Shife's Sparkly Spectacular - Day 28

Thought of the day

Kyle was already a busy guy with school and cross country.
Now he has added debate to his schedule.
He competed in his second event this past weekend and won a silver medal.
Not too shabby.
I had no idea it was a varsity sport.
I also had yet to learn that his team does two events per month.
And I was completely oblivious to the fact that these events can take up most of the day especially if they are out of town.
Mrs. Shife and I are extremely proud of him.

Talk to you tomorrow.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  3. Back in the day, I was a member of the Future Farmers of America in high school and part of their annual get together was a debate competition focused on using Robert's Rules of Order. I always enjoyed those debate competitions and to this day, still find myself wishing more people had knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order. Meetings would be so much shorter if followed.

    1. I will need to ask Kyle about Robert and his rules to see if they use them.

  4. Debate, which involves research, logic and critical thinking, should be a requirement. It's such a useful and important life skill. Good for Kyle! Is he your clone, Matt or are my eyes deceiving me?

  6. Had no clue that Debate was a Varsity anything! There was only one kid on the debate team at my high school and he traveled all over with the advisor. He did quite well in life, so there's that. Congrats to Kyle!

  7. Congrats to Kyle, big time. You should be proud! Being able to publicly speak coherently in a debate is amazing, though I have to admit that for some reason I keep thinking he's 12.

  8. Oh dear. A teenager who is learning how to debate? And debate and win? Oy. Stay on that kid's good side.

  9. That is so cool! My nephew took debate in high school because he liked to talk and argue, ha. Now he's an account's manager for Speedo, North America. He can chat up anyone!
