Thought of the day
Because why should this level of absurdity stay confined to my blog?
Equal opportunity weirdness for everyone!
For context, here’s the timeline of events:

Hayden's volleyball game started 45 minutes late because the other team had bus problems (or maybe they just didn’t want to face our middle school powerhouse).
We’re currently in Game 2, and apparently, we’ll play Game 3 even if we or the other team wins the first two. Why? I don’t know. I’m just a middle-aged man trying to survive in a gym that smells like socks, tears and crushed dreams.
So hopefully, we’ll see everyone sooner rather than later.
The volleyball match finally ended at 6:25 PM, and we made it to the softball field at 6:54 PM.
We pulled off a 35-minute drive in 29 minutes.
Somewhere, a sports parent trophy is waiting for me.
For context, here’s the timeline of events:
- 4:30 PM: The time Hayden’s volleyball game was supposed to start. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
- 5:49 PM: I sent this message from the depths of a junior high gymnasium, while I was questioning some of my life choices.
- 6:30 PM: Hayden’s softball game was scheduled to begin.
- 6:55 PM: We arrived at the softball field, fashionably late but miraculously intact.

What a day!
How was your Wednesday?
Hope you are doing well, and I will talk to you soon.
P.S. Hayden's team won the volleyball match, but her team lost the softball game.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
I don't envy your world of sporting events. My older daughter has as 6th and 7th grader playing football and soccer. I don't know how they keep up.
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy and requires a good husband-wife combo for sure.
DeleteMy husband handled all of that at our house! People thought we were divorced!
ReplyDeleteDoes he still have PTSD from those days, Bijoux?
DeleteYes, but it stems from some of the other parents.
DeleteI am sure. We have some "interesting" parents on our teams.
DeleteI didn't realize that dual sports in a single season was even a possibility. Heck, I didn't even know volleyball went into spring. I thought it was solely a depth of winter sport. I guess I've been out of the loop for too long.
ReplyDeleteNo your loop is still good. Here in the land of potatoes, volleyball is only in the spring for 7th-graders. It is a fall sport from 8th-grade and beyond,
DeleteI was thankful my daughter was never into sports. lol
ReplyDeleteI bet.
DeleteYour schedule is exactly why we insisted our sons only do one sports activity per season.
ReplyDeleteWe are living and learning.
DeleteWe tried the multi-activity routine for only one semester and then told both kids they could choose one activity per season only. It was just too much. I did all the driving and meals and snacks and homework because of my husband's job, so it just wasn't going to work. I couldn't be two places at once. Your email is hilarious and I imagine it helped out some other similarly stressed parents :) Careful driving, though, or you'll get more than a sports parent trophy one of these days!
ReplyDeleteThanks, jenny_o.
DeleteI now feel quite lucky that the cats never got into after school sports ....
ReplyDeleteIt's never too late, Bob.
DeleteThat is CRAZY. And you have to work too! I couldn't do it. Well, I used to actually with a daughter in gymnastics and another in dance.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a balancing act. Thank the fat bassets I have Mrs. Shife to help me out.
DeleteWhy did softball season start so early in the year? Where you live, I'd still be worried about a foot of snow covering the field overnight.
ReplyDeleteYour concerns are shared by many others who live in this area but they always want to start in early March because why not.
