Random Acts of Shifeness

  • A couple of milestones at the Shifley household. First, Little Miss Hayden discovered that the doggie door is a portal to a whole new world. I came into the living room looking for her and she was out on the deck hanging with Tank. Second, Kyle started pre-school this week. He is only going twice a week for about 3 hours a day but still letting him go that first day made my heart ache so bad. He is doing good so far and seems to like it.
  • Maybe it is just me being a dude but when I get a phone call from a gal named Cinnamon I expect her to tell me someone found my wallet at the strip club. I am not anticipating that Cinnamon is the on-call nurse for my doctor giving me some prescription information. Cinnamon also makes a great safe word if you and your significant other are into some weird stuff in the bedroom.
  • My quote of the week: Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • My parenting tip of the week: 90% of parenting is waiting for the other parent to do something about it. I think that tip is going to get me a time out once Mrs. Shife reads it. And now that I have used the word tip twice in this bullet point I feel the need to reference "Wedding Crashers": Perhaps play a little game called "just the tip". Just for a second, just to see how it feels.
  • I don't mean to brag but I can still fit in my prom dress. Come on I have to throw a curve ball in there just to see if you are actually paying attention.
  • I have mentioned this previously but I am on the lookout for new music and one of the new bands I came across is called The Gaslight Anthem. Absolutely loving them right now.
  • Here are some before and after pictures of the floor. Sorry they don't give you a better view of what we did but trust me we are extremely happy to no longer have carpet in our dining room. My little model is doing her best to show you that hardwood floors rule.

  • I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.

    1. I bet you look very fetching in your prom dress. See, I was paying attention...lol.

You'll have to keep a bolt on the dog door when Hayden is around. Loved the pictures of her (and the floor). Isn't she growing fast? Nice that Kyle is at pre-school, he's ready for it.

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog. To answer your question, I was more than interested in the Olympics, I watched sports that I'd never seen before... it was all VERY exciting. We had several dedicated TV channels but as I couldn't watch them all I downloaded an app on the phone... kept up with things that way, watching sport on TV, iPad and iPhone, all at the same time...lol. Have a great weekend.

    2. I remember when Owen found the dog door. He spent at least twenty minutes going in and out of it, head first.
      It's the simple things.
      Love your new floors!

    3. Hardwood floors with kiddos and a dog = good choice. Quote of the week totally rocks. It's nice to be reminded to "let that sh#t slide".

      "Cinnamon"...poor girl. Her parents suck.

    6. Look at that smile! I almost forgot that I was looking at the hardwood floor. They do look great. We did the same thing in our living room... and we love it. So much easier to take care of that carpet.

My grandson loves our dog doors. He's 5 but what the heck. It does seem to confuse Roxy a bit.

I am a little disappointed that there is no prom dress. Just a wee bit.

    7. I get Sadie the German Shepherd sticking her head through the cat flap. I think she likes to see what frock I'm wearing. If it's the pink one she knows we are going for a walk.
I know that feeling when you first take the kids to school and leave them there.

    8. I'm always paying attention. Your slip is showing.

It's tough sending the babies off to school. I'd like to say it gets easier every year but it really doesn't. My daughter will be a Senior in a few weeks and it's gonna be tough.

My girl and I were cracking up at this post. I read the prom dress part, so I WAS paying attention.

    10. I love just about any quote by Emerson. I have a book with his complete works, as well as a smaller volume that's good to carry around. And the quote is good advice.

    11. I so know what you mean about making your heart ache the first time you have to send them out into the world without you.

      Peppermint, no, I mean, Cinnamon!

    12. I remember when my oldest was a baby and I left the room for a second and when I came back she was gone. She had rolled herself under a table. Your daughter is so adorable!

I'd like to see a picture of this prom dress you still fit into.

Kids grow up way too fast! My oldest is a freshman in high school and I still remember when she was a baby like it was yesterday! My youngest is in 3rd grade this year. He is still a baby in my head.
