Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, I have been busy eating bowls of alphabet soup and pooping out smarter statements that whatever I am hearing on political debates.
Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, I have been busy eating bowls of alphabet soup and pooping out smarter statements that whatever I just heard on cable news.
OK. Now it's fixed.
Sorry about that.
Like I mentioned, I have been busy.
1) A rare weather phenomenon known as heat burst dropped a massive tree branch in our yard and our neighbor's. Minimal damage but the branch crushed the internet cable and they can't get out to fix it until mid-July so we have been 12 days without the world wide web.
It's hard to tell but there's a trailer in there somewhere that is full of leaves, branches and logs.
We had to make two trips to a landscape recycling center before we were finished.
2) Broken water pipe underneath the house.
3) New countertops and flooring in the house. We have a home that was built in 1959. Whenever we schedule work we always laugh when the contractor tells us it shouldn't take long because it never goes as smoothly as scheduled because it is an older home. A project that was supposed to take 3 days got stretched out over 2 weeks and it is still not finished yet.
4) My dad got COVID again.
5) In the grand scheme of things - especially with all that is going on in the world - these items are a piece of cake compared to some other things I have dealt with in the past but my current predicaments just seem harder because I was dealing with some depression (anniversary of my mother's death was July 1) and all of these events seemed to kick it into high gear.
6) I wrote most of these updates earlier this week but things are looking up today. The remodel is done, the internet is back, my dad is on the mend and the other issues have been resolved.
June challenge update
I completed the June Challenge of daily push-ups by cranking out 100 on the last day.
Yay me!
July challenge
Random acts of kindness.
I am trying to be more aware of my surroundings and lending a helping hand or courtesy when I can. For example, holding open a door, picking up trash, a friendlier driver, etc.

It has been 121 days since I had a candy bar.

Reacher - Season 1
The Boys - Season 3
Kids in the Hall - Revival season
Better Call Saul - Season 6
The Old Man - Season 1
Only Murders in the Building - Season 1
The Bear - Season 1
For All Mankind - Season 3
Meme dump
Thanks for stopping by, hope your week is going well and I will talk to you soon.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
Oh my. That sounds like a lot of crap happening at once. How freaked out were your kids with no internet? Mine always acted as though it was the end of the world. I hope your dad is recovering and that the pipe issue is not something that clears your checking account.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, our neighbors like us so the kids were able to use their Internet for streaming and gaming but it was a long 2 weeks.
DeleteThe Boys season three is not as consistent as the previous two seasons, but it is still worth watching.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteI had a 100 foot cherry tree come down and take out... oh, about 100 feet of fencing once. I feel your pain. I hope you bought your chainsaw at Home Depot. 😎😎😎
ReplyDeleteDo I get an employee discount?
DeleteThe Ducks one--oh, yes! :) John and I liked Reacher; it was very true to the book. Your list of issues stressed me out. A tree falling! Leaky pipe! No WWW! I'm glad that things are getting resolved, that your dad is better and that you're back.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret.
DeleteIt has been 121 minutes for me.
ReplyDeleteHow about now?
DeleteI loved Kids in the Hall--the old school one. Is the revival as good? I also love Only Murders in the Building. I heard a lot of good things about The Boys.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched all of the revival but liked what I saw.
DeleteReacher and The Boys are great shows!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of your challenges. And doing pushups every day? Fun and you'll look awesome by the end of the year!
The Single Black Female one made me cackle.
XOXO
I just need to remember to do the pushups.
DeleteI'm glad there were improvements in all those situations by the time you posted. Sometimes life just gets overwhelming and it's always a relief when that starts to wane. I understand what you mean about those anniversaries. The pain is always there under the scar. Take care of yourself, eh?
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the great big smile at the singles ad :D
You are welcome and thank you. jenny_o. All is well... mostly. :D
DeleteTwo weeks without internet, I'm not sure my kids could survive no internet. I'm not sure I could survive two kids with no access to internet.
ReplyDeleteThe Boys has a third season? How did I miss that. I already watched Reacher and right now are on the Old Man and Better Call Saul wagon.
It wasn't pleasant, Ed. Can you believe we used to live like this?
DeleteWow, a few early summer challenges. Any type of work scheduled is never done on time...never. Even when we do it ourselves, haha. I am sorry to hear your Dad had Covid again. I just had it for the first time, and did not really enjoy the experience.
ReplyDeleteLove the memes! A chuckle, a smile, or a hearty belly laugh is always welcome!
Glad you stopped by and thank you.
DeleteI've never heard of a Heat Burst before; interesting but messy. Hope you show us your updated kitchen. I have ideas for ours but maybe next year.
ReplyDeletePictures will be forthcoming, kden, but something else showed up this week.
DeleteI've been looking for a new Netflix. Call Saul sounds good to me. You have had a bad month and still came shooting out the end with the push ups. That's a major win! Good for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne. Hope you like Saul.
DeleteWow that is a crappy list going on. I hope things are doing far better and running smoothly now. We're watching The Old Man too. "The Dude" is pretty damn good in this. It's been 24 hrs since I had a candy bar. But it was a gift, does that count? I didn't buy it. Oh who cares, a peppermint patty was devoured. You have more strength that me.😁
ReplyDeleteGifts don't count so you are good, Peggy.
DeleteWow, that's a lot to deal with. I hope they come out to fix the cable sooner rather than later. Being without is a pain. I hope things get fixed soon. I've never heard of a heat burst before. I've heard of a microburst but those are different things.
ReplyDeleteAll was well but then we met Rocky.
DeleteAhhh, Mr. Shife, sometimes I wish I'd make myself go at least that long without the World Wide Webs...
ReplyDeleteHey balanced. Good to hear from you again.
DeleteI quit watching the old man when they killed the dogs..fuckers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on that! I was losing interest in it anyway so now I have a good reason to stop watching!
DeleteNot cool. Those dogs were the best.
DeleteMs. Frizzle is one stylish pooch.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of a heat burst and now I'm terrified of it.
I may try that alphabet soup thing for a blog post. Might be more interesting than other stuff.,
It was the first time I heard of it as well. Don't recommend.
DeleteOnly Murders is good fun. No. 4 certainly is no fun. May your Dad be on the mend!
ReplyDeleteHow's life without internet? I think I'd feel a bit out of sorts without Mr. Google.
Da Googs is back and as strong as ever.
