Random Acts of Shifeness

  • Why do I continue to watch "The Following"? Anyone else watching this? It is going along fine then it just does something ridiculous and I want to punch myself in the neck for wasting an hour on this show.
  • Thanks for your positive words and comments about getting rejected by literary agents. It is going to work out just fine, and this is just part of the journey.
  • I will be turning a year older next week. Birthdays are not as exciting as they used to be but I am grateful especially in light of recent events that I can celebrate with family and friends. Someone much wiser than me said, "Do not regret growing older, it is a privilege denied to many.
  • Speaking of those recent events, it definitely has been a difficult week. I have a few friends personally connected to the tragedies in Boston and West, Texas, and I just have them in my thoughts a lot right now. I wish I could do more but at this time all I can tell them is that I am there for them if they need me. I hope tomorrow is a more gentle place for them. "There are times when there are too few words left to heal us, when what we wish for is to be carried, when all we have left is the hope that tomorrow will be a more gentle place to land than today."
  • Back to my birthday. If you are wanting to buy me something, I would love a t-shirt cannon. I want to load it up and shoot it at all of the wonderful solicitors who like to come by and tell that I am going to Hell or that I need salvation. And the t-shirt would have something on it like "Romans 2:3." or maybe I will just cut to the chase and have it say "Don't be a dick, man."
  • This made me laugh.

  • I might need one of these to make it through the weekend.

  • I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

    1. So THAT'S what happened to all the dinosaurs... grins.

My family have special prayers for people involved in the recent tragedies. If only we could do more.

Hope you have a great birthday ... I'm looking round for one of those t-shirt cannons...lol.

    2. One year older means you've gotten one more year with your amazing wife and kids. That's far greater than any t-shirt cannon (although I do have to admit t-shirt cannons are very cool).

    3. "There are times when there are too few words left to heal us, when what we wish for is to be carried, when all we have left is the hope that tomorrow will be a more gentle place to land than today."--Amen.

The people trying to save your soul probably mean well ( I hope) but need to understand that 'No' means no' when it comes to 'fishing for souls' door-to-door. That is humanity for you: we mean well but go about things the wrong way to the point that it pushes people away and/or ticks them off. Maybe you could employ a #rapewhistle next time they come knocking?::joking:: If it's Mormon missionaries, try to understand that they are young and somewhere they're parents are praying that the door their boy knocks on will be opened by a kind soul who may at the very least share some hot food and kind conversation regardless of whether or not any conversion takes place. After all, we are to be the kindness and humanity we expect to experience in this world, yeah? Be firm, be polite, and perhaps buy those boys a burger. They don't get much of an allowance and some wards aren't very good about keeping up with feeding the missionaries so a hot meal is a gift that is savored and appreciated by those young men.

Oh, and Happy-almost-Birthday Shife, you ol' goat! ::lol::

    4. The t-shirt cannon would be amazing. Whenever one of my girlfriends makes me throw out an old tore up faded t-shirt, I could honor him by launching him into Lake Michigan: A proper burial.

Speaking of t-shirt canons, go Bulls tonight!!!!!!

    6. We cannot always rationalize why we watch what we watch on the TV. Speaking for myself, at least.

    7. I'm with you on The Following. Parts are pretty good, parts are pretty stupid. I'd quit watching but my wife likes it.

    8. Heard too many bad things about The Following to "follow" it.

And somebody needs to invent the cannon t-shirt.
