Murray mention
For being the official unofficial blog of Bill Murray, I am not doing a good job of promoting the man. Here's a quote from him that I ran across and it made me laugh again:If I'm ever on life support, unplug me.
Then plug me back in and see if that works. - Bill Murray
No Friday blog
You thought I was kidding about the crazy class schedules for Kyle and Hayden?Well here is how it shakes out this week: no school yesterday, virtual today, in-person tomorrow, and then no school on Thursday and Friday.
The Shifleys are going to take advantage of the no-school days and try to create some memories so I will return to the blogosphere next Tuesday.
Be strong. I will be back before you know it.
Halloween plans
Since Halloween is definitely going to be different this year, Mrs. Shife talked me into hosting a murder mystery party with our quarantine crew.
I am going to be Professor Peacock.
I am going to be Professor Peacock.
Any costume suggestions from my wonderful blogging friends?
Here is what I wore the last time we hosted a murder mystery party.

My favorite logging off video this week.
I have a co-worker who is leaving and he's a big Star Wars so I thought he would like this one.

Something to think about
Remember, this has all happened before, and it was a lot worse the last time around.
We all got so used to happy endings that we forgot things can and do fall apart.
If you dig up the history of pandemics, you'll see it all there.
The distrust, the frenzied conspiracy theories, the mind-boggling ineptitude of leaders, the protests, the doctors' pleas falling on deaf ears, the exhausted nurses, the shamelessness of the powerful who know only how to divide.

It's all happened before.
Our great grandparents, and their great grandparents before them, they had to deal with invisible killers and fearmongering and frustration too.
Just like now, their pandemics were brutally unfair, falling hardest on the most vulnerable parts of society. They showed that when people are scared, they're capable of both extraordinary kindness and the most mindless stupidity, and often in quick succession.
Human nature doesn't change.
What does change is the science.
They didn't have that the last time around.
A gentle reminder that the reality TV show sucks, and that you're a human being, not a helpless pawn at the mercy of the algorithms.
Turn them off if you want to.
Real life is heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary, and breathtakingly beautiful.
Give it a go.

See you next week.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.
Hope your couple of days off will be relaxing.
ReplyDeleteThe logging off always cracks me up, although I don't understand the concept... what is this logging off you speak of? I seem to have my face in front of a screen about 90% of the time that I'm awake. :-D
Thanks, Ami. Yes, the logging off has evolved into the log just doing stuff. I am trying to keep it up until the end of the month. Take care.
ReplyDeleteIt's all happened before ... great quote, something we all need to remember.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your days off and thanks for the smiling log, that made my night!
Glad you liked your namesake's latest video, Bob.
DeleteYou have to love Bill Murray!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your family weekend! I'm so happy for you all that you can do that.
The Halloween murder mystery party sounds like a blast! Someone could always come as a "cereal killer" dressed as a cereal box with plastic knives stuck in it.
I like your cereal idea, Bonnie.
DeleteYes the science does change. Now we can see pictures of those little round suckers that are trying to kill us.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, sir.
DeleteYour log videos are improving. :D
ReplyDelete"the mind-boggling ineptitude of leaders". Ain't that the truth.
Enjoy your break!
Thank you, Joey.
DeleteThe kid's schedule is CRAZY.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you guys are managing. Creating a semblance of routine should be a full-time job. We've been through this before, but not with an absolutely useless administration that lies to the public out of self-interest.
And you could add some Mr. Roger's to Professor Peacock or invert the color scheme of your clothes this year. I'd also suggest a mustache.
XOXO
P.S. I looked for the guy in Idaho and found the video! So cool! Now every time I hear Dreams I'm gonna think about Ocean Spray and longboards!!!
Awesome, Sixpence. The Idaho Dreams connection is pretty cool.
Deletehow about a graduation hat with a peacock feather and a black robe? and a pair of glasses.
ReplyDeleteenjoy your family time.
and just for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fQGPZTECYs
Thanks for the suggestion and the video link, anne marie in philly. I forgot about that Ren and Stimpy classic.
DeleteGood message at the end. Yes, this happened not that long ago (my grandfather almost succumbed to the Spanish flu after returning from WW1) and yes, people behaved the same way. Ironically, it’s comforting to know that it’s not just our generation that’s nuts.
ReplyDeleteIt is comforting but still sad that we haven't evolved that much in 100 years.
DeleteEnjoy your weekend adventure!!
ReplyDeleteWe are supposed to get our first
freeze. xoxo :-)
Thank you, AK!!
DeleteIs that a pretty little Hayden in the background of your picture?
ReplyDeleteYes, it has been worse. My great grandmother died in the influenza epidemic, leaving my 16 year old grandmother to run the boarding house. If we keep our wits, we will be fine.
Good eye, Joanne, but it is my niece from about 12 years ago when she was the same age as Hayden.
DeleteOooh, I like Anna Marie's suggestion for your costume! Or maybe something in the line of Harry Potter.... We just got back in town from our trip, and noticed lots of families. I guess they are dealing with the same schooling issues that your family is and decided for an outdoor classroom. Approved!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good trip and thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteWow...lots of food for thought!! Stay well, keep your kids safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JM.
DeleteHave I told you lately that I love you? well..I do..
ReplyDeleteNope. =)
DeleteThanks, Jackiesue.
Sometimes, real life is more sad than happy, more awful than awesome....
ReplyDeleteGreat quote from Bill Murray
Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks, Tanza
DeleteThat's a great idea to have a murder mystery party with your family; you're such fun parents. Love that quote too. Our ancestors went through so much heartache with plagues, flus and pandemics. Hopefully in a short time things will turn around (Go Joe!)
ReplyDeleteI hope things get turned around soon too, kden.
DeleteI needed to read those words today. This too shall pass. We've not only got covid though, we've got a madman in the White House, surrounded by people who want to keep him there. Argggggggggh....
ReplyDeleteI like the graduation robe idea and with an honor stole of shimmery peacock colors!
I think we are all going to need those words this week, Debby.
