This might be the first time in a long time that there are no GIFs in my post.
I just love those things.
Have we ever talked about the pronunciation of GIF?
I was trying to find an image that conveyed my thoughts on GIF vs JIF and I couldn't resist when I found a GIF that sums up all of my feelings.- Is there an Old Hampshire?
Also, is there an Old Zealand?
Asking for a friend.
- Kyle and Hayden are back to school on Monday but it will be online for the foreseeable future.
Our local school district was hoping to start in-person but it just isn't going to happen.
They are going to re-evaluate in September.
I will probably have to re-evaluate my alcohol consumption as well.
So if I seem "out of it" over the next few weeks then you will know why as it's going to be interesting to help them with school while I am working from home. - Any suggestions for back to school photos? I was kind of partial to the hamster ball look.
- My favorite "F" word, Frizzle, turns 4 on Sunday.
We didn't get her until October 8 but she was born on August 16 and we are so happy that she is our girl. I should probably write a better origin story about "How We Met Ms. Frizzle" but this post will have to do instead. Anyway, yellow dog is awesome, we love her and she completes us.
- Well, that is about it around the Shifley household. We are going to try to have some fun on the mountain before things get serious next week with school and stuff.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

Good luck with home schooling!
ReplyDeleteThis is a whole new ball game.
You will do great!
take care, xoxo :-)
Thanks, AK. Day 2 is in the books and we still like one another.
DeleteI'm not you, or the dogs' mother, but I'm so relieved the children are remoting to school. Think of it as the brave new world. You all are young enough to make it another adventure--and earn a living too.
ReplyDeleteOK, that's all I have to say. You take care.
Thanks, Joanne. It will get easier as we get more used to it. I finding that some of the teachers are adapting better to this brave new world than others but we will make it through.
DeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY FRIZZLE! such a happy dog!
ReplyDeletetimes like these make me glad I never had kids to worry about. bad enough being concerned about the spouse & 3 cats. and myself, of course.
skippy natural extra chunky rules in this house. :)
Thanks, anne marie in philly. It was almost a memorable birthday for all of the wrong reasons. I am just glad that our happy dog is back home and OK.
DeleteLol, on reevaluating your alcohol consumption! I’m on the every other day plan, but I make exceptions for birthdays and holidays! That is a darling picture of your kids! Jackson Hole? I feel as though we have a similar family photo.
ReplyDeleteMy kids tell me it’s pronounced like the peanut butter, but it’s still a hard G in my head!
I think I have been making exceptions if I brush my teeth before 5 p.m. I am with you on the hard G.
DeleteI'm glad I don't have any kids still in school and that I have an office I can come to with a daughter and a wife mostly working from home!

It will only make us stronger, right? I hope so but it has been a little rough the first two days but the kids are doing better than I am.
DeleteHappy Birthday Ms. Frizzle! What a cute baby she was and a beautiful young lady now. The kids here go back to school after Labor Day and most are doing hybrid school - two days in school and three virtual at home. That keeps the class size smaller but they do have the option of 100% virtual. Good luck to you and your kids for a good start to the school year. You did great last Spring and you will again this Fall!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie. We need all of the luck we can get. I hope they can come up with something like your schools are doing. It is just so important that they get time with their friends. My oldest is in 6th-grade and he just lights up when he gets to spend time with his buddies. He has know some of these kinds since his preschool days.
DeleteWell blow me down, I thought it was GIF not JIF, but I see that technically I'm wrong. But I'm still going to say it with a hard G. Us old people don't change easily :D
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the schooling while working from home. I keep wondering how I'd do that if our kids were still in school. I thought I read somewhere that kids who are home schooled (traditional home schooling, not COVID online schooling) typically only need to spend a half a day (either morning or afternoon) on schoolwork. The school day at school gets drawn out because of the time spent repeating things for kids who need a bit more explanation, plus recesses, plus changing from activity to activity, plus waiting for everyone to settle down, get supplies out, put supplies away, etc. So maybe think of it as home schooling instead and Google how parents cope? I would guess your kids catch on to stuff fairly fast, in general, and that you and your wife are pretty competent at understanding and explaining stuff, at least at the stage they're at currently in their schooling, so it may work out better than you anticipate. All the best with it.
Hard G is the way I am going as well, jenny_o. Thanks for the feedback and kind words. I think we will be fine but I am learning that some of the teachers are doing so well with the technology part and we are having some growing pains but it's only day 2. It will get better.
DeleteBeautiful quote. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI would be terrified if I had to home school my kids, lol. Having them at home on the computer seems like "home" schooling to me......I wouldn't send my kids to school though, I would suck it up and do it, but I would still be having to change my underwear at least 3 times a day. There's a visual for ya....
ReplyDeleteYour visual made me chuckle. Thanks for that.
DeleteI know GIF, but just heard JIF...
ReplyDelete"hamster ball look" is funny photo....hehehe....lol.
I go with GIF, Tanza.
DeleteCoincidentally enough, we had the "Gif Vs. Jif" discussion last night at a study I was hosting. The school districts here are full steam ahead on 'in person' learning, but I really feel like our officials are of the "Nothing to see here!" variety. I hope we both maintain our sanity.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Jon. I might have to buy some more sanity at Amazon.
DeleteAs someone who spent 20 years homeschooling, I can tell you, this isn't homeschooling, it's school-at-home, at least for most people. Has no resemblance to real homeschooling, or as I like to think of it, life learning.
ReplyDeleteAll kinds of stuff on my blog about it if you put 'homeschool' in the search field.
But you can do either one with a kid in a hamster ball, I think. :-D
I will tell you that it's not possible to stop a child from learning, although one can temporarily squelch that spark.
Always called it Jif... have a geek son.
Hamster balls might be their Halloween costumes this year, Ami. The kiddos are not happy with me because I am making them do extra learning because they missed out on a few things due to school ending early in the spring.
DeleteAbby is going to school on line, but Olivia is going to a much smaller school and she's going to go to school..there will be 6 kids to a class..don't know how they will do that...but???
ReplyDeleteI hope it goes well for both of them, Jackiesue.
DeleteOur school district will be online as well. It will be very strange, living next to a hs, and not having all the traffic/parking issues. Happy Birthday to Ms. Frizz! My mom pronounces Meme's as Meemee's, drives me bonkers :)
