Thought of the day

Happy October!

Are you a fan of spooky season? It’s crisp outside, it’s Friday, and there’s football on, so I’ve got zero complaints.

Besides, nobody came here to read me whining on a Friday.
You’re here for the real stars of the show: Ms. Frizzle and Lucy.

Naturally, both girls are officially sporting their Halloween-themed collars.
Fashion first.

The basset also demanded that I introduce you to her new best friend: Bear.

Bear is a stuffed animal currently in medical rehab at Casa de Shife. He works with Mrs. Shife at her pediatric clinic, where he recently survived a few overly aggressive toddlers who took liberties with his ears. Lucy doesn't care that he's missing some stuffing and smells like hand sanitizer—she thinks he’s an absolute ten.

Meanwhile, Ms. Frizzle has unexpectedly become my new football buddy. Now I just need to figure out if she actually understands zone coverage or if she’s just developing a tragic fondness for her version of a Bear. (The photo is a little grainy, but that's Chicago and Philly on the screen—and Frizzle was locked in.)

Meme dump

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  4. I'm not into Halloween anymore but I do like the month of October for it's weather! I've never owned a dog that wouldn't have chewed off the ears or disemboweled a stuff animal within a couple hours.

    1. Halloween has lost its spark for me as well since my kids have aged out of it.

  5. My wife and I had dogs since we got married over 30 years ago, but lost our last one last Spring. Hence, I love reading your dogs' anecdotes. Today was no exception. Lucy may need to visit a doggy therapist when Mrs. Shife takes Bear back to work at the pediatric clinic. And beware, Ms. Frizzle may soon demand a Chicago football team sweatshirt, because it'll match the colors of her Halloween dog collar best. Oh, and it's true, as the father of 2 girls, I've watched a couple of versions of Pride and Prejudice. Peace, my friend!

  12. Those dogs sure have a comfortable life. Enviable.

The guy with the tea mug in the microwave is pretty bad, but I recall back at university hearing of a guy who said he realized he needed to cut back on the drugs after he was out driving one day and stopped at a stop sign for two minutes waiting for it to turn green -- and it did.

  14. Great post, I loved it, and always loved pic of the dog. The jason face freaks me out. There is a guy who stands where 115 intersects Route 1 in Foxborough who usually dresses up as an Indian and dances around for a few hours. The other day, he chose another face mask. He wore the jason mask. He was riding a bike and he turned to look at me with that face. Freaked me the hell out.
