Howdy February

Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, Happy Groundhog Day! You want a prediction about the weather? You're asking the wrong Phil. I'm going to give you a prediction about this winter? It's going to be cold, it's going to be dark and it's going to last you for the rest of your lives!

Hi there, it's Mr. Shife, Happy Groundhog Day! You want a prediction about the weather? You're asking the wrong Phil. I'm going to give you a prediction about this winter? It's going to be cold, it's going to be dark and it's going to last you for the rest of your lives!

The last few days have been miserable thanks to the cold weather, errrrr, "Polar Vortex" (when did the weather start to sound like wrestling villains?). Fortunately, it looks like it is going to warm up again so Frizz and Lucy will be happy that I will not be yelling at them to hurry up when we go for our walks.
I hope you are staying warm and sane in your corner of the world.
Thanks for stopping by, hope your week is going well and I will talk to you soon.

January challenge update

The challenge was to lose 5 pounds.
Mission not accomplished.
I only lost a little over 2 pounds.
I also went another month without the sauce.
I am up to 95 days now.

February challenge

Try to lose the remaining 2-3 pounds.

Here is Ms. Frizzle's collar for the month:

Here is Ms. Lucy's collar for the month:

Team Lucrizzle

It is not always sunshine and rainbows for Team Lucrizzle. Ms. Frizzle was trying to sleep and Lucy was doing her best Maverick impression by buzzing the tower. The lab was not amused.

What am I watching?

This is what I have on my streaming to-do list:

The Last of Us - Season 1
The Middle - Season 7

Rewatching

Seinfeld - Season 3
Justified - Season 5

Mr. Shife's Book Of The Month Club

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. Yeah it's cold here in the UK too, kinda sick of it now. My challenge is to lose 14 pounds this year, so far I've gained one. Sigh.

  2. I intend to watch "The Last of Us" too. Post-apocalyptic zombie movies are not my usual thing, but this series was shot in the city (Edmonton) and province (Alberta) where I live so I want to check out any familiar landmarks and sites.

    1. Wait until you watch episode 3 when they are supposed to be 10 miles west of Boston. It will definitely look like Alberta and not Massachusetts.

  4. Every once in a while that polar vortex does a little dip and gets us for a few days. But overall, we haven't had much of a winter. It's 40 degrees here and except for the dip tomorrow it will be in the 40s for the next week.

  5. Polar vortex, atmospheric river--what happened to the friendlier cold front and pineapple express? Everything has to be dramatic these days. Snowmaggedon! Snowpocolypse! Glad you're getting some warmer weather and are watching good TV. A 2 pound loss is still great and not a gain at least! Keep on keeping on.

  6. Bummer that giving up the booze isn’t an automatic weight loss prize. It’s horribly cold here right now.

    1. Giving up the booze has driven my sweet tooth into overdrive so that has hindered my weight loss progress

  7. Losing weight is hard. You've done well to lose 2 pounds in a month, and I'm sure you'll be able to lose the rest shortly. Congratulations on another month without the alcohol, too. Your self-discipline always amazes me. Recently I read the statement that self-discipline is like a muscle, the more you use it, the better it becomes, and if you stop using it, it gets weaker. It was kind of a revelation for me. I was blaming my genes, my character, my grief -- but looking at it as a muscle that requires regular use is a game-changer. Your successes are an inspiration to me.

  8. If weight came off as easily as it went on, we would all look like Auschwitz survivors.

  9. We are headed to ColdSnapVille for the weekend, with rain and perhaps some ice in the forecast.
    If it's a choice, I'll take "murder" ... I kid.

  10. I've moved more east, which seems and automatic cold. However, I've dipped below the Ohio/Mississippi watershed, which means a bit warmer, which these old bones will take.

  11. I'm going to make you jealous. My yard's fenced in, so when Biggie and Lilly want out, I just open the back door. Sometimes they're out for a while, even if it's cold. Biggie likes to saunter to the front yard and bark. He needs to make sure the world knows that his name's Biggie, and this is his yard.

    1. We have a fenced yard too, Dave R, and a doggie door too but Ms. Frizzle is spoiled and will only play fetch in the school yard.

  12. Ms Frizzle and I are kindred spirits. That's the kind of look I give when my sleep is interrupted by shenanigans. If someone wakes me up, there needs to be an emergency. If there isn't, I give them a Ms. Frizzle look.

  13. We've been enjoying The Last of Us as well. I would recommend, if you've not already watched, is (a limited series, I believe) called Charlie Cale starring Natasha Lyonne and written and directed by Rian Johnson. It's kinda like Columbo meets the movie-of-the-week with a dash of Rockford Files/Murder She Wrote-ish.

  14. Hey you.
We are having the same cold front you're having, I guess. On Monday we hit below zero. Joy.
And I'm watching The Last Of Us. I do not play the game, but I think Pedro Pascal is delicious, so I'm watching. Episode three got me in my feels.
And one thing about losing weight is that it stalls once you've lost the water. I'd recommend longer walks with the doggies and tons of water any time you feel like eating some pizza.

    XOXO

  17. Is the Last of Us good? Everyone seems to talk about it around the water cooler.

  18. It's finally starting to warm up here which makes it nice to get out and walk. The older we get, the harder it is to lose weight, speaking from experience here.

  19. Congrats on losing those 2 lbs. I know it's not easy. It's been cold here too but not like in other parts of the US.

  20. Good luck on our next 3 pounds. I've not stepped on a scale in awhile, perhaps I should? Perhaps not? Congrats on the 95 days, are you feeling better? A friend of mine did dry January, said she wanted to feel better, sleep better, and lose weight. None of that happened, so she and 2 of her other friends who joined in the challenge of dry January went out to celebrate to bring in Feb. I really enjoy cocktail hour with hubby so no desire to cut that out. We sit and chat without interruptions, no tv etc. It's the best of the day. Sorry about the cold weather, but days are getting longer which is always nice to have more daylight. We left for the winter I'm happy to say and because of that, I feel a lot better towards winter, lol. Stay warm and join me in counting down til Spring.

Cute collars! We have the same type headache you two do! Every other night! lol
We're re-watching 'Doc Martin' and so many movies and series that I lose track.
