Thought of the day
Earlier this month, I wrote about the mysterious Shifley spoon shortage.
The conundrum had me as bewildered as a penguin in a heatwave, but it has been solved.
Turns out, the culprits were none other than my own two bundles of joy, Kyle and Hayden.
Their diabolical scheme?
Stashing spoons under their pillows for a snow day.
Why?
Because apparently, that's how you conjure a snow day.
I guess I missed that lesson in Parenting 101, right after "How to explain the birds and the bees" and "Why your children will always choose the most inconvenient moment to need something."
They also thought it would be a good idea to turn our toilet into a mini-Antarctica by flushing all the ice cubes.
Spoiler alert: Their spooning-and-flushing wizardry didn't work.
But I got some writing material so I got that going for me, which is nice.
Meme dump
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
My kids were told by TEACHERS that wearing their pajamas backwards (or was it inside out?) would bring on a snow day. My kids thought it was stupid and didn’t do it. They were always a cynical bunch 🤣
ReplyDeleteI have at least heard of the PJ one.
DeleteWhat kind of witchcraft are they teaching kids in school these days?
ReplyDeleteWe live in Idaho so I am afraid to ask.
DeleteHow bizarre! I've never heard such superstitions. Of course we don't get much snow in my neck of the woods so, it would be pointless anyway. The dog meme is my favorite. I've always wondered what I'm saying to them.
ReplyDeleteI found it quite bizarre too.
DeleteWhen I talk to my dog she always wonders why I repeat everything she just said.
ReplyDeleteMy dogs just leave the room.
DeleteI have never heard to spoon or toilet theories but .... one never knows.
ReplyDelete401k .... dying.
The 401k is a goody.
DeleteSpooning and flushing wizardry Haha!
ReplyDeleteBeef stew, stroganoff… funny one, and both yummy!
Mary
The wizardry is always worth a shot, right?
DeleteOMG, these memes were so.... bad punish, I had to laugh. And someone should have told them spoons never work, it's the salad forks that do the trick.
ReplyDeleteI will pass along the information.
DeleteThat's a shame their tricks didn't get them a snow day.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to get them out of the house. =)
DeleteI'd never heard of any ways to bring on snow days. At school one of the teachers used to take his class outside for a "snow dance." In my case, I could just look at the sky and say yes or no. I have an eye for it.
ReplyDeleteA local bar does a "Pray for Snow" party in late fall and I am not sure if they had any success or not.
DeleteI missed quite a few discussions like that with my children. Now I'm struggling with a college age child with absolutely zero street smarts.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say I "missed" this one, Ed.
DeleteI love this! What would forks under the pillow have wrought? :D
ReplyDeleteProbably an eye patch!
DeleteI wish I could remember what I attributed the spoon shortage to. Think it involved beagles. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteYou initially thought the dogs were behind it.
DeletePlease tell me this spoons and ice cubes were not part of the science curriculum.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me in Idaho but nope.
DeleteWell that's a new one for me. I've never heard of doing that to conjure snow.
ReplyDeleteMe either.
DeleteNever a dull moment in your house!
ReplyDeleteNope.
DeleteI wonder where they got the idea about the spoons?

DeleteWe have a problem with folks... Let us know how your 401K turns out :)
ReplyDeleteWill do!!
Deleteand the above comment was from me because, for some reason, I'm defaulted to anonymous.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know, Jeff!
DeleteNever ran that far before, cracked me up! Kids do like snow days, but I didn't know there were special things to be done to bring them on. I must ask my daughter who's an educator if she's heard the kids talking about stuff like that. You've got me curious.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you find out, Sandy.
DeleteThanks for letting us know how that mystery was resolved! Kids :)
