Thought of the day

Some days are better than others.
It is just how things work out sometimes, but for my mental health, it is super important that I don't dwell on the negative, or the one bad day will spiral into a few.
One thing that has helped me get my mind right is my gratitude journal.
Every day, I write down three things that I appreciate.
It keeps me focused on the present and not future worrying, which is what usually leads me into a panic or anxiety attack.
I was looking through all of my old journals, and I have been doing this since March 2017.
So I have roughly 8,811 grateful entries.
On this date in 2017, I wrote that I was grateful that I had lunch with my friend, Brian; I bought the Sports Illustrated with the University of North Carolina basketball team on the cover (they won the NCAA championship a few days prior); and I talked to my friend Robert on the phone.
This year, I am grateful I got some yardwork done; I talked to my dad on the phone (he lives in Illinois, so we chat about once a week); and I finally got to take a nap.
Besides getting daily updates from your favorite blogger in Idaho (for the love of the fattest bassets, I hope I am the only blogger they know from Idaho), is there anything you are grateful for today?

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I agree on the gratitude journal! Today, I'm grateful for my brother doing my taxes, free health care for a current health issue, and those who are pushing back on the current U.S. administration (today it's Harvard). Keep on swimming, Mr. Shife.

  2. P. S. Derrick needs to learn to schlep that incriminating evidence to a garbage can somewhere else, not his own!

  3. I biked down to our new park, Sunset Dunes, on what was the Great Highway, yesterday and was met with so many happy people, young and old, enjoying the area. There was a jazz trio playing, so I sat to listen and, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small boy just really jamming to the music. He sort of looked like the Peanuts gang when they dance--head bent slightly to the side, limbs kind of gently swaying--and he WAS SO HAPPY. Seeing him made me feel joyous and so very grateful that we are able to have this new park in our immediate vicinity. Be well, Mr. Shife!

  4. My gratitude journaling lasted one month. I’m proud I did it that long, so major props to you. I hope you’re still friends with Brian and Robert. And I actually do have another blog friend in Idaho, Magical Mystical Mimi! She tends to disappear for months though.

  7. I spent all day counting many thousands of dollars worth of money and depositing them into bank accounts, not one of them my account. But I am grateful the Subway lady didn't go overboard on the mayo today!
