This is Your Life, Mr. Shife

I have never, ever thought of myself as a sexy man.
But that all changed yesterday.

Remember that sleep study I did a few weeks ago?
Well, I got the results back and I need to wear that thing at night.
I feel like I am on an episode of the Teletubbies

or I am going to a Halloween party dressed as my favorite appliance:

We all know that Halloween party wouldn't suck!!

Ha. You see what I did there.
Yep, this is my life for the next 4-6 weeks.
Then they will evaluate the results and let me know.
The first night didn't go so well as I woke up in the middle of the night and it felt like a gnome was sitting on my face and blasting a leaf blower up both of my nostrils.
Turns out there isn't a lot of GIFs when you type in "gnome holding leaf blower" so I went with Jackie Chan doing a terrible re-enactment of me trying to sleep last night:

Sweet dreams, blogging buddies.
I am hoping the second night goes better.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. Good luck with it. Actually you look a little like my husband as he has slept with one for years. When my grandson was little and spent the night he said it made Granddaddy sound like Darth Vader. You will get used to it after a few nights. I hope so anyway!

  3. You're doing a sleep study? Cool!
The contraption does not look comfy, though. I think someone who had sleep apnea once told me they needed something similar...
The Jackie Chan gif is everything, though...
    Good luck!

    XOXO

  4. Those things look like a nightmare to have to sleep in. Do they use distilled water? When the pandemic started, I couldn’t find distilled water for my iron anywhere and someone online claimed all the cpap people were hoarding it.

    1. Yes, it needs distilled water so the online source could be right. The doctor told me I could boil water and use that after it has cooled down. I might try the distilled to see if it works better but I am in no hurry to visit the grocery stores.

  5. I hope you're not stuck with that forever. I know it would be hard to sleep with, but if it makes things better for you, it'll be worth it.

  6. Oh my goodness. I don't know how folks sleep with these, how does one lay on their side? Sexy as hell Mr. Shife, i'm sure Mrs. Shife can't get enough of this look. :-)

    1. Ha. I can't keep her off of me. =)
She is just happy that the snoring has subsided.
The reason the tube is on top of my head is because it is designed for a side sleeper like myself.

  8. May you be able to sleep well wearing the 'head gear'. It almost looks like you'll be deep sea diving into your REM stage of slumber...

  10. Those C-Paps are a great invention for men who snore, and women, too. Some time ago my sister asked me if she snored, as her husband didn't know. (Go figure.) I could assure her, from all the years we lived together and she fell asleep at the six o'clock news and woke up to go to bed that "yes," she snored. She's had a C-Pap for a year or so, and is a new, happier person. Their power went out recently, and she woke up because the machine quit working. My greatest horror is that, and I asked her. She said no, you don't strangle and die. You just wake up because the machine quit and it's like the "old days." So she got up, called the electric company and reported the outage.

  11. I read this with a feeling of guilt because I sleep like a log. Wasn't always the case, though, I remember non-sleep nights from long ago. Therapy wasn't available in thos e days. If it's any consolation, it all rights itself in due course.

  12. How the hell do you sleep at all with that thing on! Good luck!

  13. If it helps you feel better, it's all worth it. Nothing is more important than health, and sleep apnea can steal your health away. And for what it's worth, having a partner who takes care of their health is a pretty attractive quality in a person. Good luck, hope the process of getting used to the machine goes quickly and easily. Keep us posted!

  14. I haven't yet done a sleep study, because I would just as soon only wear breathing apparatus as a firefighter or scuba diver.

  15. I hated the sleep study almost as much as I hated wearing my cpac..I am severely claustrophobic and had trouble finding something that didn't give me panic attacks..never did..I am a mouth breather so things that would have worked I couldn't use cause I breath thru my mouth..tried straps that fit around my chin but didn't work either..going to go with a different company and try the sleep study again and hope they have newer equipment that I can actually wear.
personally I think you look cute in your Martian head wear..

  16. Ah man, sorry to hear it. You should give it a name so it seems more like a family member :) Good thing you can sleep on your side though. Looking forward to see if it works for you.

  17. For me to wear that, I would need to sleep 100% better every night.
