Thought of the day

Happy birthday to the best baby basset!! Lucy Lou Magoo is now 4, which makes her about 32 in human years. My super-smart science bros tell me that brain development wraps up around age 32, marking the exact moment a chaotic adolescent brain officially shifts into stable adulthood. This is great news for Lucy, who can now officially blame her complete refusal to move off the couch on 'mature intellectual stability' rather than pure, unadulterated laziness.

  • In today's episode of "Have we lost our freaking minds": One major concern stemming from wildfire prediction markets is arson.” Will betting on wildfires lead to arson? Seriously, what in the wide world of fudge is going on?
  • In tomorrow's episode of "Have we lost our freaking minds": Mr. Shife will see if there is an obscenity prediction market and what is the over/under on f-bombs when a third appliance dies in the Shifley household. We lost our fridge and microwave this week, and we all know stuff happens in threes. I would be OK if we just had to replace a hand mixer.
Thanks for stopping by, and I will talk to you soon.

  1. The wildfire smoke is terrible here today. I'm sorry about the appliance loss. It's extremely frustrating and costly. Especially the fridge! Hope you didn't have to throw away a bunch of food :(
Happy Birthday Lucy! I've been known to take a few pictures like that last guy, but usually because the person is a wack job, not a hottie.

  4. Lucy's four already? Wow time flies when you're living a dog's life! It took me a minute to realized that Grandma's toilet paper wasn't bubble wrap! Then I laughed out loud. RIP appliances. Replacing pet fridges and microwaves can be so heart (and wallet) breaking.

  6. Happy birthday to Lucy Lou Magoo. May she have many more years of refusing to get off the couch.

Allowing betting on pretty much anything leads to corruption and schemes to cheat. There's no reason why wildfires would be any different -- especially since arson is pretty easy.

It would seem a shame to waste Grandma's beautiful hand-crafted toilet paper by using it as toilet paper.

  7. HBD Lucy! I hope your people spoil you (more) rotten on your special day.

  8. I am imagining the third appliance is a dishwasher because that's what happened in our house last year!

Happy Birthday Lucy and keep blaming everything you do on laziness!! Own it!!!

  9. It's a dead appliance epidemic, I think. We lost the microwave and the oven last week. The microwave had the decency to just quietly die, the oven did that runaway oven thing and became so hot it turned all the interior residue to white ash in the bottom. It was so fun trying to unplug it while the alarm was going off. And the smoke alarms were going off. And my profanity machine was going off.

In the past five years we have replaced the dryer, the fridge, the freezer, the dishwasher and the oven.. Ain't cheap.

  10. OMG happy birthday Lucy!
32, huh? I know some men who have gone BACK to being tween at that age. Not pretty.
And of course the pyromaniacs will come out of the woodwork if people can bet on fires. Duh.

    XOXO

  11. Wow, Matt, your baby is 32? She doesn't look a day over 4. I remember when you got her; it seems like only a year or so ago. Sorry about the appliances going. I'm expecting my fridge and range to go any time. (they're both 30) Come to think of it, the above the range microwave is probably at least 15 years old. Dang. I could be in for $$$$.

    1. We got a Whirlpool fridge and a Panasonic microwave. We are stuck on the microwave because we had a specialty cabinet built for it and it is the only brand that fits in there.

4 is a magical age for dogs, eh? Our first cairn terrier turned 4 a few days ago. He seemed rather smug about it.

I too blame my emotional stability for staying on the couch long past my bedtime because 'Space Truckin' is on the radio.
