Mr. Shife's February Frenzy Day 22

Did you ever call up someone and ask them if their fridge was running?

I did but I always preferred calling up the bowling alley and asking them how big their balls were. I thought it was funnier but I am not what they would call a man of sophistication.
For example, I still crack up when a dude gets hit in the groin.

Well I bring up a running fridge because ours is not so the prank caller would be really disappointed if they called us today.

Our 17-year-old fridge appears to be on it’s last legs as the freezer isn’t freezing and the refrigerator compartment is hardly keeping things cold.

Not cool.

I would think that having your fridge for 17 years is getting your money’s worth but the ol’ refrigerator has some sentimental value as it was a house warming gift from my mom.

She is no longer with us and it is just an appliance but it still makes me a little crestfallen.

I might also be sad because I don’t want to spend a thousand bucks on a new fridge

A repairman is coming over tomorrow to see if there’s any hope.

Maybe I will call up a bowling alley to make myself feel better.

I will try and do better tomorrow.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. I hope you can get your fridge repaired. If you can't then be prepared for the high prices. They have really gone up in price and we were told they won't last nearly as long as the old ones did either. I know, that's not very encouraging, sorry. Go ahead and call a bowling alley, it might help! I hope your week improves!

  2. Smoke shop call. Do have Prince Albert in a can? Well, you better let him out.

  3. Make sure the vents on the back wall are clear of ice and aren't being blocked by a big jar of pickles. Been there done that.

  4. Are there people who don't laugh when a dude gets hit in the groin? People are way to serious and sensitive these days! The exact same thing happened to my fridge last April. It was 25 years old so I didn't bother with a repair man. I hope they can fix yours. Call the bowling alley either way ;)

  5. Ouch, an ailing fridge is no fun. We understand the sentimental part of it. My husband was sad when we had to replace the flag that his parents gave us as a housewarming gift for our first home.

    1. I also guess there is a long delay to get a new fridge because of COVID.

  6. 17 years is a good long run, but, yeah, hope the repairman can fix it.
Ask him if he has Prince Albert in a can....

  7. BTDT with the fridge. appliances don't last long any more. I still laugh at farts.

  8. We used to make prank calls when we were kids. I expect appliances to last for ever. They don't anymore. I have replaced a stove and a dishwasher in the last few years.

    1. It feels like they used to last forever but the companies can't make profit if that is the case.

  9. Oh, that's a shame. Especially because it was a gift from your mom.
Hopefully they can do something about it. It may be the freeze-on or whatever that special gas is called. How do I know that? I dated a repairman once. Yeah, I'm multifaceted.
And go ahead and watch more soccer. Who knows, it may bring a smile to your face.

    XOXO

  10. I hope it is repairable because fridges are ungodly expensive. Mine was dying and before doing last rites we decided to begin shopping for new. 4K? what? then one found one we loved, 3,400. Again I realize it lasts 15 yrs but $3,400? Black friday it was 2800. Then in January they lowered it again just as mine died. Divine intervention is what we called it - Got that 3400 for 2,400 and it's the best fridge ever. Still more than we wanted to spend but we love it. When this one goes, there will be a full blown funeral....Probably mine.

  11. Refrigerators are a pain and often, these days, it's cheaper to replace. I hope you can get yours going, then maybe you can jog around the block with it... We always called the grocery store and asked if they had Prince Albert in the can. If they did, we asked them to let him out.

  13. I understand your attachment to the fridge; I have also heard that it's difficult to get a new one. (mine is 25 years old, so I fret about that) How are your balls? LOL I just became 12.

  14. Good luck with your fridge. It's a pain to replace appliances even when they don't hold sentimental value.

  15. My b-i-l, not the sharpest knife, etc., had to have ice and water dispensers. He shopped till he found them, and the price was great on the floor model. Except, he had to tear out the overhead cupboard, which cost thousands to repair. It never properly dispensed from the door, and he pulled it out and pushed it back so often he broke the kitchen floor tiles, which cost mega dollars to replace. Then, the whole unit failed within a year and the unit was so old the part was no longer manufactured. Yes, his fancy schmancy floor model was five years old. He had it less than a year, paid about two grand for it.
My advice: find the least expensive, stripped down model. It will have fewer breaking parts.
