Day 7 of my September challenge.

Hayden fulfilled one of your life goals by watching "Jaws."
Kyle had a desire to watch it when he was about her age so she was pretty excited to check it out.
She got scared at a few parts but handled it pretty well.
However, as is usually the case with Hayden, she offered a unique perspective.
As we were getting near the finale where Jaws a.k.a Bruce meets his demise, Hayden started getting upset because they were hurting the shark.
She found the humans so unlikeable that she was actually rooting for Bruce to eat everyone.
If anyone has the director's cut where the shark wins, please let me know.
Speaking of directors, it turns out Hayden wasn't alone in her thoughts.
Steven Spielberg said when he read the book that "Jaws" is based on, he was also rooting for the shark.

Talk to you tomorrow.

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. I don't recall much of this movie but I may need to take a 2nd look because who am I today may just agree with Hayden! I recall the book being very different than the film and I remember vividly that I was quite upset by the the fact that they left so many things out. Small things too. But that was in 75 I think I may have forgotten a few things and now I want to go back and read it. :-)

    1. I think I am done with Jaws unless the kids have a shark renaissance later on in life, Peg. But by then they can watch it without me.

  2. I first saw Jaws as a young boy in the hospital with a severe case of dehydration. At one point I jerked the IV needle completely out of my arm. Good times!

  3. I think I liked Richard Dreyfuss but I wasn't a fan of the film so I only watched it once.

  4. I remember watching it while babysitting (AFTER kids went to bed) because the family had HBO or something. I was terrified.

  6. My grandson just saw it in 3D. He said that it was like being in the water with the shark. And when the shark blew up, he was ducking. PS: None of these things especially excited me, but when you are 11, they are eye-popping excitement, I guess.

  7. I read the book before I saw the movie and I thought the people in town were insufferable.
I think I stopped going to the beach for a year after I saw that movie, BTW.

Hayden is a smart person. Very smart.

    XOXO

  8. when Jaws first came out ..like the second day me and my other and my 3 kids went to see it..Mojo was almost 3...everyone handled it well except me..scared the fuck out of me..we lived right by the beach in Huntington Beach and we went to the beach that weekend and Mojo was running up and down the beach yelling' dit outda da wada, the sharks are going to kill you. I finally had to take her home. she was freaking everyone out...so over the years I have told this story and all 3 of the gg's have heard it. We go to Galveston and Dylan is running up and down the beach, dit outda da wada, the sharks are going to kill you...I was crying I was laughing so hard. I have a feeling when I'm long gone the next generation will be doing the same.

  9. I read the book before ever seeing the movie. The book was depressing and soap operaish with the shark being the only interesting character in it. The movie got the Spielberg touch, and everyone was much more likeable. I own it on DVD (yes, DVD) and watch it for the chemistry between the actors. I love the movie. I saw it when it first came out. I was pregnant with my first son, and the theater was so packed we had to sit in the front row. Junior did a lot of kicking during that movie! I walked out of the theater expecting to get attacked by a shark in the parking lot.

  10. Like Hayden, I'd be rooting for the shark (now) as well. That film did much to keep me out of large bodies of water for some time, btw.
