Thanks, Garth.
I think I just might do that.
Lots of word vomit today.
I keep a running list of topics and it's getting quite long so it is time to release some of them into the wild.
Bear with me as there will be a lack of cohesiveness in the post but that shouldn't surprise anyone if you have been visiting me for a little bit.
So let's go...
  • First and foremost, a very happy birthday to the most wonderful and beautiful person I know, my wife. Whenever  I say "my wife" I always say it like Borat did in his movie in my head.

  • Mrs. Shife is the best. She is talented, amazing, generous, gracious, caring, compassionate, and still likes me after all these years. I never imagined that a blind date almost 25 years ago would lead to this but I am extremely grateful that we crossed paths and made this life together.

  • I changed my avatar from Paul Rudd in the shower to Keanu Reeves being gracious. It just felt like time, and, even though I am a big fan of both of them, I have never watched the movies that these GIFs are from. PR's is from "They Came Together" and KR's is from "Always Be My Maybe."

  • Is it Looney Toons or Looney Tunes?
Well, last week I learned it is Tunes.
I always thought it was Toons because of cartoons but I was wrong.
  • How do you say Reese's Pieces?
Do you say Pieces properly or do you try to make it rhyme and say Peeses?
I have always gone with Reeses Peeses even though it is wrong but it sounds right in my head.

  • What do you think of when you hear MJ the Musical?
I heard someone talking about it and I thought, "That's cool. A Michael Jordan musical."
    Wrong MJ.
    It's about Michael Jackson.
  • It's that time of the year again when I am frightened by little girls.
The Girl Scouts are out in full force pushing their cookie crack on the public.
They used to camp out in front of stores so I would go out of my way to use the other entrance but now they are inside and outside the store so there's now avoiding them.
I feel like Steve McQueen plotting my breakout in "The Great Escape."
I try to avoid eye contact with them but I know they can smell my vulnerability.
Sweet Lincoln's mullet, I need to be strong.
I will not bow to these pint-sized entrepreneurs.
Oh, who am I kidding? Yes, Penelope, I will take 26 boxes of Samoans.

Well, that is all for today.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you are doing fantastic and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. How do you say Pieces?
    I like looking at Keanu.
Be grateful you missed the good old days when Girl Scouts roamed the neighborhoods in gangs, everyone crossing the street (actually, jaywalking) wherever.

    1. Evidently like no one else, Joanne. I say piece and it sounds like peace.

  2. Yeah, the lazy way of selling cookies seems to be the only way these days. Maybe they think it’s safer than going door to door, but that what I did, along with my daughters. I thought it was Toons, too! But I did know MJ was Michael Jackson. He hasn’t been gone that long!

    1. Jordan is just higher up on my pop culture radar, Bijoux.

  3. It's "Looney Tunes" because Warner Bros also produced another cartoon series called "Merrie Melodies" and the musical reference connected the two. Now how's THAT for trivia?

  4. I usually buy some cookies, but I also keep a stash of ones in my wallet. After I have purchased the ridiculously overpriced thin mints, every time a Girl Scout asks me to buy cookies as I leave the store, I say, "No, thanks, but here's a donation for your troop."

Not sure if everyone knows this, but a cookie purchase helps the GS councils and all kinds of employees but not so much the GS troop. A small percentage of each sale goes to the girls, the council takes the rest. Yeah, they pay for the cookies and there's other stuff, but it's still a BIG bite out of the money earned through volunteer labor.

But still... Thin Mints. In the freezer.

  5. You're asking tough questions for so early in the morning... but happy birthday to your wife!

  6. I say Reese's like I say Pieces, so it rhymes.
MJ the musical, no matter which MJ, would be a hard pass, though I imagine the Jordan one less skeevey..

  7. Such a nice birthday tribute to the Mrs. Maybe I should start a list of topics, it might help on days I don't know what to say.

  8. So what is the proper way to say pieces? I say it and peeces (rhymes with Reese's) the exact same way.

I am the opposite of you when it comes to Girl Scouts. They never come to my door, unlike the Boy Scouts which regularly stops to peddle popcorn. I have responded to Facebook adds of friends but have always been too late. They never seem to be at the store I am shopping at. I've gone without their crack cookies for nearly six years... until this year. I finally saw them in front of a drugstore that my wife wanted something at. She told me to stay in the car and don't buy any cookies. I was able to buy two bags full, stuff them in the trunk and they are now out in my garage. My wife thinks I'm just busy building a project out there!

    2. This still troubles me. I say piece and peace exactly the same!

    3. When I say it in my head, it has a c sound like Reece or how Reese Witherspoon says her name. Then it becomes problematic when they become plural. Ree-cease Pee-cease. I didn't realize what kind of conversation this was going to create. Maybe I have taken too many blows to the head.

  9. The way I say Reese's Pieces it rhymes. Hmmm. Happy Birthday to your wife! Hope you have special plans. I'm a fan of Samoas also and can't have them in the house. I did buy some for John and he shared a couple! A whole box wouldn't last long around here.

    1. I could use some Samoas today to help me cope with the kids being home for spring break and our nearly 70-year-old tree getting a big time trim.

  10. Glad we don't get Girl Scouts pushing cookies here in the UK it would be impossible not to buy some. Are they homemade?

I immediately thought of Michael Jackson.

Happy belated Birthday to your wife!

    1. Not even close. As with most things, Girl Scout cookies have diminished in quality over the years. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

  11. As someone who lives about 10 miles from Hershey, PA, maker of Reese's Pieces, Reese's rhymes with Pieces. As a youngster, on 2 separate occasions I toured the Hershey chocolate factory, now they have something called Chocolate World and it's not nearly as interesting. Girl Scouts never come to my door. Here in Central PA they set up little kiosks in malls. I understand they can be quite the cutthroat little ladies. If you do pull the Steve McQueen, make sure Mrs. Shife films you jumping barbed wire fences on a motorcycle.

Hi Mr Shife! How are you not famous yet my friend, oh yeah it's me Phats. I couldn't remember my log in name haha

  14. I think that Keanu Reeves is a good soul. So are you. Real curiousity of how you say the word 'pieces'. I mean this will occupy my mind for the rest of the morning. I only know one way to say it and it DOES rhyme with 'Reeses'. Thank god I do not have to deal with the issue, in that my crack of choice is a dark chocolate Hershey bar. I'm quite comfortable walking past small kids waving cookie sheets at me. You tell them, in a very encouraging voice, "You're doing a GREAT job!" and then you keep on walking. If they ever start selling a dark chocolate cookie with hazelnuts, it might become a bit more difficult.

    1. Thank you, Debby. Anytime I get compared to Keanu is a good day. So I when I say piece it sounds like I am saying peace. Hope that makes sense.

    2. Well, then, how on earth are you saying Reese's???? We have actual families named Reese in our area, and Reese rhymes with Peace, not Jeez.

      Delete
    3. When I say it in my head, it has a c sound like Reece or how Reese Witherspoon says her name. Then it becomes problematic when they become plural. Ree-cease Pee-cease. I need help. Am I making any sense?

      Delete
    4. When there are multiple members of the Reese family about, we call them Reeces, pronounced more like rhesus, the final s pronounced as a z.

  15. My granddaughter and her cousin are both cookie salesgirls. I'll be buying cookies for years to come.

"and still likes me after all these years" That a major accomplishment!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have to think you pronounce Reese's with a z sound instead of an s sound, because if you pronounce it with an s sound, it DOES rhyme with pieces. But I see everybody else got ahead of me with this logic.

Belated happy birthday wishes to your wife. Long may she like you ... although I think you may be understating her feelings :)

I need to start blogging more. I'm so out of practice.

    3. I guess I don't say it weird after all. We are back to how I say Reese's. When I say it in my head, it has a c sound like Reece or how Reese Witherspoon says her name.

Mrs. Shife and I are both March Babies! (she's a Pisces, I'm an Aries, but who's looking?) Please give her a hug for me.

  20. Dang! I've never visited here before, but had to some see what all the Reeses Pieces business is about. My head is spinning!! Actually, I think I understand. The anonymous commenter at Debby's made it clear (to me, at least) with the comparison to Rees-eez Pees-eez. On other things: if I hear MJ, I'm thinking Michael Jackson. And as a former GS cookie chairman, I felt the cookies went totally downhill when they removed all the trans-fats.

  21. I don't here the difference between piece and peace so I think however you say it is right! We have neighbors on both sides of us with girl scouts so the cookie buying has been epic this year! Yum and luckily my hubby eats most of them!
