Hello May

Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, world-famous blogger and sex symbol.
Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, world-famous blogger and sex symbol.
OK. Now it's fixed.
Sorry about that.
Sometimes I get my blogging audiences confused.
Can you believe it is already the fifth month of the year?
May is not quite as hectic as March or April for us but we are still busy.
No birthdays but we do have Mothers Day.
And, before I forgot, I wish a happy day to all you amazing ladies out there that take care of us.
Kyle is still doing track, Hayden and I are still playing softball and since Mrs. Shife is the PTO president, she is putting together an end-of-school-year celebration.
Yep, three more weeks and the kiddos wrap up another school year.
Then, it is the unofficial official beginning of summer with Memorial Day weekend.

May Challenge

In an effort to sleep better, I am putting the phone away and reading a book before I go to bed.
I went to Google to help me out by searching "the best books to read even if you hate reading."
Here's my stash and I started the month by tackling "The Premonition" by Michael Lewis.
I am 5 chapters in and still going strong.

May Collar

Here is Ms. Frizzle's collar for the month:

Sweet tooth

It has been 51 days since I had a candy bar.

What I am watching?

Since I am reading more and watching less this month, this is what I have on my streaming to-do list:

Psych - Season 5 - Kyle and I are watching this
Halo - Season 1 - Kyle and I are watching this
This Is Us - Season 6
Better Call Saul - Season 6
Barry - Season 3
Atlanta - Season 1

Meme dump

Thanks for stopping by, talk to you soon and happy Cinco de Mayo, amigos.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  3. Ah, that makes sense. Screens are supposed to interfere with getting to sleep although I read on my phone, so that's not a good thing. How does one comfortably read a book in bed? Never found a way. "The Art of Racing in the Rain" just about did me in emotionally but I loved it anyway. We read "A Man Called Ove" in Book Club; I liked it less than many people but I can't remember why. May is a very busy month around here with many birthdays.

    1. I only read about 30 minutes so it's not too bad, Margaret. I make a huge pillow fort that keeps me mostly satisfied.

  4. I also have given up my phone and tablet before bed and am reading real books. I also added CBD at night. I do sleep much better. I hope it lasts! Love the memes!

  5. May, after the hellish school activity period known as April, seems like a cake walk.

I have the opposite problem. I sometimes stop reading books before bedtime because I'll spend all night dreaming about the plot lines. Let me know how the Nick Offerman book is.

Just finished up the final season of Ozark. I certainly hope the finale of Better Call Saul isn't similar because Ozark was kind of a disappointment.

  7. I hope Mrs. Shife has a wonderful Mother's Day! She is blessed with a very special family. If you find the right book it should be easy to read because you won't want to put it down. Congratulations for taking this step to help your sleep! I need to do the same. Ms. Frizzle's collar is great. I love that she has a new one each month. Have a great week!

  8. I loved the memes - thank you. I admire your determination to try new things for self-improvement. I need some of that motivation. I hope you enjoy at least one of those books and get some ideas for where your reading enjoyment will come from. Enjoy May; it's nice to have some less-hectic time now and then. Ms. Frizzle's collar looks very nice on her. I hope she has her own closet to hang her fashion accessories in. Well, maybe just her own hook. Happy Mother's Day to Mrs. Shife!

    1. Thank you, jenny_o. Ms. Frizzle has her own cabinet for all of her things. She might be a little spoiled but I think that is OK because she deserves it.

  10. May is my birthday month and therefore a GREAT month. I give Mrs. Shife big kudos for PTO Prez. That must be exhausting. I’ve read two of your books…. Rain (I think you’ll love) and Ove, which most people love, except for me and Margaret above!

  13. I love that you're going to your public library to get the books! Totally same. And reading a book is soooo good before bed! And I mean a physical book. There's something about the turning of the pages...
And I am totally into Atlanta. People keep talking to me about Barry, so I may check it out.
And that meme of David Rose? That's literally me. I guess I'm a cat.

    XOXO

  14. End of the year celebration...go Mrs. Shife. Having been super involved in PTO back in the day in a variety of offices.........lots of work. Bet the kids are anxious for the end of the year and summer time activities. I don't tend to use the phone before bed, it's the boob tube for us for an hour or so after dinner. My reading isn't really reading, it's listening. I've gotten so hooked on audio books, I've not read a book in ages. Hope it helps you. Even when I was reading, it was on my ipad or Kindle, much prefer that over a book book. But that doesn't help if you're trying to get away from screen time. The May collar is so colorful! Congrats on the 51 days. I can go without candy easily; wine...not so much. We all have our "thing". The only show on your list I've heard of is Call Saul. We're watching the newest season of The Ozarks......whew, such people!! Some good meme's.

Thanks. Sandy. Let me know what you think of the last season of Ozark and Saul has been really good so far. The kids are definitely for school to be over and as well as Mrs. Shife so she can take a break from PTO.

Yay! for you not having a candy bar in some time. I just cut back (again) on the sugar intake as the jeans are fitting a bit too tightly these days.

Hope Mrs. Shife had a lovely Mother's Day!
