More Notes

What's making me happy

Last week I told you about the notes I put in Hayden's lunch.
Well, she thought I should get some of my own notes.
I recently got home from a softball game pretty late and saw the sweetest thing on my desk:

Dear Daddy,
There are some things in life that are unpreventable,
There are some things in life that are optional,
There are some things in life that make you mad,
There are some things in life that make you happy,
Choose the things that make you happy!
I love you, Daddy.
Love,
Hayden

And I didn't have a worry in the world after reading her note.
I have gotten a note almost every morning with her words of wisdom and it is a pretty great way to start my day.
She is thoughtful, sweet, amazing, kind and I am so ever grateful that I am her dad.

What's not making me happy

Larry.
We added another cell phone line and the number used to belong to Larry.
I know this because Larry gets several text messages and phone calls every day.
They want to know if Larry is interested in: Medicare plans, solar panel promotions, extended car warranties, vacation packages, boner pills, celebrity sightings, UFO abductions, cow tipping, ball hair trimmers, males, mail order brides, bridal magazines, bung darts, etc.
All of this made me think of "The Big Lebowski" scene when Walter says:
"Do you see what happens, Larry?"
And then tells Larry that fornicating with an unfamiliar person in their derriere is what happens.
When I was looking for that clip to share I was then reminded about the censored version.
Instead of intercourse, Walter warns Larry about finding a stranger in the Alps.

Censored version:

Uncensored version:

All I was trying to say was Larry was making me unhappy and I ended up talking about strangers in the Alps.
Sounds about right for me and this blog.

Updates

My fraternity brothers and I were able to raise more than $42,000 for one of our friends that got diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer.
He was able to come in town this past weekend for the event and it was good to see all of the boys get back together to help out a brother in need.

Observations

May the 4th be with you, happy Cinco de Mayo and I hope all of you moms out there have a wonderful Mother's Day.

Go Out On A Meme

I will try and do better.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  2. Today's memes are so funny! I'm not happy with Larry either. My son had a similar experience when he first got his phone, it's not fun. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend with the cancer diagnosis but you and your frat brothers did a fantastic job raising funds for him. I'm so glad you were all able to get together. Those Daddy notes are priceless. You better keep those forever and ever!

  3. You will spend more time blocking Larry's fans than actually using that phone.

  4. Time to ditch Larry's old number. Or, find out who Larry is, where he lives, and start ordering stuff for him.

  5. It would be lovely if everyone on the planet got Hayden Letter. Think of hat we could do.

Good on you and your fraternity for stepping up. Now we see where Hayden gets it.

  7. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's wonderful that you and your fraternity brothers were able to raise so much money to help him.

You have some pretty wonderful kids there. Hayden is sure a sweet girl and very mature for her age too. Enjoy that special family of yours!

  8. I've got to say, Hayden's notes are precious, and that's a word I never use. These memes, on the other hand, are an effing riot!

  11. Many years ago, I moved and got my new phone number (pre-cell phone) and it ended in four zeros. I thought it was cool. I spent the next two years receiving calls from people asking about this or that business and more disturbing, prisoners at the local prison asking if I would accept their collect call. By the time I moved, I was glad to get rid of that phone number.

  13. Those are lovely notes! You do have a very thoughtful child. I never think about cell phone numbers being inherited, but that makes sense. What a hassle though! The memes made me laugh, especially the husband one. It reminds me how tricky languages can be.

  14. I’m cracking up at the middle meme. I’m sure flight attendants have had it, trying to monitor masks on planes these days, along with the complaints! What a sweet note from Hayden. She’s a keeper! Glad you will be able to reconnect with college buds.

  16. Those are sweet notes. I'm impressed by her vocabulary, but with you as her daddy I shouldn't be surprised. I'm really glad to see how much you were able to help your friend out and how much you guys still care about each other after all these years.

  17. Children learn from their parents, so if your children grow up to be wonderful human beings, kind and encouraging, and quick to help out their friends, you've got no one to blame but yourself, buddy!

  18. The Notes are Priceless and she sounds like an Old Soul, a Sage at a tender Age. Wow, that almost sounded like Poetry. *LOL* Sorry to hear of your Fraternity Brother's diagnosis, but what a Sweet thing you all did. I remember, before they put The Man out to Pasture with a full Medical Retirement, his entire Squadron donated Paid Leave to him, since he was missing so much Work due to illness and surgeries, it was so Touching and helped us during a particularly difficult and expensive phase of his prolonged illness and 100% Disability Diagnosis to finally be Blessed by the VA in order for him to draw Early Retirement and Disability, which took 2.5 Years. It was a good thing I had a thriving Career and could support us... this, after he'd Served his Country 39 Years admirably... but, it ended well and we prevailed, so that's all I focus on now.

    1. Glad it all worked out, Bohemian. My dad had a long fight with the VA as well. It shouldn't be that hard for the men and women who volunteered to serve our country.
