Missing the Kiddos

We went away for the Fourth of July weekend and forgot to bring Kyle and Hayden back home with us.
I kid.
I could never forget those two.
Look how cute they are.
And they still like me.
They are spending an extra week at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
And that means the house is really, really quiet.

I am not sure what to do with myself.
I asked Ms. Frizzle if she had any ideas.

She wasn't much help.
I thought about making slow-motion videos of Frizzle to help pass all that time.

I was informed by the lovely Mrs. Shife that Frizzle's video wasn't in slow motion.
I filmed it on my phone but I guess my phone and Google aren't BFF and it cut out the slow motion.
I added a GIF below that will now serve as a terrible re-enactment of what it looked like.
Except Frizzle ate it.
And she's not a dude.
And I threw a cheese stick at her face.
Not a pie.
But she would definitely do her best to eat the pie.

I think we might just hang out and whine together until they come home.

Any suggestions?
I guess I could pick up a new hobby.

Here's something funny because you deserve that after reading my sad fest:

I hope all is well in your corner of the world and you enjoyed your holiday weekend.
Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you soon.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. One of my favorite scenes in A Bug's Life is the snail foaming at the mouth after sipping the drink he ordered at the bar. "I said no salt!"

No advice on what you should do with your spare time while the kidlets are gone. I'd probably have all kinds of cleaning plans. I might even make a list. But none of those things would get done 'cause that's how I roll.

We had an empty nest for two years. I liked it very much as I still love the guy I married almost 40 years ago, but now our daughter is back home. And she brought her guy with her. AND the cat. We suddenly have a full house again.

I miss the quiet, but I couldn't be happier to have my daughter back.

  2. Oh! Farm time. They'll have a great time.
Always glad the kids got to know it. Wheat

take care, be safe, xoxo :-)

  3. I remember those quiet interludes in child-rearing ... home just didn't seem like home when the kids were somewhere else.

Whatever hobby you choose, you'd better get to it - you only have a few days left to find it, learn it, perfect it, and put a video on YouTube :)

    1. Thanks, anne marie. I am a pretty lucky guy. The family - especially my son - would love to have a cat but my wife is allergic.

  6. Lucky Grandma and Grandpa! Our grandkids used to spend every other weekend with us and we loved it! Now is the time for you and your wife to go out or do things just for the two of you. The kids will be back in no time and you will enjoy them more than ever when they do return!

I answered your comment on my blog about Tom's barbecue ribs. If you like to cook out you should give it a try!

  7. The silence when the kids aren't around is pretty deafening. My advice is fill that time with things that you can't do when they're around. I've rediscovered hobbies and also find time to just sit and do nothing (sometimes). Enjoy the time, but that's the sign you're a good Dad is you're ready for them to be back.

  8. The kids and the grandparents will love that time together. Kids want all the attention, and grandparents want to give it.

My oldest misses his grandparents out in California so bad to the point where we call them up on the video chat and he cries that he wants the real version of them. This junk is getting sad, dude.

    1. Sorry to hear that, Dr. Ken. That's a rough one when there isn't much you can do for the little guy. It is definitely getting sad. I am ready for it to be over but I am afraid it's going to be going on for a little while longer.

  10. Frisbee for one. Ha. It must be nice for the kids to visit their grandparents. I can't imagine being a kid and having to go through quarantine. The monotony would be harder to deal with than it already is, I should think. Be well.

    1. They are enjoying their time at the farm and it is a nice distraction from the quarantine. Hopefully they will be able to go to school in the fall and resume some normalcy.

  11. Make the most of what you have, it gets worse as they get older. I am thankful that at least I still have the cat!

  12. Oh to have an empty house, how I long for that, but not forever. What holiday weekend? Here in the UK it's just another day. :D

  13. I used to love sending the kiddo to Grandma's for a week! I got so much done, like sleeping, had a break on laundry, didn't have to listen to anyone's whining except my own :-)
That ended one year when he said "no, I don't want to go", and that was that. What is it they say? Absence makes the heart grow fonder, which much have been written by parents.

  14. A pool would sure feel good about now (almost 90 here). Ms. Frizz sounds like some of my dogs when their parents leave. It is hard when the house is so quiet :-(
