Thoughts of the day

How was your Labor Day weekend?
I had a good one. Thanks for asking.
I got an early start to mine and that is why I didn't blog last week.
Looking at my 2024 numbers, I have taken several weeks off this year.
This will be only my 30th post of the year.
Yikes!
I posted 112 times last year.
I need to pick up the pace.
You could even say I need to improve my vowel movements.

Kyle and Hayden are busy with their sports.
Kyle has been really impressive in his first two meets.
He placed 4th and 31st.
His team also won both of those meets.
He is off to race in northern Idaho this weekend with his team.
After their race, they go to a theme park and spend the night at a campsite.

Hayden had her first game this week and played well.
Her team won 15-5.
She is on a school team and a club team.
Her school team plays at the varsity field so it was exciting for her to play on the field where she has watched all the cool kids play.
She has a tournament this weekend with her club team.
Mrs. Shife will be going to watch Kyle race so Hayden gets to spend the whole weekend with me so that is way better than a theme park and camping.

Meme dump

Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. You know what?
I don't remember enjoying playing sports. Kudos to your kids for being into it. I think it develops coordination, social skills and makes you aware of how your body moves. Especially useful during the awkward teen years. It's also quite social, so there's that.
I have always wondered what will happen to those people who've had a TON of work done: they're gonna look like that cartoon after they die, I'm sure. Or worse.

    XOXO

    1. I never thought about it either until you and a few others mentioned it. I have a titanium rod in my body. I wonder how that will break down. And for not playing sports, you turned out just fine, Sixpence.

  2. Busy, busy kids! And that means busy, busy parents!
OMG, skeleton boobs and how to speak Mandarin! Had to steal those, thanks.

  3. Enjoy the moments. I'm still stunned at how fast my kids grew up!! Kyle looks so much older in the last year or so.
Out of the 19 years I've been blogging, there were four years that I blogged daily. Guess I had a lot to say.
    Haha, apparently I still do.

Yeah... blog. Have those 'vowel movements'. Don't wanna get spiritually constipated, now do we?

    1. Definitely don't need any constipation in my life, Ami.

  4. Making plans in a group chat is quite accurate. The doctors texting made me laugh! Silverwood, I presume? Staying home is the best end of the deal to this old fart. :) Not sure how your daughter sees it though.

    1. You presumed correctly. I was glad to stay home and watch Hayden play ball.

  5. Aaaand - they're off! The sports year begins! You have both my commiserations for the schedule and my congratulations for the great humans you are raising.

I love that last meme. Reminds me of trying to set up a crafting workshop with a dozen "older" crafters. Some can't drive after dark, some can't drive in winter, some can't drive at all. It leads to a LOT of phone calls, let me tell you :)

  6. Well done, kiddos, in the sports department! Love the memes this time. Every single one.

  7. A great selection of memes. I realized today that whenever I get an email that you've commented on one of my posts that means there's a new one here...I appreciate the former, but the latter is what really jazzes me 😀.

  8. Good on the kids.
    This, however, ...
You could even say I need to improve my vowel movements.
... made me groan and snicker at the same time!
    Have a great weekend Shifes!

  10. I remember how much fun it was to spend the night somewhere with friends, so I hope Kyle has a blast. But pizza and ice cream with Dad would be fun, too! Enjoy your time with Hayden.

    That last meme is Truth.

  11. How about hip implants and rods screwed into bones? I've wondered how well those cremate.
Good job to those sporty young 'uns.

    1. My niece found a bolt in my sister's ashes. We wondered if it might have been part of her chemo port. Otherwise, maybe the crematorium was losing pieces!

    2. Wow. Never heard that one before, Kelly.

    3. That is an excellent point, Joanne.

  12. A theme park and camping sounds great if you're a kid; some parents not so much. I think you got the better deal :)

  13. Enjoyed the meme's. Hadn't seen any of those before. The kids sound like they're keeping very busy, which means you are two, trying to watch their meets and games and cheer them on. Stay away camp is good for kids. We had a nice Labor Day Wkend, went to an OSU football game, went to an arts festival 1 mile from the house, and cooked out. Would like to see Unions become stronger again; people benefit from that.

  15. LOL at Jeff. I hope a good weekend was had by all. (But, honestly, supervising a batch of adolescents at a theme park sounds hellish to me...my sympathy is with Mrs. S this weekend)
