food and sweets. Probably why I am overweight. lol Now with diabetes I have to cut out most sweets and that's been hard. Cutting anything out that you like it hard so I wish you luck with however you want to go with that. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.
