4/5/23

Happy birthday, Mom.
April 5, 1949.
My mom would have been 74 today.
Thinking of her a lot today and, as always, missing her quite a bit.
I am sharing a quote that helps me get through this day and all the others.

“The life of the dead is placed on the memories of the living.
The love you gave in life keeps people alive beyond their time.
Anyone who was given love will always live on in another's heart.” - Cicero

Even though her absence is still deeply felt, I take great comfort that she lives on through us.

Hayden's game

And I know she is living on through Hayden because my Mom loved baseball.
She played ball growing up until it was no longer appropriate for young ladies to do such things and she also played ball with me in our backyard until I was a teenager.
She would have absolutely loved watching Hayden play.
The weather cooperated just enough to let Hayden's team play their second game.
She played center field, 3B, and got to pitch one inning.
I was a very proud dad.
Hayden had several highlights but the one that caught everyone's eye was when she pitched.
She got 3 outs on 5 pitches.
The first and third girls swung at the first pitch and grounded out to first.
The second girl struck out on 3 pitches.
I shared a video below of the first batter she faced.

The other awesome thing about the game is Hayden's team won 4-3.
They are a 12-and-under but their game was against a 14-and-under team.
Good times.

Well, that is all for today. Take care, thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you tomorrow.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I completely feel you on this post. My mom would have been 69 later on this year. I still see her through and in my girls.

    1. It's crazy sometimes how you just catch a glimpse of your parent in your child. I got goosebumps just typing that.

I have the same thoughts as you on my mother's birthday. To celebrate, I do her favorite thing by going to the casino and playing the slots.
You almost make wish I had children.

    1. Hope you had a good time celebrating, Jimmy, and I can share some shitty details about being a dad so you don't have those feelings again. =)

  5. They say a person will live as long as someone knows their name.
Your mom may just live forever.

  6. I don't know if your dad is still around but when you lose your last parent it's an odd feeling. You've lost your last link to the past. It's almost like being an orphan.

  7. Your mom lives on in you, your kids and your memories. Cold consolation, I know. I've always liked these words: “Death ends a life, but it does not end a relationship, which struggles on in the survivor’s mind toward some final resolution, some clear meaning, which it perhaps never finds.”

  8. It's also my sis-in-law's birthday so it's a special day! It's great that Hayden loves the same sport your mom did.
