Solo parenting
Mrs. Shife has been out of town since last Wednesday.
Seven days and six nights for those of you scoring at home.
She went to help out her mom with her recovery from hip surgery.
She gets back today.
And we have missed her.
Daddington Island is in need of reinforcements.
Kyle and Hayden are great kids but it is tough work doing everything by yourself.
I am looking forward to telling them, "Go ask your mother."
Football is life
Hayden had her first football practice last week.
As you can see from the photo below, she was pretty excited about it.
The excitement didn't last too long as I was asked to helped out the coach during practice.
I must've called her "honey" about 6 times when she was going through the drills with her teammates.
After practice, I was informed by Hayden that I was fired.
Again for those of you scoring at home, my football coaching career lasted 1 hour.
School report
First week of school went pretty good.
Kyle is adjusting well to junior high and said he is "content."
If you know Kyle, then this is high praise.
Hayden took a day or two to get used to her new classroom and classmates but she is also doing well.
Ms. Frizzle is having the hardest time getting acclimated to our new routine.
She really misses the kids.
Especially Kyle.
She spends most of the day lying on his bed until he gets home from school.
LOL
I needed a good laugh this week and I got it from an episode of "Brooklyn 99."
Sergeant Jeffords: Hey, Boyle. How you doing there, bud?
Charles: I'm fine. I'm great.
Sergeant Jeffords: Well, I hear your mouth say that, but the rest of your head is telling a different story. Feels like the stress of the upcoming trial is starting to get to you.
Charles: Oh, is this about my hair turning white?
Sergeant Jeffords: Yes, definitely.
Charles: It's not just the head hair. It's all of it. All. Of. It.
Sergeant Jeffords: I get it.
Charles: It's like an Eagles concert down there. Nothing but whites.
Sergeant Jeffords: Understood. You got white pubes.
Dumping of the memes
Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.
I am better than I was. I will be better than I am.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.
Thank god for wives coming back home!
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteEagles concert! Oh that it my sagging funny bone!
ReplyDeleteMine too, Deedles.
DeleteGlad Mrs.S is coming home
ReplyDeleteand MIL is okay. So you got fired, eh?
In the low 80s here so we are happy!
xoxo :-)
Enjoy the cooler weather, AK.
DeleteWelcome home Mrs. Shife! I hope her mother is doing well. Congratulations to you for taking on the first week of school by yourself! I'm sure Kyle and Hayden will have lots to tell her about the start of school. Ms. Frizzle looks so depressed lying there on Kyle's bed. I bet she gets excited when the kids come home each day. I love the memes, especially the pallet one!
ReplyDeleteHer energy level certainly spikes when they return, Bonnie.
DeletePerseverance is good, though I don't know if being the stream is all it's cracked up to be.
ReplyDeleteIt helps keep me going in the right direction, Dave R.
Deleteoh these memes were good. And poor Ms Fizzle. I can see why she would hates this new routine, and can you blame her? Her best buddy isn't around and she doesn't know why!
ReplyDeleteOur move is so hard on my lab. She is a bit anxious. Then again, it could be from our energy. But when she saw all her toys being packed she wasn't happy. (We left her some to take)
Hayden is awlfully cute and I have a feeling a character, "your fired dad" Love it.
Can you believe in 1960 a woman did all this in a day and had a great dinner on the table. How did our moms do this without a father who shared in child rearing and household chores? I didn't thank my mom enough!
We were definitely spoiled by our moms.
DeleteYou definitely need a good dose of Mrs. Shife! I hope her mother is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAll is well, Joanne. Thank you.
DeleteI've used that last meme. They should the anti-vaxers to a landfill.
ReplyDeleteWorks for me, Mike.
DeleteThat sounds like a great reality show "Dad Island" Each father is assigned two kids. The kids have the right to fire him at will for transgressions like calling them "hon" in front of other kids. There's a prize at the end for the last dad standing.
ReplyDeleteMF looks depressed at her new circumstances. She might need some therapy to help her with the transition.
Welcome home, Mrs. Shife!
I like that reality show idea, Debby.
DeletePoor Ms. Frizzle! And yes, solo parenting is not easy. Hope Mom comes back soon. The last meme is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteShe came back just in time, Bijoux.
DeleteHahaha
ReplyDeleteSo you've been missing Mrs. Shife, huh? It's incredible how much our better halves are part of our lives. Glad the kiddos are taking well to the school changes. It can be a little disconcerting at that age.
And I was just thinking how pets are going to react when everybody goes back to work. Right now the two terrors who live in this house have literally 24/7 attention. It'll be hard when we both go back to work. Which could take another year, for what I've heard about the masses of MAGAts refusing to get vaccinated.
Love Brooklyn 99. So underrated. And what they say about the comments section is soooo true!
XOXO
She is definitely the better half, Sixpence. I will take another year working from home. B99 is the best.
Delete"Your fired", that's funny! Poor Ms. Frizz, it's so hard on pets after their people have been home for so long. Thanks for the reminder to watch BB99. Stole a few meme's!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, kden. Enjoy the memes.
DeleteYou called her "Honey"? The nerve; you should'a been fired.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the Missus doing after a week of no "Ask your mother"s.
Lastly, "It's like an Eagles concert ... or a Thoing 45 rally ... down there."
I am such an asshole, Bob.
DeleteCoaching is a thankless job. Either the kids give you crap or the parents do. Mostly it is the parents.
ReplyDeleteCan confirm, Bathwater.
DeleteThe comments section--LOL! That was a great one, although ouch. Solo parenting is indeed difficult. Even at 65 with daughters who are 35 and 31, it's tough. There were many things that my late husband was better at than I.
ReplyDeleteI can relate, Margaret. Mrs. Shife does certain things way better than me.
DeleteI'm glad your wife is coming back today. Make sure you tell her how much she was missed. I hope her moms hip heals soon. I had to do the same thing when my mom broke her pelvis. Poor Ken was calling me everyday.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Mary.
DeleteThe kids have to be excited to see their Mom too! Love me some Brooklyn 99. My partner loved Brooklyn 99. I can't remember what I called it a couple times and it would make him giggle (Maybe Brooklyn 911 or something like that?).
ReplyDeleteNine Nine!
DeleteSingle Parenting is indeed tough, glad Mrs. Shife came back to Rescue you! So, you got fired from Coach Duty... don't they understand it's your Job to embarrass them every chance you get? *winks* Wait 'til she's a Teen, she'll be mortified of every lame thing you allegedly do or say! I LIVE for those moments, it's great leverage, Princess T will line up in a Heartbeat if she imagines I'll become a Spectacle on Purpose. *smiles* Eli the Kitten also misses her terribly while she's away at School.
ReplyDeleteGood advice, Bohemian. Thank you.
DeleteI hope your mother-in-law is recovering well from her surgery. I know she'll appreciate your wife being with her to help with everything. And trust me, your wife appreciates you taking on everything at home so she can help her mom. It's an eye-opener parenting alone, though, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSomething worse than calling your daughter hon is calling her by your own name. (Yes, indeedy, I have done that.) Or calling the other kids on her team hon. That probably wouldn't be too popular either :)
Glad the kids are getting a good start at school. Makes life easier all around. And give Mz Frizzle a good scritch from her internet admirers, okay?
Thanks as always, jenny_o. And Ms. Frizzle thanks you as well.
DeleteAbby is supposed to play football too. I can't wait. I hope there was flowers, candy and a diamond bracelet waiting for her when she got home.
ReplyDeleteHope Abby is enjoying football as much as Hayden.
