Happy 2021

Happy New Year and welcome back to the DWG blog!!
I hope you are doing good.
All is well here.
Getting used to working after having 11 days off hasn't been the smoothest of sailing (and you all know how smooth I am when it comes to sailing) but it looks like I made it to the end of the week with minimal f-bomb damage.
Based on my research, my f-bomb usage was only up 413% from last year.
I think I can attribute that to a lot of the videos and photos I saw on Wednesday.

COVID update

A sentence that I never thought I would be happy writing and one that kind of encapsulates the year that was 2020:  It only took 35 days before I could smell my farts again.
Exciting times, right?
My taste buds came back a little sooner as I was able to enjoy cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning.

Christmas update

Christmas used to be about assembling presents for Kyle and Hayden.
Now it is more like tech support.
Smart watches, drones, Alexa and other electronic goodies.
But it was a good day.

2020 update

Despite it going down as one of the worst years ever, 2020 did have a few positives.
For me, it was about reconnecting with stuff that I had forgotten how much I missed: exploring outside with the family and doing lots of hiking, finally getting a good night's sleep after using a CPAP machine and enjoying listening to music and discovering new bands that left me with major earworms like Whiskey Myers.

Laughing update

My daughter makes me laugh
I got Mrs. Shife some new headbands for Christmas and I put one on.

I asked Hayden what she thought and she said:
"Hmmm. It is going to be tough deciding who to live with when Mommy divorces you."
A little harsh but I understand where she is coming from as she and Kyle are having numerous "discussions" about sharing their stuff.
She'll probably have even more to say when she learns about the time I borrowed a dress from Mrs. Shife:

Streaming update

I binge-watched Ted Lasso, Vikings and Cobra Kai over the holiday break.
Surprisingly, Ted Lasso was my favorite.
I knew it was good.
But it was really, really good and got you in the feels.

Well, that is all for now.
Take care, thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  7. It's great to see you back! It sure is hard to go back to work after eleven days off. I'm so glad you can smell your farts again. That is important so you know how many times to apologize to your wife and kids! I do hope you are all feeling better after your bout with Covid. I love the picture of Hayden and Kyle. They look like they had a great Christmas. Enjoy being tech support for them now. Someday you will be going to them for that help!

  8. You couldn't smell your own farts? It's a wonder you made it through. Would life even be worth living?

  9. I think Hayden and I could be BFFs because we have very similar senses of humor ... quick, biting and HIGH-larious!
And the simple things like the smell of "cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning" are nice things to notice. The farts? I might have been happy to see that one go.

  11. Smelling your farts again must be a relief. I'm glad you are feeling so much better now. Things in the UK are pretty bad, in fact worse than they were in March during the first lockdown, so I'm staying inside as much as possible, although I think I am going a little insane. Okay maybe a lot.

    Happy New Year!

  13. OMG, my Christmas day for the last two year has been spent setting up smart gadgets. I miss the days of assembling things.

I am fortunate in that I never lost my sense of taste or smell and appear to be on the mend after day five. Didn't quite make it until the vaccine.

I've been following Vikings and binge watched Cobra Kai a couple months back but hadn't heard of Ted Lasso. I'm going to have to check that out as I wait out the remainder of my ten days in quarantine.

  14. Happy 2021, Mr. Shife!
Woot woot! Yay for getting back your taste buds (and just on time for cinnamon rolls!!). Glad you got over that bump. It gets me nervous when people tell me they got the virus. So many terrible stories.
And I'm kind of digging the bandanas? The beard does help pulling that one off.

    XOXO

  15. Glad to see things are improving at your house and the holidays were as close to normal as they could be. I totally understand tech support on Christmas morning now, but compared to assembling things, it's preferred.
