What A Week

By the buck knuckle of George Constanza, I need to get hopped up on Schlitz. It has been a busy week at Casa de Shifley, and instead of boring you with words, I will just share some photos from the past few days. Plus I hear that pictures are worth a thousand words so this could be my biggest blog update ever.

Any guesses on how I tore the shit out of my leg? If you have read this blog long enough then you probably guessed softball. I had not made a sacrifice to the softball gods in some time so I was due.

A big wind storm rolled through town and a giant branch from the silver maple in our backyard snapped landing directly on our roof. It doesn't appear that there was any roof damage so we are pretty lucky that we just have to pay for someone to come chop it down.

Tank Tank had to go to the vet so Kyle wanted to give him a hug and let him know that it would be okay. Tank just needed a shot so it was no big deal but I still have never owned a dog that enjoyed a trip to the vet. Anyway this is one of my favorite pictures of my two boys.

It is that time of the year again that the fair sets up shop in town and puts a big dent in my wallet. Kyle and Hayden took a timeout from riding rides and people watching to enjoy a "healthy" snack.

Kyle taking a victory lap on his four-wheeler after he showed everyone that he drives like a boss.

I am so in love with this little girl. I don't know if it is evident by the picture. She makes me very happy to be her daddy.

So I don't want to beat a dead horse and bore you with more pictures so I am just going to drink a Dead Horse and enjoy my Friday evening. I hope you do as well.

I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

  1. The leg photo nearly rivals the photos my wife took of my hand two weeks ago.
I think one of the best things about kids is being in awe of them.

  2. Has this sacrifice to the softball god ever improved your game? Just wondering.
Kyle and Hayden have good taste in healthy snacks! My favorite park/fair treat.
No wonder Tank is a bit thoughtful. Shots suck.
Drink your dead horse its good for what ales you! (horrible pun)
Feel better, dear Shife. No one can say you don't give your all for your game. Maybe ice would help.

  3. Boy you have had a busy week. Love the look on Tanks face, says it all. Glad your house suffered no damage from the tree.

  4. Oh I love the pictures... all except the fallen tree and the injured leg. The one of Kyle and Tank is great but the one of you and Hayden is a delight. I stared at it for ages, marvelling at the love that shows (yes, it shows) so clearly.

    Have a great weekend, Matt

  6. Were you safe when you made that epic slide, scraping up your leg? If so, that's all that matters. Poor some beer on those wounds. The kids and dog are cute!

Hey, remember Chud? I just reread that top 5 douche commercial list that I did and saw you and him both commenting back then. Just wanted to see if you stayed in touch with The Chud.

  7. Looks like things are going great up your way, except for you leg.

It was nice of Kyle to comfort tank about the trip to the vet.

I've never had a Dead Horse, never even seen one.

  8. Those are great pictures well except for your leg haha That picture of Kyle and your dog is really good, but I think the pic of your kids at the fair tops it

  9. Dude, that looks terrible. I can't tell you how often I've seen guys coming into the ER with all kinds of nasty injuries from sports.

After my own series of problems, I've decided to take it easy. Turning 40 helped me come to my senses!

Tank looks pretty content. As content as a Basset can be, anyway.

  10. Good photos. I especially like the ones of the wee little ones. My grand darlings just make my heart sing so I know how you feel.
    Hope your leg feels better.
