2021 Thanksgiving Recap

How was your Turkey Day?
Did you feel like Flipper up there?
I wasn't as ambitious as the portly porpoise but I definitely kept my elastic waistband on high alert.

My favorite dish this year was sourdough stuffing.
I am a big fan of stuffing and sourdough agrees with me a lot better than other bread products.
The pies were a big hit as well.
Apple, pineapple and pumpkin were made by Mrs. Shife, Kyle and Hayden.
And they were delicious.
The pecan pie was store bought.
And it wasn't delicious.
Disappointing because I have really enjoyed pecan pie over the last several years.

The next day the kids got together with some of their friends to play football.
Originally, the adults were going to play but I think the kids saw how pathetic we looked trying to squeeze into our athletic gear and let us off the hook.
They also probably didn't want to spend a portion of the day in the urgent care while their parents got their torn hamstrings looked over.
So the adults just sat around a fire watching them play and drinking adult beverages.
A win-win if you ask me.

We also checked out a movie in 4D.
If you are unfamiliar with that experience then let me share some visuals to help explain:

Your seat moves a lot especially during action sequences and then they have strobe lights, wind machines, fog, a water mister and scents.
I was really grateful that there were no farting scenes in the movie.

Kyle and I got a little motion sickness but other than that, we really enjoyed it.
Then we got the house ready for Christmas.
Only 23 more days until the big guy shows up.

Hope your week is going well.
Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I am better than I was. I will be better than I am.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. I have never heard of pineapple pie, but it sounds good! Sourdough stuffing is also new to me. I feel as though I experienced a ‘ride’ like that 4D movie at Disney World once. Was not a fan!

    1. If that is the case then I would advise against the 4D movie experience.

  2. What a lovely tree! No tree for us this year because of a certain 6 month old fuzzy butt. I'm not sure if 4D and me would be a good match; just the movement itself would make me sick. Glad you enjoyed it though. Hasn't this weather been great? We'll be heading into winter soon though :(

    1. The weather has been nice but you are right about winter unfortunately.

  3. 4D??? That might get me back in the theater.

And, just asking, but did the kids "let" you off the hook on the football or what is some kind of Parental Drinking Plot?

I usually make cornbread stuffing, but I may look into the sourdough thing,

    1. The drinking was going to happen regardless but the kids got tired of waiting for us. They had more fun without us anyways.

  4. Thanksgiving was nice and quite... no sports. Plenty of turkey, in fact I'm still eating turkey, so are the dogs. I've never heard of 4D movies. I guess dramas would be rather boring.

    1. Glad you had a nice and quiet Thanksgiving, Dave R. I am not sure how they would incorporate 4D into some dramas but I am sure they will try.

  5. That 4D film would make me very motion sick. I couldn't even handle the 3D ones. I love the idea of sourdough stuffing--one of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes made even better. I've never heard of pineapple pie. Hmmm. I'm a fan of pecan pie but didn't get any this year.

  7. 3D movies give me a headache. 4D? No thanks.

  8. By my count, that's one pie per person at your house - and that sounds like a good ratio :)

Hard to believe it's so close to Christmas, isn't it?

  9. Ohh Thanksgiving was good. And I love pineapple pie. I did not eat too much but it was delicious. I helped prepare (read: I chopped stuff) some of the things we ate. And I love the tree! It looks very festive.

    XOXO

  10. Pineapple pies? What will they think of next.

4D movies? I can't stand 2D movies. Two many individually wrapped candies that get unwrapped one at a time the entire movie in the row behind me with periodic blindings by phone backlighting from the rows ahead of me.

I love stuffing. My wife made the best stuffing of my life this past Thanksgiving. She is already saying she wants to try cornbread stuffing next year. I'm not looking forward to it. Perhaps I can angle for sourdough stuffing which sounds better than cornbread.

    1. Start the campaign for sourdough stuffing now, Ed. It is so worth it.

  11. I'm not sure I need 4 dimensions to my movies. I didn't eat a Thanksgiving dinner and I feel much wiser for it. :)

  12. Well, I supposed since you're not a Southerner, you can get away with store-brought pecan pie. Otherwise, you'd be a heretic. And they're pretty simple to make with lots of pecans and both light and dark karo syrup.

  13. Noooo thank you on the 4D. I am able to do some amusement park type rides, but when in Disney many years ago a virtual reality experience made me feel so sick, and other theme things were problematic. I sometimes get dizzy just watching certain scenes on regular t.v. so gotta pass on all that. I've had pesky motion sickness since I was a kid... a long, long time ago. lol
Thanksgiving sounded like an enjoyable family fun and feast day! We ate with friends at their house. Just 5 of us, but it was quite nice.

  14. I've never heard of pineapple pie, but I do love pineapple...I will have to look that up and see what's up. The kids definitely let you guys off the hook, haha. Glad you enjoyed it!

  16. The tree looks great!
Turkey Day came and went. I made grub for two and we ate it in front of the boob tube.
Bummer about the store bought pie. :(

  17. I over ate. I enjoy the side dish stuffing the most. My favorite part of the meal. Sad that the pecan pie was not enjoyable. It's my favorite of all pies.
