I had no idea my confession about Reese's Pieces would generate so much conversation.
I don't know if this is going to help or just make things more confusing.
From what I can gather, it should be said "Resus Peace-us" but I say it like "Re-seas Pe-seas."
Case closed or am I still a dumb, white guy?

How it started

How it ended

Our beloved backyard tree got a makeover and Mrs. Shife and I took it pretty hard.
We loved that tree and it's been there for us since we moved in.
And basically, since the house was built in 1959.
But it was unhealthy and it was unsafe anytime the wind picked up so we had to do it.
It's also not a good idea to watch a movie about someone losing a limb while you are in mourning for your tree that lost a bunch of limbs.
"Soul Surfer" does tug at your heartstrings but Mrs. Shife and I were a little more emotional than usual when we watched that movie with Hayden.

Queen Lucy

Lucy has it tough and I have the pictures to prove it.
We should be hearing from the animal cruelty folks soon about how difficult it is for the lady basset.

There is a very comfortable dog bed on the deck but she has to sit in the patio chairs.
I think she wants to be a little bit taller.

After we finish a meal, she will sneak her way onto the dining room chairs.
Then she will climb on the table looking for crumbs.
Fortunately, she knows her limitations and will whine for us instead of jumping down from the table.

Are you familiar with splooting?
I always called it frog legs but it sounds cooler to sploot.
I mentioned before how much I missed it because Frizz is not a splooter but Lucy sure is and I love it.

Just a basset sitting on a bench for no particular reason at all.

Meme dump

Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. Finally! I now see where we differ on saying Reese's Pieces. Perhaps it is just an Idaho thang!

  2. Lucy is a cute dog but I wouldn't handle her on the table! Thankfully, that's something our dogs seem to have learned. And that spider!

  3. I will say it again, because it's the only candy I eat: Rieces Pieces.
Now, I'm off to sploot ... as soon as Carlos helps me down from the dining table.

    PS
Your de-limbed tree reminds me of the evil tree in Poltergeist. Just saying.

  4. OMG, the tampon question. Yikes. I'm glad you explained about the candy pronunciation. I've never heard it pronounced that way but come to think of it, I rarely hear anyone say those two words together. Lucy is the poster canine for the expression "hangdog." :)

    1. Me either. A lot has changed since I last was owned by a basset.

  6. Well, I don't like Reece's Pieces, so.....
And that basset hound is sneaky. It's genetic, btw. They are ALL sneaky and will wear you down with their I-didn't-do-it stares.
Sorry about the tree! It's always sad when a big tree goes down.

    XOXO

    1. The sneakiest and so far it hasn't got her in too much trouble but we definitely have to be more aware of our surroundings thanks to Lucy.

  7. We call it frog legs, too. Some can do it, some can't. Lucy looks like a sweetie. (I have a Bassett granddog and a Bassett great-granddog)

  8. Lucy is so dang cute! I love her sploot. I’d be sad about the tree, too. We had to remove a pretty crabapple tree near the front of our house to put in a new walkway. It was a bummer.

Great memes again. The corn dog one is hilarious.

  9. Recommendation: don't visit Hershey PA and ask for your kind of candy. Sorry, not a big one for trees, perhaps because I'm always picking up, or cutting down branches. Bassetts truly are a regal hound.

  10. Lucy is a beautiful specimen.

I actively discouraged my cats from getting up on the table, but they did it anyway. I've never seen a dog do it.

    1. She certainly is, Kathy G. And it lets her get away with way too much but I don't care at this point because I just loving having a basset again.

  11. That's quite the brush cut your poor old tree received. But in a couple of years, new little branches and leaves will have sprouted out of the top and it won't be long until it has a nice green hairdo again!

  12. Great pics of Lucy :) We have an old plum tree, half dead, and produces a little fruit when it wants to. Still I would hate to get rid of it, it has so much character.

    1. She is getting totally spoiled because of that face. That dog hit the lottery when it came to finding a home because she is going to get pampered forever.

  14. Yes, my dog is a splooter too. lol
My dog will wait until my grandson is done eating at the table and then go grab any scraps he leaves. But my table is lower to the ground so he just has to stand on his hind legs to get to it. lol

  15. So the real question turned out to be, 'do I say reese's to rhyme with pieces' instead of 'do I say pieces to rhyme with Reese's'. Glad it is sorted, because this was a brain twister. Lucy is adorable. Make sure she knows how lucky she is. In our house, getting on the table would earn her a time out.

    1. Thanks for your understanding and patience, Debby. For someone who writes for a living, you think I could do a better job of explaining things. I also didn't think it would be that interesting to others. Lucy is almost as spoiled as she is adorable so she is doing OK.

  16. One of my cats very comfortably sploots. :D I think he looks ridiculous, but don't let on.
Sad about the tree, but it's understandable that the poor thing needed a massive trim.

  17. I actually understand the pain of losing your tree...I'd plant another one as soon as you can.

  18. I don't think it matters how you say it, just eat them and enjoy; but I will think of you the next time I have some. Though I usually opt for the peanut butter cup itself. That tree looked very damaged, I probably would have cut it down previously and planted a new one. I wonder if it wasn't trimmed well and that caused the problem....it sorta has that look, like someone topped it vs trimmed it which is very hard on a tree, but something that used to be done a lot by tree companies. Are you planning on taking the rest of it down, or perhaps having someone carve something from the stump?

    1. We haven't decided yet what the plan is with the tree, Sandy. It wasn't trimmed well to make it unbalanced and it was also topped. Good observations.
