Thought of the day

Today is a day that I never thought would happen.
I just couldn't imagine that I would have the strength or the courage to hit this milestone.
You need to make a decision: one day or day one.
When you realize enough is enough.
I had a drinking problem.
And I needed to change my ways or my drinking was going to lead to even bigger problems.
I reached out for help and started on a new path.
It has officially been one year since I quit drinking.
So if you are thinking about making a change then this is your sign.
You can do it.
I believe in you.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said it much better than I could:
What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

Happy Halloween!!

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  5. One of my favorite quotes from my cousin Ralph, 5th cousin 7 times removed that is. True fact.

Congratulations on hitting that milestone! In light of the recent tragedy, I'm sure it is even more momentous! Maybe in a few years we can talk about your basset hound addiction.

  9. Way to go, Mr. Shife! You did it and we are proud! Did you watch Mike's Real World season (he's the dude in the top photo, if you are unaware)? We are particularly proud of him in the CLE, as he's a boy from Parma, Ohio.

  11. Takes a lot of courage to look squarely at a problem and then fix it. You have set a fine example for your children. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane? No! It's super Shife!

  18. Cheering for you, Mr. Shife - that shows true commitment and grit. You have inspired me so much with ALL of your challenges and I thank you for that. Alcohol is a biggie and you took that bull by the horns. I think a lot of folks have issues with alcohol but only a fraction are admitting it even to themselves. Also, thank you for believing in us - I need to seriously address my food issues, and inside my brain is that little voice telling me it's hopeless. But maybe not. You've made me think - again. Keep on keeping on, Mr. S!
