 Thoughts of the day

  • Happy almost birthday, Kyle!! Any guesses on how old he will be? Do you need a hint? He just got his driver's permit and I have been relegated to the backseat. Mrs. Shife and I have decided she is the better teacher so I will be in the back silently praying to baby Jesus.

  • Good luck to me as I coach my first softball game. Hayden talked me into coaching her team so I'll lead the Serpents onto the field tonight. Baby Jesus might be hearing from me again.
  • Happy MLB Opening Day to those who celebrate. I am not too optimistic about my team's chances - St. Louis Cardinals - since we open the season against the Dodgers, who spent about 27 billion dollars in the offseason to upgrade their team.

  • This made me laugh a lot when I really needed a good laugh this week.

  2. A bag of cords? Several boxes of cords and small transformers. You never know when you might need one.

  3. Sadly, you're right about the classical music. Did you know there are more than 6 different bodily fluids that glow under a black light?

    1. I did not know that, Dave. I can't wait to see my Google Search results.

  4. I hope you have an imaginary brake in the back seat. All the little snake heads wearing hats made me smile. Hisssss.

  7. I taught three boys to drive and lived to tell. Between you and Mrs. Shife you can do it!

And unfortunately you seem to be right about the Cardinals. I've already stepped away from today's game.

  9. Good luck with the driving! My late husband was better--calmer and more patient. Of course, it didn't help that I first took my older daughter to a parking lot where she hit the gas instead of the brake and sailed us over a speed bump. Those tiny hats on Medusa are cute. Losing 14 days of happiness on a diet, yep.

    1. Thank you, Margaret. I would probably bail on being the teacher if I had that experience as well.

  13. I taught my youngest son to drive, and it was fine. He was super nervous. I knew I had done well when I saw him and a friend in his car driving down the road (he didn’t see me though). He looked so happy and relaxed!

  14. Funny. When you have a baby you don't think about toilet training and solid food and braces and girl/boy friends and school. You just think about a sweet tiny person who snuggles up and makes squeaky noises into your neck. Having a kid learn to drive is stressful. Technically, having a KID is stressful, though. Happy next phase of child development!!

  15. Oh my, that's exciting! Each parent can bring something to the table about driving. Tony would take Faith places that I wouldn't, but she said I was a calmer teacher :)

  16. I went out with my eldest a couple times but decided it wasn't worth it. We paid for her to take driving lessons from a local teacher after school. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

  17. The car pic is me sitting in the passenger seat praying to baby Jesus while my husband who had a stroke learns to drive again. Oh my goodness. My dad brought me to a cemetery to learn to drive. All headstones were flat. He said I couldn't hurt anyone there. It worked I must admit. 3 pt turns and all.

  18. Happy birthday to Kyle. I didn't get my drivers license until I was 24. lol My late husband taught me how to drive and I passed the first time with only 2 points deducted from my tests.

  19. Driving already? He'll be leaving home before you know it! Oh wait; there's a worldwide housing shortage, he might live with you forever.

  20. Riding in the backseat with your kids... just tell yourself you're safer there! The Pirates got off to a great start. I plan on seeming them play St. Louis in July in Pgh.
