Back to school
And off they go to high school and junior high.Kyle is now a sophomore and Hayden is a 7th-grader.
In their swift growth, Mrs. Shife and I hold both the thrill of today and the ache of tomorrow.
So darn fast but I am grateful for all of it and enjoying the ride.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a wonderful week.
I will just be in the corner sobbing for a bit before I stop by your blog and say hello.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
Two smart, accomplished and good-looking teens! You and Mrs Shife have a beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra.
DeleteOur? Ouch! Since I've been reading your blog, your children have morphed from little kids to these grown up looking young people. WTH? They are looking great!
ReplyDeleteMore like WTF! Thanks, Margaret.
DeleteI'm happy with most parts of my life. If I could redo any 20 year increment, I would choose raising my kids again. I'd enjoy them more this time around. It really does fly by. Hope your young humans have a great school year and that they find a lot of things that bring them joy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ami.
DeleteJust wait....down the line time will start going even faster!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait.
DeleteHopefully they were second cousins.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed.
DeleteIsn't it always a shock when school starts up again and you realize how grown up your kids are getting? I hope they have wonderful school years! I'm afraid to ask what a self cemetery even is.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bijoux.
DeleteI understand the "ache of tomorrow" because tomorrow is arriving for us this Saturday.
ReplyDeleteHope it went OK for you, Ed.
DeleteMan the kids are growing up ...
ReplyDelete"Our" grandmother ... slays.
Yes, they are, Bob.
DeleteI think my favorite is the falconry glove at the park. I hope your kids have a great school year!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelly.
DeleteNothing wrong with a good sob now and then.
ReplyDeleteYep. Thanks, DB.
DeleteThey grow up so fast. My daughter is 33 and my grandson is 11 years old now.
ReplyDeleteCan confirm.
DeleteIt's traumatic.
ReplyDeleteOne day they are choosing what their fav cartoon is an the next they know what #kamalaisbrat is and asking for an upgrade for their MacBook. Seriously.
And I cackled with your memes. Now I want a Falconry glove.
XOXO
TY SP! Me too. Where do you buy all of your falconry needs?
DeleteMature looking kids you are sending off. Do not despair; you and Mrs. S have more episodes of parenting to come. College. First jobs. Loves. Etcetcetcetc. You will grow old from it all.
ReplyDeleteAlways appreciate your wonderful advice, Joanne.
DeleteOur grandchildren are headed back to school this week. It seems too soon!
ReplyDeleteAgreed
DeleteOkay. That last one? That's hilarious. And disturbing. (As all the best memes are.) Your kids are suddenly not kids anymore. It does happen quickly doesn't it? Need tissues?
ReplyDeleteYes, lots of them. Thanks, Debby.
DeleteWow your children have grown since I began reading you. I can't only imagine how you feel. That last meme took me a minute and then eeewww.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed and it makes me feel really old, Peg.
DeleteSchool starts so soon? Self cemetery...what is it?
ReplyDeleteYep. It seems really early this year. If I had to take an educated guess about the cemetery, I think a family with the last name Self has a giant cemetery plot. Or maybe a town named Self.
DeleteAlexander and Taco Bell - LOL!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the bittersweet feeling of offspring growing up so fast . . . but if it's any comfort at all, they will still be your offspring as long as you live. Parenting doesn't end when they leave the house. But I'm sure you are already aware of that. You have great-looking kids, and - even better - they are good kids too.
TY JO!
DeleteBeautiful pictures; you and the Mrs. have every right to be very proud!
ReplyDeleteThanks, kden.
DeleteIt seems incredibly hard to believe that they are that old. Glad things are going well with them (and you).
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to believe and thank you.
DeleteI hope your kids have a great year. And I'll be on the lookout for a falcon glove.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeff.
