What's Next?

This really is turning into the July of my discontent.
I am not ready to wave a white flag yet but it is sitting in my Amazon shopping cart.
New items to add to the list for this month: muscle strain in my back, scratch on my cornea and saying goodbye to Rocky.
  • I was doing the leg press at the gym and I felt something tweak in my back. Fortunately, it only hurts when I sit, stand, walk or lie down.
  • In an effort to forget about my back pain, I somehow scratched my cornea. Fortunately, it only hurts when I open or close my eye.
  • And then there was Rocky. Oh my goodness, he was such a great dog and loved Hayden from the moment he met her but no matter how Mrs. Shife and I thought about making it work, it just wasn't going to work. Trust me, I really wanted it to happen because I didn't enjoy hearing my daughter cry herself to sleep but Rocky needed a home that could give him the attention he needs every single day and we just couldn't commit to that right now. Fortunately, we found a couple who fosters dogs and they fell in love with Rocky just like we did so they took him on a trial period and things are working out great for the little fluff bomb.
  • Rocky left us with many happy memories in his short stint with us but one thing we will not miss is the mess he started to make with Ms. Frizzle. After a few days, the two of them began playing more and eventually started having tug-o-wars with Frizzle's stuffed animals.
  • I haven't been to this Brazilian Grill restaurant in awhile and it looks like that streak is in no immediate danger. Before we met the foster couple, I was searching for rescue centers or other facilities where Rocky might call home and the restaurant showed up as one of the options.

  • So that is what has been happening in my world since I last talked to you. I am hanging in there and trying to maintain my sense of humor as well as some positivity because there's no point in doing the opposite. Hope all is well in your corner of the world, take care and I'll talk to you soon.

Meme dump

I will persevere.
I will keep moving forward.
I will be the stream.

  1. Well, those were some obscene memes to conclude with! A scratched cornea? How did THAT happen? I’m really freaked about Brazilian Grills now.

Ugh, I hate months like you're having. A sense of humour is definitely needed, but so is a way to vent now and then. Your sense of humour is certainly intact; please vent here any time and know that we'll listen. That had to be a very hard choice about Rocky, but in the long run it will be less stressful for everyone including doggo. Take care of that back and your cornea, and for goodness' sake be careful out there! Maybe get some bubble wrap and roll yourself up in it??

  3. I'm glad that the Rocky situation had a happy resolution. What a mess two dogs can make! Important lessons were learned about the old adage-we can make it work. Because we can't always. Your back and eye, ugh! I hope they heal up fast. Perhaps August will be better? I will remain optimistic.

  4. First off ... ouch, my back .... and ouch, my eye ... and ouch, my heart at Rocky leaving, though hopefully he found a good home and not a steak house!

Take care, fell better, the end of July is in sight.

  8. Oh, sweetie, never ever ask what's next! You may get an answer! I once threw my back out brushing my teeth. I feel your pain. Oh, the horrors of dog toy wars! I certainly hope August will be a better month for you.

  9. Good heaven's Mr. Shife, I think you've had quite enough excitement lately! You did right by Rocky, that was the loving thing to do even though Hayden didn't see it that way :( I like the bubble wrap idea.

  10. Your July sounds like my last year. Hurt my back, broke my leg, 3 months in bed, rehabbing since Christmas. But who's counting. Glad you have a solution to the Australian sheep dog. No, Haley wasn't it.

  12. Rocky was going to be an issue right from the start. Chalk it up as a painful learning experience. Actually, one the best things to do for back issues is to walk, walk, and then walk some more; this is the voice of experience talking here.

  13. All joking aside, some dogs are meant for nonstop active lifestyles. If you had this problem during the summer, it would have been disastrous leaving the dog when the kids went back to school. As a side note, I knew someone who had a husky in an apartment. He came home from work to discover the dog had eaten the arm off his sofa. Poor Hayden's heart will go on as she comes to realize that you made the decision that was in the best interest of Rocky.

    1. It's like you read our minds, Debby. We were really worried how he would behave once Hayden was back in school. He is in a better home now.

  15. I thought Rocky was cute but yeah, Good call. I'm sure the kiddos understood. And he's with a cool foster family! That living room with pieces of toy was going to be your life from Rocky on.
Sorry about the cornea! My manfriend once got one (he went to the beach and a grain of sand messed his eye!) He was wearing a pirate eye patch for two weeks. He looked good.
And I feel you with the back. I think you need to visit a chiropractor. I had one work miracles on mine when I threw it off a few years back.

    XOXO

  16. Oh, man. That's quite a lot for one month! The toy tussle left a bit of a mess in its wake. Good that Rocky is making strides at the fosters' place. Sorry to read that his absence was hard on Hayden, but that is understandable. He looks like a sweetie-pie.

  18. I’ve been places where dogs are sometimes consumed when times are tough and I can’t guarantee I’ve never eaten one but I wouldn’t do so intentionally. The nice thing about kid tears is that they rarely last very long and they bounce back must easier than us adults.

  22. The memes cracked me up Glad to hear you found a suitable home for Rocky and hope your daughter adjusts. I would not want the mess. Sorry to hear about your booboo's. Recently have had a few myself, so I relate. Sadly, they seem to happen too much these days. July is over, so hopefully August will be a better month for you!
