Thought of the day

  • After you are done reading the most popular blog in America (featuring a guy named Mr. Shife), you should head over to 7-Eleven to celebrate Happy Slurpee Day!! Unfortunately, we don't have one nearby so I can't wheez the juice.

  • Kyle hasn't had much luck finding a summer job but he recently heard from Dairy Queen. He had an interview this afternoon. I don't know how it is around your parts but 16 seems to be the magical age when you get hired. Kyle is only 15 but maybe he will catch a break with DQ.
  • In prepping for her braces appointment, Hayden thought she would try to catch a softball with her chin. Maybe they would be focused on her bruised face and not notice her new features .

  • Speaking of those new features, here she is with her braces. I am very biased but she looks great.

  • Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are well. Talk to you soon.

  1. Hayden looks good ... not the bruise, I mean!
Sending good thoughts for Kyle on the job hunt!

  2. Ah the braces. Both my kids were in braces at the same time and I had NO INSURANCE. Every paycheck I earned for three years went into their mouths. And I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Neither one of them will ever have the trouble I did with wisdom teeth and overcrowding and other issues.

The softball had to have hurt. Best to Kyle trying to get a job. I hope the DQ thing works out!

  3. I hope Kyle gets the job! Hayden looks great, braces, bruise, and all!

  4. Onya Marx. I'm still laughing.

Hayden wears her braces well. I hope they didn't poke the bruise too much putting them on her.

  5. Wheezing the juice is disgusting. Hayden, on the other hand, is lovely, save the bruise.
High school kids are hired for our dining room, setting tables, clearing, schmoozing the old folks. Someone's sister was hired, but had to be 16 this week to start.

  6. Braces are a rite of passage and she does indeed look great. Did she get a big talk from the orthodontist about wearing a mouth guard like my kids did? I hope her chin heals quickly. That had to have been brutal.

  7. That bruise! Oh, my. Hayden has a beautiful smile both without and with braces. Can you believe that I've never had a Slurpee although there are 7-11s nearby?

    1. I can believe it. You are a wise one, Margaret, and know that Slurpees are just loaded with crap.

  9. When I'm going to stay in a hotel I bring my own showerhead and a wrench with me. No pissy little 2.5 gallon flow for me.

  10. I will not celebrate slurpee day. I will spend it sipping ginger/peach tea from a specially designed cup. Looks around in a superior way. Notices that no one is paying attention because they are slurping slurpees from a specially designed cup with a specially designed straw.

    *sigh*

I think you have a very lovely daughter. She has really grown up since I began reading the most famous blog in the world. Good luck to Kyle. Dairy Queen here hires kids younger that 16 with parental permission. It is just that they are not allowed to operate certain machinery.

    A rite of passage, right?
And the one with the kids exploring the ancient ruins? ROTFLMAOOOO

And just like that I want a DQ Blizzard!

    XOXO

  13. Well in our fair state, it is illegal to hire anyone under 16 and if you are over 16, you can only work in certain sectors. I'm pretty sure Dairy Queen would be an acceptable sector.

The motel shower meme really resonates with me.

  14. Around here the magic age is 16, you can get hired at 15, but you need to get working papers from the school district that need to be signed by your parents authorizing you to work. And I used to work for Marriott, and I know all about hotel showers.

  15. That bruise! Ouch! Good thing it wasn't a couple of inches higher and to the middle . . . but you've already thought of that and thanked your lucky stars, I imagine. Hayden does have a lovely smile :) Good luck to Kyle. Age is an unreliable way of deciding who should be permitted to work. Some kids are far more mature than others at 15.

  16. I think the last 7-11 I was in was in Bangkok... so save your money, you may be putting it into Hayden's mouth (she's a good looking kid). And remote areas, I never knew...
