Take Note

What's making me happy

Writing notes to Hayden.
I have been adding them to her lunch for a long time.
But I was running out of ways to say "You are amazing" every day.
"You're amazing!"
"Amazing, you are!"
"Amazing! Yep that's you!"
"You = Amazing!"
"Knock, knock. Who's there? Amazing who? Amazing you!"
So I tried something new... motivational quotes.
It seemed a little much for a 3rd-grader but she loves them.
I know how much motivational quotes can lift me up and get my mind right and Hayden feels the same way.
To this day, I still listen to motivational quotes and music on my way to my softball games.
I learned a long time ago that your mind is a powerful weapon and your mindset can have a massive influence on your mental health as it can easily build you up or tear you down.
I am trying to pass that along to Hayden because she needs to believe in herself because there are too many people that overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are.
In the photo above, the green hearts are her favorites and I believe the ones with chocolate pudding fingerprints indicate they are greatest thing ever written.

What's not making me happy

I have been on a run lately of not having too many things make me unhappy.
I mean there are plenty of things out there but not enough to get me fired up I guess.
Part of it is that I will not probably care about it next week or I just don't think it is worth the time or effort to get all spun up when I can redirect that energy into something more positive.
It feels a little strange because being negative is almost as easy as breathing for me.
Anyway, I am not going to ruminate on it and just enjoy the moment instead.

Updates

I got my second COVID shot yesterday morning.
So it has been about 30 hours and nothing substantial as far as side effects go.
I did get a little tired yesterday afternoon so I took a nap but that could be from staying up too late on Sunday night and I am on the other side of 50.
My arm was sore but that was expected.

Observations

This might look pretty good in my office when I go back someday.
A better view can be found here
Even with vaccinations, they don't have a timeline established for when we can return.
Some people might go back in July but there is no mandate.
I wouldn't be too upset if I could continue working from home but I know that isn't a possibility.
Hard to believe it will be 15 months of WFH in a few weeks.

Go Out On A Meme

I will try and do better.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. Those are great memes. I’m glad your second shot went fine. I felt lousy, but mostly from not getting any sleep the two nights following it. I may be the only person whose side effect was insomnia!

    1. Me too, Bijoux. Glad it is all done.

  2. I love the meme with the sheepy chair and the dog ~ nearly every dog I have has made it their mission to destroy every toy purchased within hours or a couple of days. One dog simply chewed a hole in, then had great fun tearing out every bit of stuffing. :)

I consider myself an eternal optimist....although sometimes the dark thoughts come through despite my resistance. Hang in! What a great Dad you are.

  3. I love that you have the collection of notes, save them forever! Did you get the Pfizer vaccine? It seems to have less side effects than Moderna. I'm so glad you haven't had any significant side effects either way. I go on May 6th for my second dose of Moderna, I suppose I'll probably survive. Great memes lol!

    1. Yes, it was Pfizer. Hope your second went well.

  4. Riding lawn mower, chuckle. I thought teaching my daughters to drive my old Sears rider was my genius trick. Every one of us thought we'd hit the jackpot.
Hayden may never realize she grew up to be such a fine person because of her dad, so I'll just mention it now.

  5. Yeah, our first shot is set for Thursday and we'll see how it goes.

I need to get Carlos to leave me inspirational messages in my lunch. I mean, something other than "Pick up the dry cleaning."

  6. You are such a good Daddy! I love that you write special notes for Hayden's lunch box. Congrats for getting your second shot. I'm glad you didn't have bad side effects.

That riding lawn mower is something!

    1. I haven't had a dog like that. We did dog sit for a golden that tried to join us in the shower.

  8. I recall that dog bath from a bit ago and I just love the look of zen on that dogs face. I could use a motivational note in my lunch. OH wait I don't eat lunch. How about a motivational note on my wine bottle? 😁

  10. I have a quote posted in my cube. One of the only personal items in my cube. "All that I need comes to me at the right time and place in this life."

I am on the other side of 55 it is just a number.

  12. Your second shot experience sounds identical to mine, including the nap which I half blamed on just staying up later the night before.

  13. I love inspirational quotes; we're never too young (or old) to find wisdom in them. Glad your second shot is in the books!

  14. You're all vaxxed up! Good deal. My second jab is in May. Hopefully, all will go well.
I think it is really sweet that you've written notes to Hayden (and continue to do so). I wonder if that has already or will plant the seed in her mind to become a writer in some capacity?

  16. Love the memes, and our second round is coming up in a few weeks. I used to be so fucking pessimistic and negative, and never realized how unhealthy that made me. Thank God for an amazing, hard-working wife is all I can say!

  17. Aww, I love that she has notes in her lunchbox to read and remind her just how amazing she is.

  18. glad your second shot when fine..hot damn...I love the notes in her lunch..I used to do that for maryjo when she was about 8 and she asked me to quit that I was acting like a stalker...sigh*

  20. That connection with your child(ren) is so important. Sadly, so many people never consider it or would take the time to do it even if they had.

Kids need to be cherished, appreciated and for someone to make a big deal of them.

I loved the riding lawn mower. I'd like to have one, but they seem kind of expensive.

  21. Congrats on being Double Vaxxed... my 2nd one was easier than the 1st, which was a Welcome Surprise. We're fully Pfizer here, The Man and I, the Grandchild won't turn 16 until late Sept. so I'm waiting impatiently for her to Qualify. The Kiddos playing Beer Pong, hilarious. Princess T wants to be enrolled in Summer School, apparently she really missed her In-Person Learning and the Fantasy that Home Schooling would be Awesome was quickly dispelled with Pandemic Home Schooling, which Sucked. *LOL*
