Oops, I did it again
I played with my odds, got lost in the social distancing game
Oh baby, baby
Oops, I thought I was still immune
That means self-isolating from the attic above
I'm not feeling that magnificent
Oh how I have waited for the day to write a parody of "Oops... I Did It Again" to let my wonderful and ridiculously good-looking blogging audience know that some of the Shifleys tested positive for COVID. Again.
It is pretty interesting the thoughts that enter my head when I'm lying still for my acupuncture treatments and left with only my imagination to keep me entertained.
Anyway, I guess I jinxed myself last week with all of the COVID recovery talk.
A few days after our sledding and hot springs trip, we tested positive and had to quarantine for 5 days.
Everyone had mild symptoms.
I think the worst part of it was Kyle and Hayden dealing with the boredom of being inside that long.
It was cold and gray outside so getting outdoors wasn't much of an option.
After getting tired of reading books, playing board games, cooking, gaming and watching shows/movies, they came up with a new game to help pass the time.
They called it "venting."
I don't know what you call them in your part of the world - floor vents or registers or grills - but the kids would talk to each other through the floor vents and it made them happy for a really long time.
The photo below is of Hayden listening to Kyle tell her why I smell like taco meat and aftershave or more likely talking about how they are going to slyly manipulate their parents to letting them stay up late to watch their favorite shows.
The kids went back to school a few days ago and I took a sick day because I was so stinking' tired again but other than that, we are doing good and hanging in there.
So that was our week.
How are things going for you?
I hope all is well and you don't run into any mean ducks.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.
I'm just glad I'm not that duck with no hands to wash my bill/beak and wondering how long I was going to have to smell that dog's shit on my face.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Deletewell crap.....this why I don't go any where...fuck people...hope you get to feeling better soon..
ReplyDeleteI had a softball meeting at a bar and I am pretty sure that is where it happened.
Deletewell duh..
DeleteI am not a smart man.
DeleteCovid is one insidious bastard. Hope you feel better soon. A dog getting goosed by a duck? Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deedles.
DeleteAgain already? That’s crazy, especially since your activities were outdoors? But who knows where you or the kids picked it up. Feel better!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bijoux.
DeleteDang! That seems very unfair but I'm glad it's now (mostly?) behind you.
ReplyDeleteYes it is, Margaret.
DeleteYou have to be careful...

I hear ya, Mike.
DeleteWell hell. Sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary.
DeleteThat's a shame! Venting... that's cool. Hopefully the antibodies you build this time will last longer.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, Dave.
DeleteWhat a great (grate) game.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago my oldest daughter was two years old. She walked up behind our cat and classically goosed him. "Hole" she announced. The cat was not her friend for a long time.
That will create some trust issues.
DeleteNot the best way to get to rewrite Britney's hit, right?
ReplyDeleteAnd I've heard of other people who have gotten it even when they're vaccinated. My fav YouTube science scholar got it, too. Omicron is a bad b*tch and super contagious.
Glad everybody got a mild case of it. I'm back to the office and I'm slightly paranoid. I look like a ninja everywhere I go because I refuse to take my mask off.
XOXO
Hope the office re-integration is going well. I would be a ninja too.
DeleteI think this will become the norm and it will eventually stop being a blip on anyone's radar. I certainly don't take it into consideration when planning a trip.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It is now part of our life for the very foreseeable future.
DeleteThat looked like a goose to me! You know, you're the second batch of folk I know of that has gotten Covid for the second time. I'd been wondering about that.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at 'venting'. That's hilarious.
The kids keep me entertained.
DeleteThat seriously sucks! I'm glad the cases are mild and hope everyone recovers quickly.
ReplyDeleteI'll be cracking up over the mean duck all day lol.
Thank you, Martha.
DeleteGet better. I was sure I had commented.
ReplyDeleteI like the game venting! It makes me think of that game I played as a kid "telephone". Two cups connected by a string. My Aunt and Uncle got us these play phones that were actually connected by real wires. It could go between our bedrooms. And it worked. I thought I was so cool.
I remember that game, JM.
Delete"taco meat and after shave" LMAO!!!! Hopefully, not Old Spice. So many people are getting it twice. I'm still living the old way; lock down, and no one allowed in the house! I don't know how I would handle it if I were your children's age.
ReplyDeleteI think your strategy is a smart one, Jimmy.
DeleteLeave it to kids to keep themselves entertained. I'm sorry you did it again, that sucks. You missed my post when we all got it in Sept. Tony felt the worst and slept a lot. I felt like I had a bad cold, Faith had mild symptoms. Thank God for vaccines though!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Shife are feeling like we have bad colds, kden. The kids bounced back super quickly.
DeleteOh, ugh - sorry to hear about the second go-round of covid. I wonder where your antibodies from the first bout disappeared to? Anyway. Glad you're all feeling better. You're lucky (and I credit good parenting as well as luck) that your kids get along. It makes those times you need to be together a much better experience. Take care, Mr. S and all the S family
ReplyDeleteI think the antibodies were vacationing somewhere warmer, jenny_o.
DeleteIt's a constantly shifting virus. That's the thing that pisses me off the most... you CAN get it again. And again and again and again.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your family seems to be recovering okay.
I used to talk to my brothers through the laundry chute. We figured out that we could actually fit into it and go down to the basement from the bathroom. It became a game to freak Mom out... go to the bathroom, lock the door, disappear.
She did not find it funny.
It is the gift that keeps on giving and I am not a fan.
DeleteI'm so sorry you're having a rerun of The Rona. Glad all the Symptoms were Mild tho'. I'm still recovering from my serious bout with it, doing the Dance with the Virus once is enough for me, but hopeful I built up stronger immunity after having it? I'm all vaxxed, boosted and all but this is a tricky little Parasitic Devil isn't it? Keeps reinventing itself and we're just trying to keep pace with it and not be willing Hosts... well, some of us... Covidiots still abound around these parts so spread is still embarrassingly high. May everyone have a full recovery and no lingering complications.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate it, Bohemian.
DeleteSo sorry you're all going through another round of Covid. The family outing no doubt was the cause. You just can't trust when you're around other people. You can't trust that they've been vaccinated, or that they've been careful, or that they're wearing a mask correctly when and if they wear one. It's all so very tiring. Knock on wood, so far so good for hubby and I and our daughter as well. We're still staying away from groups. The only socializing we've done is in small groups and even then we try to keep our distance. We've just for the 1st time since Covid began gone out to eat. We've gone out as the restaurant is opening so hardly anyone is there. We gone out now 3 x in the past month. Keep hoping more and more people will get vaccinated to help with this global pandemic so we can get past it. Glad to hear your symptoms were mild. Have a friend that's still dealing with issues 7 months later, so sad for her. She was vaccinated, but didn't do well when she got it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandy. Hope your friend starts feeling better.
