T-Minus 16 Days

Another question.
This one from the talented, wonderful and generous lady known as the dogs' mother.

Below you will find my wedding speech.
I still have the original copy.
But I didn't see anything too crazy in regards to my father-in-law.
Thanks to the dogs' mother I was able to remember what she was referring to.
In turns out that I did a little improvising while I was giving my speech.
My father-in-law is a wonderful man and I am extremely grateful to have him in my life.
He also tends to vote Republican and wasn't a big of the 42nd president of the U.S. of A.
It will all make sense when you read the speech.
I left that part bolded in case you just want to read that part instead of all my mushy stuff.

I did have a great speech worked out for you today, but as I am now married, my wife has told me what to say instead. Here it goes:

Ladies, gentlemen, friends, relatives and any stray college students who may have wandered in to get a free beer. On behalf of my wife and me … Welcome to our wedding reception. I hope everyone is having a good time. It’s great to see you all and I can honestly say it would have been terrible without you. It would also have been a lot cheaper without you, but that’s beside the point. But seriously, on behalf of Sarah and myself, I would like to thank you all for coming and sharing in this very special day with us, especially those of you who have traveled some distance to be here.

I know that this is meant to be our day, but of course, it wouldn’t be as special if it wasn’t for all of our friends and family being here with us … so again a big thank you.

This day has obviously been much anticipated by Sarah and myself and I am happy to say that so far it has been simply perfect. Please relax with us and enjoy the rest of the evening. It does promise to be a very special one and there are quite a few people responsible for ensuring this day is possible to which Sarah and I would like to give our thanks.

Thank you to Richard and Pam, Sarah’s Dad and Mom, for making this day possible. Without their help and support, none of us would be here today. Most of all, thank you for giving me your blessing to marry your treasured daughter, Sarah.

And now that I am part of the family, Richard, I guess it’s OK to let you know that I voted for Bill Clinton.
Twice.

I would also like to thank my parents, who really should receive a medal for endurance. They have always loved and supported me through every stage of my life, particularly through my Matt the teenager stage that seemed to last well into my twenties, and which Sarah may argue hasn’t quite ended yet. I love you both very much and your support and guidance have made me the person I am today so thank you, Mom and Dad.
And to everyone else, you know now who to blame.

Sarah and I would personally like to thank Chad, who kindly agree to be my best man today. You have done an excellent job today and certainly helped the proceedings go smoothly. I have to say I couldn’t have asked for a better best man. As my younger brother, you’ve had to put up with a lot from me over the years but never doubted my reasons or intentions. You’ve always believed in me and offered praise and congratulations at the earliest opportunity for everything I have done or what was important to me. You’ve been a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, but most importantly of all, my little brother.

Of course, we cannot forget the maid of honor, Kacey. She looks truly lovely today, and I would like to say a special thanks to her for giving Sarah all the support that she has needed. I know you have been an excellent source of advice and reassurance for Sarah in the past few months.

And finally, the most important person here today to whom I would like to give my very special thanks is, of course, my lovely wife, Sarah. She is the one person in the room to which I owe most of all. I still can’t believe that such a truly special and wonderful woman as Sarah chose to marry me. She looks absolutely stunning today as I’m sure you’ll agree. I would like to say thank you to my bride. You are beautiful, intelligent, supporting, kind, caring, patient, unassuming … sorry, I can’t read your writing, what does the rest of this say?
I kid.
I love you, Sarah.

And now before I sit down, I ask everyone to raise your glasses and join me in showing our gratitude to all those just mentioned.

To family and friends.
Cheers.

I hope to do better tomorrow.
Stay safe, take care and thanks for being there.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  8. Lovely speech. Thanks for sharing.
And I voted for Bill Clinton, two. Times. And George McGovern. I wasn't 21 when Kennedy ran.
