Thought of the day

I need to check in with the celestial beings to see what kind of package I signed up for in 2025. Fingers crossed it is the lucky and blessed package, not the trials and tribulations package I am currently on.

I purchased a DVD player.
Yes, you read that correctly and no it is not 2008.
I got tired of buying movies we already own on DVD.
And I have a lot of DVDs.
I thought back in the day it was a wise financial decision to buy them and when I got older they would be collectibles and I would laugh all the way to the bank.
Well, that retirement strategy didn't pan out.
You can get a good DVD player for about $30 so it feels like a wise investment.
I let Hayden pick out the first movie to watch and she chose "Dodgeball."
She thought it sounded funny.
She thought differently after about 10 minutes.
However, Mrs. Shife and I still found it slightly amusing so we finished it.

Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. Our tribulation package included burying a dog this morning. 😢 Don't worry.... things will get better for all of us. I'm counting on it.
p.s. we still have a DVD/VHS combo player.

    1. At least you know where they are at. I am still trying to track down a few.

  4. My DVD player just got taken to the recycling station. Next to go -- my remaining DVDs. A lot have gone already to charitable rummage sales, and the rest will follow in the new year. And OMG I'm stealing that Nespresso/farts meme -- too funny!

  5. The November meme is REAL! But not as real as January. I was at an antiques mall today with a friend and she told me she still had her kids’ Disney VCR collection that Disney claimed would never be re-released. We saw a few for sale . . $2.50

  6. When I owned a DVD player it was "universal", in that it would play DVD's manufactured in several countries. Cost too much, but I used it a lot. The first time I downsized I donated the player and my DVD collection to our local library. They were very pleased, and that made me happy.

  8. We too have a DVD/VHS combo. I can't remember the last time we used it.

I wouldn't want to go back to 2008 unless by doing so I could change 2024.

  9. I'm with you! I own two DVD players. Plus, I can get DVDs from the library for free and play them. I also have a VHS player. I'm old!

  10. The Nespresso farts meme is my favorite one.

  11. I still have a VCR that works. And an 8mm camera/player. And a CD player. And a DVD.

  12. I, too, bought a DVD player from Amazon. New... well, only kind of. When I went to insert a disc, another popped out: The Real Housewives of Australia, so for the same price as you paid, I got a used DVD player and a shitty disc. And I'm sort of getting old, and I still stay up past my bedtime!

  13. Digital content is unreliable. You can buy digital content and the vendor can delete it! Happens all the time. In addition, some of the things I have on DVD have been edited when I see them on Netflix or Prime. Leaving out whole scenes or changing words. Nope, thanks, but I will keep buying movies. I have TWO DVD players still in the boxes and one playing a movie right now.

Also, I listen to CDs in my car and still make new ones now and then.

  14. I have not one, but two DVD players. One for upstairs that rarely gets used anymore. It was actually bought to replace my single disk one that I originally bought for my stereo system back when I was teen. It has spaces for five disks at once!

The other DVD player is a recent purchase when I got a new computer earlier this year and went to install some old programs and realized that computers don't come with CD/DVD players anymore. WTH? I had to buy one that connects up to a USB port. I think my eldest nicked it and it is in a college dorm room now.

    1. When I went thrifting with Hayden, I realized the err of my ways as there are a lot of decent DVD players at the local Goodwill type stores so you can explore that option to replace the one that got nicked, Ed.

  15. Ohhh
That's actually a good idea. You may be on to something. I'm gonna get one and I'll use it for 'educational' videos. I stream everything (including the 'educational' videos). But this may solve the problem of a bad WiFi signal forever.
And like Ami, I still also listen to CDs. My car (that is almost ten years old!) still has a CD player. I may keep the car just for the CD player...

    XOXO

  17. Nice one! We still have a DVD player for cache of DVDs we still own. Dodgeball, eh? I don't know if I ever saw that one. I recall Zoolander being pretty dang funny.
