Thought of the day

Do you use AI?

Do you say please and thank you to the AI platform of your choice?

Well, if you do, you are costing them a lot of money.

According to the article, the reasons for politeness are not due to unnecessary habit, misplaced anthropomorphism, or fear of our future computer overlords, but because they are setting a tone for the AI's response.

From my perspective, it makes sense as I try to treat others the way I want to be treated, even if it is a robot.

Plus, I am trying to get on their good side when they take over the world.

Are you not familiar with Skynet?

Tell me how you use AI and if good manners are part of the conversation.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I am familiar with Skynet and I've read my share of sci-fi with machines that become sentient. So no, I don't use AI. It's bad enough that most of our electronics are spying on us anyway.

  2. Well. consider the example of HAL. He was VERY polite in refusing to open the pod bay doors.

  4. I've been accosted by a helpline bot, if that counts. I didn't engage :D I love the last meme. It's exactly how I feel. I always answer with, "Are you in town?" That way I know how long it would take them to get here and if I have time to prepare. I've been known to say, "So sorry, I was just headed out for an appointment" if it's not convenient. On the other side of the coin, I always call the day before if I'm visiting anyone else. I wish I were different, but I'm not!

  8. I don't use AI. Even on my steak. All joking aside, I block all AI generated profiles. I suppose that sounds paranoid, but damn. I have enough problems with real people. I don't need to have problems with the fakers too.

  9. Other than the AI-Generated contact I get on my Google searches I stay away from it as much as possible.
