The Need For Speed

What's making me happy

Hayden's determination.
She has an inner fire that drives her.
She wanted to hit 13 mph on the sign and she did it.
I had no idea if 13 mph was fast but based on my half-assed internet research (I swear one time I will go full-assed), if you run 15 mph then you can run a 4-minute mile.
We have a long way to go before we get anywhere near that milestone but with her determination.. maybe.
The greatest oak was once a little nut that held its ground.
Hayden has been focused on running lately because she is training with a group called "Girls on The Run" after school and they have a 5k race this week.
I will let you know how she does.

Updates

I hit another out-of-the-park home run.
If I am not careful they might test me for performance enhancing drugs.
I don't think Pabst Blue Ribbon falls under that category.
Is it wrong that PBR is my favorite beer?
Never in a million years would I have thought that to be true.
I hated PBR in college.
I thought it was beneath me.
And this is coming from a guy who was drinking Rainier and Keystone Light back then.

Observations

Mrs. Shife and I found a new mineral water we like called Topo Chico.
Do you notice anything about the illustration?
If you said side boob then you saw what I saw every time I opened the fridge.
I am just not sure how important the side boob is to telling the story of Topo Chico.
But I am telling you about it so I guess it is working.

Do you notice anything about the buffalo shirt?
I know it screams "What were you thinking, Mr. Shife?" but does anything else stand out?
If you guessed that you can see his buffalo soldier then you know why I returned this shirt.
It's also another good reminder to not go shopping on Amazon after midnight.

Furball of the Week

Go Out on a Meme

I will try and do better.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

Comments

  1. Looks like you are not the only persevering one in the family. Go Hayden!

  2. When I read the title I thought video games, Hayden and her 13 mph is better. I don't know that your son would agree. It's great that she's in the running group, she can do anything she sets her little mid to do. Kids rock!

Don't feel bad about the PBR. I've been drinking plain old Budweiser since before I was drinking age, it's still my favorite. It's no longer looked at as a good beer by the younger crowd - The bunch of little beer snobs with all their craft beer.

You always find the funniest stuff!

    1. I haven’t had a Budweiser heavy in a long time.

  3. GO HAYDEN!
I don't drink beer; spouse's fave is miller lite.
side boob & buffalo wang-dang-doodle - OH MY!
    I like the last meme.
and the poor doggy - OUCH!

  4. Hey there, Hayden!!!!
Congrats on your second home run!
    xoxo :-)

  5. I would frame that first picture of a little girl and her bouncing hair and her shadow and her feet off the ground. Put it on your desk and be inspired every day.
I hope that dog survived. Sure looks like cervical damage to me.

  6. Good on Hayden.
Reminds me of an old joke: my grandmother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 86; she just turned 95 and we have no idea where the hell she is!
I prefer a chilly Stella Artois with no side boob or Buffalo wienie.
I've had days like that dog!

  7. Congratulations to Hayden! That girl is going places and not just "on the run" either. I can easily see both of your kids being quite successful in their futures. Another out-of-the-park home run? I'm telling you - the big leagues are looking for you!

  8. I'm amazed that the radar picked her up on the sidewalk. How fast does she have to go to make it register?

  9. Look at Hayden running, I'm impressed!
Whoever designed that t-shirt wasn't thinking, I do like it though, apart from the dick part. :D

  10. The photo of your daughter reminds me of my son and the neighbor kids who would ride their bikes as fast as possible next to a speed monitoring device that the police put in our neighborhood for 2 weeks every summer.

  11. Whenever I heard the Top Gun soundtrack song come on as a young man, I lowered the seat back in my severely engine deficient Honda Civic, punched the gas and see if I could get it up past 65 in a reasonable amount of time. It was my need for speed.

I can't believe you returned that shirt. I hope you get a buffalo with teats and a nursing calf as a replacement.

I have a lot worse things to look at than side boob when I open my fridge. Lucky man!

    1. I did something similar in a brown Toyota Corolla.

  12. Wow, that IS fast! I didn't even notice the buffalo soldier. ;) I'm strictly an amber ale type, so PBR or anything light isn't my jam.

  13. Impressive that Hayden likes to do so many things. I drank Rainier, probably b/c it was the cheapest.

  14. Side boobs and buffalo stance...I will be thinking about these things all day long now.

    1. Aren’t you glad I didn’t share side boob of an obese man from Buffalo?

  15. It always makes me happy to see young ones being physically active! Go Hayden! When I could drink without it messing with my meds, I enjoyed a good PBR or three. I like that it isn't bitter.
I didn't notice the side boob until it was pointed out to me. I don't mind a tasteful, anatomically correct animal (love buffalo jerky).

  16. I'm so impressed by Hayden's initiative and carry-through - who'd have even thought about challenging a speed sign? Not me. I wonder if they'd register an old lady walking? I could find out; we have one nearby.

  17. Both my kids did the running at the speed sign thing when they posted one in my neighborhood eons ago. I had never even considered such a thing. It cracked me up.
I used to run for fun. Now I *can't* run because of my knees. Hmph. Those scam callers who are calling about my automobile warranty might catch me if they offered to give me an extended warranty on my body.

    1. I might need that warranty as well.

  18. Without the side boob, it would just be a native American male drinking from a stream :).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh yeah. Definite side boob. My kids, so far, are only interested in things like kick ball and soccer. You should definitely be proud of Hayden on that. Most adults can't do that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. chicks dig the long ball, so you got that going for you too.

  21. way to go Hayden...run like the wind. Abby is rocking in Softball, she's the catcher and is hitting up a storm..last game she had a double a single and a double...

  22. I am not sure why my comments sometimes just don't appear on your blog... Oh well, I have a PBR story. I had assumed they stopped making that after I graduated from college, but was reintroduced to it in 2011. Where, you ask? In a dining car of a very nice train in China, and it was the only beer they served. I couldn't believe it!

  24. PBR...first beer I ever drank. My Dad drank it and during some of his poker games at our house, I would often walk up and get a drink of his beer. I was probably 6 or 7. (Around 1960)
