Hello February

Greetings and salutations February!
Here are some updates from the Shifleys:
  • The February challenge is no Amazon orders. We got a little carried away in January so I apologize in advance to the bottomline of Mr. Bezos if things fall a little short this month.
  • Despite getting COVID again, the January challenge (Handymanuary) went well. We put up a new dining room light, we patched some holes in the kitchen and bar area, we cleaned and patched up some kitchen tiles, we organized my tool drawers, we removed several layers of bathroom paint, we fixed Hayden's bedroom light, and we put together a new shelf.
  • And finally, here is Frizzle's February collar. The theme is space and it seems appropriate because she is out of this world. Plus she has been having a hard time focusing lately, she keeps spacing out. What's that? You want another terrible outer space pun. OK. You asked for it. I sent all of Frizzle's selfies to NASA because she is a star.

The 47 Days of Christmas

Do you have any holiday decorations up?
We still have our outside lights running.
Only 9 1/2 more months and then I'll be the guy that I used to make fun for leaving his lights up all year.
I have been in no hurry to get them down because it has been so cold here but now that it is warming up a bit, they need to come down this weekend.
It will be an early Valentine's Day gift to my lovely wife, Mrs. Shife.

What I am watching?

Since I don't read that much, this is what's keeping me occupied while I make my way through the February Funks and dream of spring.

Chuck - Season 4 - Kyle and I are watching this
Modern Family - Season 8 - Hayden and I are watching this
1883 - Season 1
This Is Us - Season 6
The Righteous Gemstones - Season 2
Raised by Wolves - Season 2
Ozark - Season 4
Euphoria - Season 2
Welcome To Earth - Season 1
After Life - Season 3
Amazing Race - Season 33

I am better than I was. I will be better than I am.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. Euphoria is too weird for me. It must be Zendaya's long legs. You are full of mysteries!

  2. Our Christmas lights came down the week after New years because that's how we roll. And, of course, it was 24-degrees the day we did it.

I love Ms. Frizzle's collar. That's all. I got no space jokes.

    1. Thanks for making me look bad, Bob. =) I expect a space joke in return to make me feel better.

  3. Love Ms Frizzle's new collar. Did you finish After Life yet? Apparently my thoughts on the ending and the meaning are so off the mark. I would love to know what you thought!!

    1. Thanks, Peggy. I did finish After Life. I had no idea that this was the final season so I wasn't ready for it but kind of saw it coming when everyone was at the fair. I got a little sad when he was walking off and Brandi disappeared. I enjoyed the ending. I liked how all of the characters seemed to have found someone or were moving on with their life. I also felt he Ricky (Tony) was saying enjoy life while you can because it only lasts for a little bit in the grand scheme of things and life goes on without us. What were your thoughts?

  4. Ah Christmas lights. Maybe next season. Maybe not.

  5. How do you remove layers of paint and why? My husband talked me into watching this season’s Amazing Race. I think it’s boring, but I’m trying.

    1. I usually just scrape away the top layer, Bijoux, but this time I got a heat gun and got all the way down to the original wood. I removed at least 3 coats of paint. One was pink, which will not be making a comeback in our bathroom,

    2. Ohhhhh..I was thinking paint on walls! Woodwork, I understand!

  6. Frizzle knows all about Belka and Strelka and is no doubt concerned about the rest of your plans for the month of February. She does not see this as a joking matter.

    1. I had to look up those names, Debby. I was only familiar with Laika the Soviet space dog. And I will reassure Ms. Frizzle that she is in good hands and all of my wonderful blogging friends are looking after her.

  7. I've noticed Americans keep their Christmas lights up outside much longer than we do in the UK. I always think that's quite cool, but now I realise it's because you get much more snow than we do and it's just too cold to get them down. :D

  8. OMG I love Euphoria. Totally addicted to it.
Raised by wolves is such a bizarre, compelling show...
And yes, getting down those xmas lights will be really appreciated it. I guarantee that.
    Handymanuary? Fantastic.

    XOXO

    1. Raised by Wolves is so compelling to me because of Travis Fimmel (Caleb). He has such an unorthodox acting style and really has a presence. He also played Ragnar on the Vikings.

  9. So glad Handymanuary went well. I think I'm going to start declaring January Handymanuary too! We don't put up Christmas lights anymore because I can't do ladders and my unhandy man never gets around to taking them down - I really don't want to be "those people." Love Ms. Frizzle's cool new collar. Could I offer you a slice of banana meatloaf?

    1. I think I am going to stick with Handymanuary as well. A slice sounds good, Martha. I imagine there is way to make it delicious but mom went overboard with the bananas because they were about to go bad.

  10. I designed our exterior light system to require just a long stick to get them down after Christmas so generally I can withstand the 15 minutes of poking at them it takes to put them up for the year. I need to refine the hanging process which takes a couple hours though.

Of all those you listed, I only watch the Ozark and the Amazing Race. Perhaps that is why I go through quite a number of books during this time of year.

    1. You are better off sticking with the books, Ed.

  11. I keep forgetting they made What We Do In the Shadows a TV series. I love that movie. There are some funny lines in it.

  12. Frizzle's space collar is awesome!
Wreath still on the front door. 1 ft artificial green tree that I added fairy lights to is sitting near my laptop. Red/white bottle brush tree on my dresser. Only have those trees out because I saw them recently at Michaels and couldn't resist 70% off.
    Ozark is very good!

    1. Thanks, CC. I think we get a pass this year if we leave our decor out a little longer than usual.

  14. Every year we put up less lights so it's quite easy to get them down. After Life-loved it and will miss it. Ozark was off the charts! Wish I could watch 1883 :( Only watch the Amazing Race because I follow Kim/Penn on FB. Good for you for getting that much done; I feel like we are going backwards in our house.

  15. Thin Mints are one of my favorite cookies. I do google numbers that call me and don't leave a message. Ozark is so good this season. And I always promise myself that I won't watch This Is Us, but it pulls me right back in every time, and I cry at least once during each episode. What We Do in the Shadows--an absolute favorite of mine. I was told there is a movie. I have not looked for it yet. But I will find and watch it too.

  16. You got a lot done in Handymanuary! (HoneyDoYouary?) We're having our tiny bathroom spruced up. -started to demo it ourselves and then gave up because we don't actually know what we are doing in that arena.

The Feb. Frizzle collar looks mighty fine.

  18. If I risked life and limb to put Christmas Lights up outside I think I'd want an extended Christmas. Some of our Neighbors keep their Icicle dripping Lights up throut Winter, it substitutes for no Snow in a Desert, I happen to like seeing them 'til Spring rolls around.

  19. I want to join in that class action lawsuit against Thin Mints! One year in Michigan, with a north facing house and a whole lot of snow, our outdoor lights weren't retrievable until late in April, having been buried in the bushes under 4-5 feet of hardened snow.

  20. Love the guy with the pickax! I had to learn about ice fishing for my next book and was disappointed to find out that power augers are very popular for making the hole in the ice. No way is a 12" auger going to make a hole big enough to shove a body through, so it's going to be chainsaw time on Mackinac Island. And I don't do Christmas decorations, indoor our out.

    1. I am thinking cutting a hole in the ice with a chainsaw would be pretty awesome. Just for fun. Not to shove a body through.

  21. Wow you watch a lot of TV. I've not even heard of some of those on your list. We loved Ozarks though. Had to laugh seeing the ice pool, can imagine some people feel that way. Enough already bring on the Spring. We're cheating, as we left Ohio to not deal with it and are enjoying sunnier weather in Hilton Head. We've got a few more weeks, so hoping by the time we return to Ohio, it moves onto Spring. Fingers crossed. You got a lot done around the house in January. Can I send you a list of things that need doing at my place!! We don't still have Christmas lights up. Didn't really put up much this year. Do less it seems each year.

My Christmas decorations stayed up until the middle of January because we were too sick to take them down.
