Random Acts of Shifeness - One Way or Another

  • I remembered another one-way story.
I witnessed this one in a movie theatre.
I was watching my buddies John Candy and Steve Martin drive down the road.
They were trying to get home for the holidays and just having a run of bad luck.
It's probably better if I let them explain.
  • When is the last time you watched "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"? It has a lot of great stuff but some of it doesn't quite hold up because we live in different times but I still think it's a good one.
  • Well for the first time in more than 20 years I will not be playing organized softball.
The city had already canceled the spring season and the interest from myself and my softball buddies was pretty low to play during fall so we decided to wait until next year.
Before COVID-19, the thought had crossed my mind to hang up the cleats but this made the decision a lot easier.
    Maybe next year.
    Maybe not.

  • The kids are back.
They had a wonderful time at Grandma and Grandpa's house but I am happy to have them home.
I think they did everything they wanted to do but go fishing.

Horseback riding on the Palouse.

Depending on who is asking, Kyle might be taking Ms. Frizzle for a ride on the side by side or he might just be pretending to drive while the side by side is parked in the driveway.

Hayden is impressed with the fireworks show.
Or she can't believe how funny her dad is.
It's probably the latter but I didn't want to sound arrogant.
  • Here's a little blast from the past when I was a stay-at-home daddy and used Facebook as my therapist.

  • Thank you for stopping and I hope you are well. Talk to you soon.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  2. I watch 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' as a pre-Thanksgiving movie. It's such a funny movie.
I'm impressed with the countryside in the pictures there. Very beautiful. Glad to see you're sticking with posting twice a week too.

    1. I seem to have a lot more free time these days, Jon, and since playing the guitar didn't stick, I thought I could at least write more.

  4. First of all, Planes Trains and Automobiles is one of my all time favorites. At the time of it's release I was traveling more days a week than I was home. So I could relate to a lot of it.
My God your kids are adorable. Little Ninjas! Ms. Fizzle is pretty great as well. Hope your hump day is a good one. I am buried in gin. :-)

    2. Thank you. The kiddos are keepers for sure as is Ms. Frizzle. Never gave gin much of a shot but this could be the year. Maybe that will be the karma that gets the world heading in the right direction. "Mr. Shife drinks gin, saves the world" would be an excellent headline.

  5. Glad the Kiddos had such a big time, Carefree days for Children is so limited right now. I'm having Anxiety attacks about School re-openings since there is no real Plan and they can't possibly make it safe ENOUGH, our State is still in major Crisis too so they shouldn't even be considering it remotely, let alone by mid-August!

  6. It's good to hear the kids are safely home and had fun with the grandparents! Ms. Frizzle looks a little concerned about Kyle's driving, or pretend driving. I remember the ninja days with both my sons and grandkids. What fun!

    1. Frizzy wasn't a big fan of the side by side, Bonnie, but she powered through to hang out with me and Kyle.

  7. It looks as if Kyle is using Mrs. Frizzle for a booster seat. Just saying.
It's half through July. I hope school is straightened out. I don't know what I would do.

    1. What an observation, Joanne. I can totally see it now. She was actually wedged behind Kyle in the driver's seat so he had to move way forward while he may or may not have been driving.

  8. Planes, Trains is still awesome. Mandatory viewing every Thanksgiving.

    Glad the kids are back.

Sorry about the softball. Some of this stuff sucks for real. My youngest has done NOTHING like his older brother did. No meeting with other babies at the library, no swim classes, jack squat. Just crawling around the floor and biting me.

    1. I hear ya, bud. Those library trips were life savers for me when the kiddos were super young. Hang in there. You can always let him watch Bull highlights when they used to be good. My oldest used to love the Running of the Bulls intro when he was about that age. He could give two shits about basketball now. I tried.

  9. Well, I think I'm the only person who's not watched that movie? I'm going to have to pull up to Netflix and see if I can find it.
And you used Facebook as your therapist? Oh, dear.

    XOXO

    1. Definitely worth a watch, sixpence. It has a few outdated moments like no TSA or smoking whenever the hell you want but it also has a few LOL moments.

  10. My husband loves that movie and watches it every Thanksgiving (on TBS?). Ms. Frizzle? Is that from Magic School Bus?

    1. Yes, Bijoux, our yellow lab is named after the character on the Magic School Bus. The kids were into it the time we got her 4 years ago. I didn't like it at first but now it has become my favorite F word. Which is saying a lot because I was in Navy and you know what they say about sailors.
