Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Do you have any plans?
We have an exciting day of meeting a possible dog trainer for Lucy.
Do you have any plans?
We have an exciting day of meeting a possible dog trainer for Lucy.
Lucy treats every day like she is celebrating Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.
She's a huge fan of the big Z, Zaragoza.
We are hoping to channel her energy so it is more like siesta time around here than ay caramba. It also reminded me to share some Shifley history.
I have been keeping a journal since 2005 and it is interesting looking back on how different things were before Mrs. Shife and I had kids.
- In 2005, we had a "Lost" viewing party with a bunch of co-workers because we were all hooked on that show.
Update: In my opinion, "Lost" just dragged on and on and didn't have a great ending. - In 2006, we went to a Cinco de Mayo party at our neighbor's house. It also appears that I went down to the horse track with some friends to do some gambling and day drinking.
Update: We have the same neighbor but she got divorced and remarried. And horse racing is no longer around as it got shut down a few years ago. - In 2007, we had a party at our house to watch the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather fight. It looks like I was rooting for De La Hoya and the fight was not that great as Mayweather won pretty easily. Turns out he is a pretty good boxer.
Update: I can't even remember the last time I bought a pay-per-view event - In 2008, I played in a softball tournament and it snowed that weekend.
Update: Spring weather has always sucked in Idaho. - In 2009, we were parents and life really changed.
Update: Really glad that I am a dad.
Thanks for saying hi and maybe I will talk to you tomorrow.
I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.
I did the journal thing too, for a while. I honestly have to say I don't recognize my younger self. It's difficult to believe I was that naïve.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you were either, Dave. =)
DeleteI never put anything on paper...too easy to convict me..
ReplyDeleteYou are a wise woman, YDG.
DeleteI like your "then and now" journal review! Cinco de Mayo is not a real big celebratory event in Canada but our Mexican community is growing so perhaps someday it will be more prominent here. But thanks for the reminder. I might just make tacos for supper tonight.
ReplyDeleteHope you had amazing taco night, Debra.
DeleteLife is change, pure and simple. Some days, I don't enjoy that. Others, I'm exceedingly thankful for it.
ReplyDeleteMeant to add on your previous post how big Lucy is - how did that hppen so fast? Ms Frizzle just looks resigned, lol
She's almost 10-months-old, jenny_o.
DeleteHappy Cinco de Mayo! I watched Lost (recently--like this year) and the first few seasons were so good and then it really lost me. But I watched till the very end. I was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Cinco de Mayo, JM.
DeleteI received a box of letters I had sent to a friend during high school and into my 20s. It is hard to believe I was so immature.
ReplyDeleteGood thing we have matured and grown as people. Unfortunately, that is not always the case with some folks.
DeleteI liked the ending of Lost though it might have been better had the show not run on and on.
ReplyDeleteThey needed to cut about 3 seasons out of that show, Bob.
DeleteI will be interested in Lucy' training progress. How quickly it comes along,
ReplyDeleteThis is the way, Joanne.
DeleteThat's what's great about journals and blogging; I enjoy going back to look at my past entries. Being a parent is (mostly) way better than those other things. Does pay per view still exist? I've never done it! I never watched "Lost." I'm more into TV now than I used to be plus I had very busy teenagers during the time it was on.
ReplyDeletePPV still exists, Margaret. ESPN tries to talk me into buying MMA fights but they haven't won me over yet.
DeleteI enjoyed the then and now. Snow in May is such a bummer, but we’ve come to expect it here as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bijoux.
DeletePay-per-view events purchased = 0.
ReplyDeleteYou saved a lot of money, Mike.
DeleteGood luck channeling her energy. My dog is almost 9 and still has so much energy. He always wants to go for a walk. I end up outside about 8 times a day.
ReplyDeleteShe's a basset but she lives with a lab so we might be screwed.
DeleteI saw a large truck with a mega-flag representing Mexico being flown from the truck bed on Friday and I momentarily forgot it was Cinco de Mayo. I thought, boy this dude really likes to represent!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was bartending we would somewhat dismissively refer to 5.5 as Cinco de Drinko. (Whomp-whomp.)
I am familiar with Cinco de Drinko as well, Bea. It was just another excuse to get hammered. Hopefully I have put those days behind me.
DeleteI've been writing in a journal since the mid 90's but rarely go back and read them. My dad used to read his journals from the past from time to time and I enjoyed listening to him telling us what we did on such and such date.
ReplyDeleteI was a huge Lost fan. But by the end, I had given up on it. I thought the ending was horrible.
Ah.... the days of celebrating Cinco de Mayo or as we called it back then, Give It To the Liver, Down by the River! It is nice to know what we were celebrating after all these years.
You got me beat, Ed. I have been doing it since 2005. It was a present from my mother-in-law and probably one of the best gifts I ever receieved.
