Sorry I didn't provide additional details about my shed cleaning Saturday.
After I formatted the playlist to make it blog worthy, I was just ready to hit publish and come back to fight another day.
Well, today is that day.
I spent about 6 hours cleaning out the shed.
I also had to make a few trips to a local place to donate a bunch of stuff because there was a lot of stuff in that shed.

According to my phone, I had almost 14,000 steps which is more than 5 miles.
It was a long day but the weather was nice and I had lots of music to keep me on task.
Let's talk about the music.
Most of the songs are from artists you would consider alt-country.
Except for Seether and The Pretty Reckless.
They are more hard rock.
I think the best way to describe alt-country is a combo of George Strait and the Kings of Leon.

This is Whiskey Myers. They are considered alt-country.
Please note they are wearing shirts with sleeves. This will make more sense in a moment.
I don't know if that helps but it makes perfect sense to me.
It's country music but they incorporate influences from such genres as rock, folk music, blues and punk.
They aren't mainstream, they are more original and they usually wear sleeves on their shirts.

To each their own, I am old and I like what I like and most of the country music I hear these days sounds like hot garbage.
My musical tastes started when I was a little dude as I would listen to Casey Kasem's top 40 show and see what perked up my ear buds.
In junior high, I started listening to metal then by the time high school rolled around I was into hair metal.
In the military, I discovered bands like The Replacements and went down the alternative music rabbit hole until I went to college and got into the grunge scene with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Post college has been a little bit of this and that but my favorite bands from the past few years have been Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Gaslight Anthem and Whiskey Myers.
These guys are definitely not mainstream but at their core they are a rock-n-roll band with different influences and that is what makes me happy.

Hope that helps.
Enjoy your Sunday.
If you just scrolled to the bottom because this post is rather long, the big takeaway is that I like bands that wear shirt sleeves.
I will try and do better tomorrow.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.
The Replacements are one of my all-time favorite bands. So underrated.
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with them from the very first moment I heard them, Bob.
Deleteyou have answered both my comments from your previous post; thanks. good for you for donating stuff. disco music is my first love, plus dance and R&B.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, anne marie in philly. I always enjoy your music picks on your blog. You have great taste.
DeleteKudos on your music picks! It’s good to get stuff done. It amazes me how much extra stuff gathers as one trips thru life. Especially with kids.
DeleteThanks, silly rabbit.
DeleteThanks for the info on the music. It seems like country music has gone through a lot of changes over the years. When I was a kid (remember that was the dark ages) country music was that twangy stuff and I couldn't stand it. I've never been a big country music fan as I prefer classic rock but some of the newer country sounds almost rock to me. It's always good to check out different music because you never know what jewel you may find!
ReplyDeleteGlad to help out, Bonnie.
DeleteAfter I got married, my furniture kind of gravitated out to the garage, then out to the storage shed and ultimately disappeared. It was so gradual I hardly noticed until it was gone. Perhaps the roles are reversed in your marriage.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, Ed, you might be right.
DeleteFavorite bands are, of course, the two
ReplyDeleteEldest started in our house. :-)
No argument with that.
DeleteConsidering I had no idea alt country existed . . .
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome?
DeleteMy shed is essentially empty. Bag of topsoil with ants, that's all.
ReplyDeleteI know a guy who has some stuff if you need some stuff, Joanne.
DeleteJoanne's shed and Mr. Shife's shed? Two different sheds. I had no clue about alt country either. You are ever educational.
ReplyDeleteI am doing my best, Debby.
DeleteOhhh cleaning a shed is indeed a task of titans!
ReplyDeleteGlad you did your part (and donated stuff! yay!)
I, too, used to listen to Casey Kasem for YEARS. It was so much fun. I love Nirvana. I like the rock bands from the sixties and seventies too.
Country music has what I call cleaned-up rough trade. And I Whiskey Myers is a great name.
XOXO
Hearing Nirvana for the first time felt like a spiritual moment for me, Sixpence. I will never forget it.
DeleteI'm a gal who loved her rock 'n roll. Then the 80s came & there were my hair bands. But then it began to dwindle away. Where was rock going? So I listened to some country, travis tritt, garth, martina, wynonna. Then it began to get too boy band for me. (luke bryan and insert any name I don't know them but they all look and sound the same.) all the country sounded the same. Until Chris Stapleton. I miss rock. I'm old and I don't get rap. Growing up listening to 38special, molly hatchet and Eagles and Lynrd Skynrd I think they would all be on country music stations now. In the meantime as I look for new music I must check out Whiskey Myers as I listen to AC/DC. I've got to, that name is great!
ReplyDeleteYou are probably right about those groups being on country music stations, Peg. Hope you give Whiskey Myers a listen.
DeleteCasey Kasem is still on in reruns(?)--whatever it is on the radio when they re-play something. I used to listen all the time and breathlessly wait for the number one song. I've never heard of alt-country and didn't know about the shirtsleeves! (or lack thereof) My shed and garage need cleaning out. I'm not terribly motivated since there is no heat out there.
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine and temps in the 40s definitely helped, Margaret.
DeleteI need to clean and purge. My partner use to remind me that I am a true hoarder. He laughed, although I know he was aggravated, as he was not a hoarder.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, JM. It will feel much better when it is all cleaned up.
