Coyote Ugly

What's making me happy

Getting back to the great outdoors with the family.
The weather is warming up and the trails are drying out so we hit the road again to go on a family adventure to the Bruneau Sand Dunes over the weekend.
This is the third time we have been to this state park and it is one of Kyle's favorite places to explore.
It also didn't hurt that we brought along Ms. Frizzle this time.

What's not making me happy

Getting lost in the great outdoors with the family.
I introduced Hayden to my terrible sense of direction on our hike.
I think I have gotten Mrs. Shife and I lost at least 1,478 times in our 24 years together.
Hayden, Ms. Frizzle and I headed back to the parking lot a little earlier than Kyle and Mrs. Shife because Frizz wanted to play in the water and Kyle was still busy seeing how much more sand he could get into his butt crack.
On the map below, you will see a red line and that is the preferred path to get back to your vehicle.
The path Hayden, Frizz and I went on is the blue path.
I knew we were a little off course when I saw a coyote tracking us.
To be fair, the coyote could have also been tracking a road runner or waiting for a delivery from ACME.

Updates

The kids went back to in-person school full-time today.
Yay!
We have alternated between the all virtual and the hybrid model (two days a week of in-person) for about 365 days but today is the first day both Kyle and Hayden will be with their entire classroom.

Speaking of 365 days (I am so good at segues), my working from home for a year anniversary is Friday.
I am not sure if it's something to celebrate but I am grateful that I could do it because it made our situation a lot more tolerable.

What a year, huh?

Observations

What do George Clooney, a pick-up basketball game and basset hound puppies have in common?
They all made an appearance in a recent dream I had.
Basketball (March Madness and the NCAA Tournament) and basset hounds (puppy fever) make sense but I am not sure how George Clooney fits into the equation.
Any thoughts?

Go Out On A Meme

I will try and do better.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. I did not know there are sand dunes in ID.
and YAYZ for your kids going back to school; I trust all safety precautions are in place?
saw some covidiots in your state burning masks; idiots!
the warner brothers cartoons were cleverly drawn, as your opening GIF shows.
the cat meme - yeah, would be my cats if I didn't keep the can in a tight cabinet.
    george clooney, ummmmmmmmmmm...

  3. It sure has been quite a year hasn't it! If someone told us all this a couple of years ago we would not have believed it. By the way, I love Ms. Frizzle's collar! It does look like Kyle is having fun sliding down those sand dunes but doesn't that mean he has to walk back up? I don't suppose there is a ski lift for the dunes?

I also have a very bad sense of direction and have been lost more times than I would admit to. I can read a map very well but without one I'm a mess! You did walk a bit out of your way but just think of all the good exercise you got! Take care!

  4. My father would get us lost every so often, but would always cover by saying, "I'm not lost, I just wanted to show you a different way to get back."

  5. Glad you were able to get out for a
nice weekend (except for getting lost).
We lost each other in England (before
    cellphones) I considered calling my
folks in the US to see if DH had contacted
them. He didn't. He went to the police
    station - ak!

  10. Those dunes are cool! I’ve always wanted to visit the NP in Colorado with the dunes since I’ll never make it to Arabia, or wherever dunes and mirages happen. I can see myself getting lost there, too.

  11. The onion meme was awesome. I got into my car and headed home from the eastern side of the state today. I couldn't find my printed mapquest directions, and almost had a heart attack. I am pleased to report that I found my way home ALL BY MYSELF.

    I was pretty proud.

It was pointed out that my phone can be used to give directions.

Someday I should sit down and figure out how to set that up.

  12. That park is fantastic! Going in walks in National Parks or Forest Preserves is always so much fun. Even if the coyotes start tracking us. My manfriend once made me walk three miles off route in Niagara. He calls them his 'adventures'. He just gets lost and tries to cover it.
The Road Runner and Wily were my favorite cartoons.
Yay for in-person teaching for the kiddos.

    XOXO

  13. I too have a terrible sense of direction. I can't ever find my way back from anywhere. Love the onion meme and Wile E. Coyote. I love sand dunes and sandy beaches but dislike sand in general. Makes no sense. It's like nature's glitter.

    1. Sand is just too messy. I wish they had a giant machine that could suck the sand off of you before you leave.

  14. I have seen sand dunes in California, Nevada and Utah (where there are pretty pink ones), but didn't know of those in Idaho. However, those mountains in the distance reminds me of good days gone by of my time in the Sawtooth Mountains.

Gorgeous views out on your hike! -bummer about getting off track. We've coyotes in Golden Gate Park. I've biked by them as they've lurked around shrubs. I always hope that they are more afraid of me than I of them.

  16. Isn't it so frustrating to have a bad sense of direction? I once left Spartanburg, SC to drive to Myrtle Beach, SC to visit my grandparents, and somehow wound up in NC. No one trusts me with directions!

The 16th will be one year of working from home for me. It has been one heck of a year.

  20. The sand dunes look amazing. We have some here, but they're nowhere near as dramatic looking. Hope the kids are safe heading back. Mine have been okay, but my sister's two oldest have bounced between school and "Go home. You might have been exposed to someone".

  21. My horrible sense of direction is legendary in my family; it's embarrassing. I can't reverse my route either. Perhaps I should walk backwards when I go anywhere? I've only been to the Oregon sand dunes. They were pretty, but I had sand everywhere, including my eyes.

  22. Glad to read that your kids are able to attend school full-time again. Our public schools are not quite there yet.

Those dunes look tremendous especially with a view of snow-capped mountains in the background.
