After my softball season ended in October, I had my come to Weight Watchers moment.
I stepped on the scale and was shocked to see how much weight I added.
Mostly around my gut thanks to an uptake in my beer drinking.
Instead of getting serious about it, I went into denial and doubled down through November.
Guess what else doubled during that time frame?
In December, I decided to take action and cut back on beers until I started my holiday break.
I felt pretty good after 3 weeks of no barley pops and I lost almost 14 pounds.
But once my break began and I starting drinking beers again, I had another epiphany.
I learned that an increase in gluten - which is a big ingredient in beer - leads to undesirable side effects for yours truly like bloating, the cha cha chas, and inflammation in areas that already hurt like my shoulder and heels.
And the weight I lost found its way home rather quickly.
I decided I am only going to enjoy beers periodically and my new drink of choice will be bourbon.
If I have a bourbon - and I am currently drinking it neat - it will last me about 3-4 hours.
It has helped me keep the weight off and my body feels better.
So my spirits are high and I now consider myself something of a bourbon legend.
Sorry.
I was telling a nice story and I had to ruin it with some bad puns.
Coming up with original content can be whiskey business.
Rock on
By the buck knuckle of George Constanza, which rock is your favorite?
- Classic
- Ingenous
- Punk
- Modern
- Yacht
- Metamorphic
- Butt
- Soft
- Southern
- Indie
- Dwayne Johnson
- Sedimentary
- Hard
Depending on my mood, I would go with Southern, hard and butt.
Southern hard butt?
Almost sounds like a date request.
"I am looking for someone with a Southern hard butt."
What are you watching?
During the Christmas break, we got a bunch of snow and a bunch of cold so we didn't venture out much. This allowed me to catch up on some TV shows and, by the looks of the list below, it would appear that is all I did during my time away.
Chuck - Season 3 - Kyle and I are watching this
Modern Family - Season 5 - Hayden and I are watching this
Station Eleven - Season 1
Cobra Kai - Season 4
Letterkenney - Season 10
The Expanse - Season 6
1883 - Season 1
Yellowstone - Season 4
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Season 15
This Is Us - Season 6
The Righteous Gemstones - Season 2
My friends swear by Titos and water. I just don't drink. My favorite music is Alternative.
ReplyDeleteI am big fan of alternative.
DeleteEverything in moderation! While bourbon has no carbs and gluten, it does have the calories.
ReplyDeleteModeration is very important.
DeleteI drink rarely but beer is my favorite. However, I eat ice cream too frequently. It sounds like you've found a winning combo! I would like to see some of those shows. Which ones do you recommend the highest?
ReplyDeleteI hope it turns out to be a good combo for me. I need more details before I can give you a recommendation? What is your favorite genre? Lots of dark humor in a few of those shows, some Westerns in there and sci-fi as well.
DeleteI so wish I could blame my keg on beer. *Sigh* Bourbon legend! I'm a bit slow on the uptake these days, but once I got it, I laughed my front butt off! Cheery Hoes killed me! I'm torn between Dwayne Johnson and Classic rock.
ReplyDeleteYou can have both, Deedles, and I am glad you liked my silly humor. Good hearing from you.
DeleteWow on the quick weight loss in three weeks! My fave music is alternative, or New Wave, as we called it back in the day. The only show I’ve watched on your list is Modern Family, all seasons. Very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteMy metabolism is bonkers, Bijoux. I screwed it up real bad from wrestling and all of the drastic weight loss/gains I would go through during the season.
DeleteIt's a good thing I'm not too crazy about beer because I have enough weight issues without it. I have though, a few months ago, totally cut out snacking. Now if I could get back out walking, it would help even more.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, kden.
DeleteI gave up beer a long time ago, now I'm a happy wino. Alternative music is good, though I've been listening to La Guitarra playlist on Amazon a lot while writing the latest book. I like The Expanse.
ReplyDeleteA wino who likes The Expanse. I like you even more.
DeleteCan I be Classic Modern Indie rock??? Please.
ReplyDeleteI like a beer now and again, but I am mostly wine and every so often tequila concoction!
My Dad got me hooked on Yellowstone; loving it!
You can be whatever you want, Bob.
DeleteYou never fail to make me laugh - I've sure missed you!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha. I have missed you too. Welcome back.
DeleteI think I'll try some of the 'Fifty Shades of Grain'.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how it turns out.
DeleteI would go with Classic Rock and a little Sedimentary on the side. Love the Memes!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices, Bonnie.
DeleteThis one really hit the buttons Mr. Shife. Welcome to the bourbon world! I take mine with a large rubber molded round ball of ice so it keeps things icy cold with little meltage. I'm a classic southern sedimentary. I've been watching Yellowstone but am waiting on 1883 so I can sign up and binge watch before cancelling. Your memes are especially spot on!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Ed. More things we have in common.
DeleteOhhh Beer can be BAD for the midsection.
ReplyDeleteBourbon sounds like a good choice, though. Also, I had no idea what the cha cha chas were. I cackled for ten minutes.
And I loooove 'classic rock'. Especially the late sixties, the seventies and some from the eighties. And Dwayne Johnson on the side, please.
XOXO
You should watch
You forgot to tell me what I should watch, Sixpence.
DeleteI have been basically gluten free for almost two weeks (12 days) and I swear things feel better. But didn't really think about it, until you talked about it here.
ReplyDeleteIt makes a noticeable difference.
DeleteI have little to add, except Classic Rock. And skip the alcohol altogether. Calories, over and out.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanne.
DeleteAny woman out there would love to give up just one item and lose 14 pounds, haha. Enjoy your neat bourbon!
ReplyDeleteI might become a diet guru.
DeleteHubby and I enjoy cocktail hour, my Dad used to call it period of adjustment. We sit with tv off, sometimes music playing and enjoying sipping and talking. I make a very good Old Fashion, Manhattan, and Martini. He prefers Gin, while I prefer Vodka. We both like Rye for our Old Fashions and either Rye or Bourbon for Manhattan's. I like my Martini glasses in the freezer so things are really good and cold, he prefers his glass for a Manhattan room temperature. As you can see, I'm an equal opportunity Bar Keeper, lol. Swing by, cocktails will be about 6:30 tonight. Since we're having steaks on the grill, we'll both be drinking Martini's tonight.
ReplyDeleteI might have to stop by one night, Sandy. Sounds wonderful.
Deletedrank once in 25 years..was not a good feeling the next morning.I thought I was going to die. seriously..going to die.
ReplyDeleteI love Yellowstone sooo much and 1883 is wonderful.
I finished the new last season of Dexter and I'm still pissed. Worse ending than the one 8 years ago. Watched last season of Expanse which was a perfect ending.
This is us is going to break my heart when it is over..sigh*
I wasn't interested enough in Righteous Gems to start this season. thanks to my kodi app I can watch a lot of obscure tv shows in Icelandic, Norwegian, Danish and Swiss.
This Is Us is going to be a tearjerker for sure and I am really enjoying 1883. I will have to look into the kodi app. TY, YDG.
DeleteI really like Cobra Kai. Such a good show.
ReplyDeleteI don't drink alcohol. I drink a lot of tea though.
It is such a trip down memory lane.
DeleteCheery Ho's Cereal, that made me Smile. If I drank during Pandemic I'd be a raging Alcoholic I think and totally out of Control. Right now I do feel like I have Corona Extra since I finally couldn't outrun COVID and after over Two Years it finally caught me and now I have COVID plus COVID Pneumonia, thus "Corona Extra", but then, I've always been 'Extra'. While is voluntary Quarantine for Two Weeks now, feeling so Sick and having a Houseful of Teen, Young Adult Men and a Disabled Old Geezer, I may resort to drinking, you just never know what will finally send you over the Edge? *winks*
ReplyDeleteWe just got tested and are waiting for the results, Bohemian.
DeleteThe one stiff drink to last all night is something I have tried too. Didn't work for me. I'll just pour another. And another. Keeping the weight off is tough in our 40's. Exercise and cutting back on drinking are good, but then when I don't drink I crave bad food, believing I am somehow owed eating crappy because I'm not drinking. But enough about me, let's talk about how The Shife is still holding it down up in here over the years with consistent content. Strong.
ReplyDeleteThe struggle is real bu I am doing my best, Dr. Ken. The Bulls not sucking is helping out too.
