Countdown to 40 - Day 19

I have been with my lovely wife now more than 13 years (married 5 1/2) and last night I was reminiscing so I played our wedding song, "Remember When" by Alan Jackson. Listening to it again just reminded me even more how it is a song that really speaks to both of us. I know not everyone is a country music fan and I only listen to it occasionally but the song just really defines our relationship. Mrs. Shife is a little stressed out right now trying to finalize everything for my birthday party - which is going to be great - but no matter how everything turns out, the most important thing will be spending the day with her and the little man. And it will be another precious moment in the life I have had with most beautiful woman I know.

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookin' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

  1. You are such a wonderful romantic, Shife. I also think you understand the value of what you do have. That's nice thing to know.

  2. Man, that is so much better than my wedding song. It was Jimmy Buffett's "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw". Looking back, I should have put more thought into it.

  3. It's kind of bitter sweet when the kids finally move away.
Looking back, I guess "Put another log on the fire." wasn't the best choice for a wedding song.

  4. Good times shall be had my friend! I'll eat a cupcake for you.

  5. It's a really great song, and one of the few "country" songs I like. And that means a lot, considering the 17 year old metal-head in me would probably kick my ass for saying something so blasphemous to metal.

  6. Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it's not good.
