Thought of the day
Happy Tax Day!!
Said no one ever.
Do you know anyone excited about April 15?
In honor of tax day, here's a blast from the past:
April 14, 2005
Yesterday (which would have been Wednesday) was rough. Mrs. Shife and I are still struggling to pay off our taxes, so I wrote her a check to cover the bill, expecting she’d wait until Friday to cash it. I thought I had everything timed perfectly so we could just scrape by until my next paycheck.
Just as I was feeling ahead of the game, we got hit with a $500 doctor’s bill—turns out Sarah’s health insurance doesn’t cover vision. That stung, but I figured we’d manage since I get paid Friday.
But then Mrs. Shife cashed the check early, thinking it was fine. It would have been—until the eye exam bill landed. Now, we’re at risk of bouncing a check.
We got home and argued about it, both of us frustrated and upset.
To top it all off, as I was lying in bed, I tried to let out a fart and ended up sharting instead.
To top it all off, as I was lying in bed, I tried to let out a fart and ended up sharting instead.
So, I ended the day by literally crapping my pants.
Perfect ending to a perfect day.
Perfect ending to a perfect day.
Besides accidentally redecorating my underwear, here are some other notable events from April 14, 2005:
- WWE Championship: John Cena debuted the spinner version of the WWE Championship on this day.
- United States: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced the arrest of 10,340 fugitives in Operation Falcon between April 4-10.

- Moon Phase: The Moon was in a Waxing Crescent phase, according to Moongiant.

- Zimbabwe: Two British journalists were acquitted after being charged with covering parliamentary elections without permission.
- Baseball: The Washington Nationals played their first Major League Baseball game in Washington, D.C. since 1971, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- During a Yankees/Red Sox game, a fan hit Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield in the face.
- Cricket: New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in the second Test at Wellington, winning the series 1-0
- Microsoft launched a user-editable version of its Encarta encyclopedia.

Meme dump
I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
Omg, I see sooooo many TikTok’s like that last meme! These poor pets need compensation!
ReplyDeleteThey most certainly do.
DeleteOMG
ReplyDelete2005???? Holy crap. You've sent me.
And paying taxes is no fun. Especially now, when we know we pay more taxes than Bezos, or Zuckerberg or Musk. Or Cheeto himself. Ugh.
XOXO
We do not love tax day. In addition to federal, and state taxes, we have nearly $5000 in property taxes due by the end of the month.
ReplyDeleteOwie. Ow, ow, ow!!!!!
Ouch indeed.
DeleteThat was a bad tax day but you survived ... though the sheets? Not so much?

DeleteThe sheets and the pj bottoms were retired that day along with the underwear.
DeleteI actually ended up doing my local taxes this morning, every other tax was taken care of back in February. Take you picture now!!!
ReplyDeleteGood job, Dave.
DeleteBack in the day I knew a couple of accountants that looked forward to the end of tax season on the 15th...and as a bonus they had the next day off.
ReplyDeleteThey most certainly earned it.
DeleteOne of my kids said everyone is allowed one accidental "shart" in life. You've used yours up now.
ReplyDeleteI used up mine a very long time ago.
DeleteI have that snacking problem in the evening too--why do they make cheddar pretzels?? More importantly, why do I keep buying them? Sharting is an appropriate response to many days lately.
ReplyDeleteCheddar pretzels are pretty yummy.
DeleteNo day is enhanced by sharting.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of one that would, Debra.
DeleteOuch. Misunderstandings are the worst. Everyone is trying but things go wrong anyhow. Hope the cheques are slow to clear the bank. Our taxes aren't due until April 30 here in Canada. I don't know whether it's weirder that the dates are so close or that they aren't identical.
ReplyDeleteI feel that first meme, which has to stop immediately or else. (self pep talk)
just moving this comment to a different spot, didn't mean to post as a reply to Bob!
And now I realize you were talking about twenty years ago!! I need to start paying attention when I read :D
DeleteIt happens to the best of us, jenny_o.
DeleteSorry about your terrible tax day. I never like the day and wait to pay at the last minute. I am also upset that they are doing away with writing checks (and post marking them on tax day) after this year. And I'm upset that I pay more takes than what Elon and Bezos and others often pay... Tell me again why they need more tax breaks. The last time Trump cut taxes, ours when up by a couple thousand dollars.
ReplyDeleteI think we are the ones that need the tax break. Thanks, Jeff.
