Countdown to 40 - Day 1

I thought I would share my thoughts and feelings as I get closer and closer to the big 4-0. Plus I need to seriously get my butt in gear with this blog and actually do some blogging. It is a darn shame that they don't blog themselves.

So on to the big 4-0 ... some of you beloved readers have been there and some of you will be there some day. Well my some day is just around the corner - April 24 - and my goal is to write every day up to then about what is going on with me and what I am experiencing. I know when the clock strikes midnight I am still going to be the same person but just another year older. Turning 40 can be scary I guess and some people probably think it is a good time to take stock of their life. Every day will be different for me but right now I feel fine. The only thing of consequence to report is that I did accomplish one of my goals and still have hair. I have had a love-hate relationship with my hair for years and I honestly thought I would be a baldy by the time 40 rolled around. Both of grandfathers were bald, my uncles are bald, and my biological father was a little light on top as well. With those genes, I knew I had a advancing bald line in my future that would threaten the livelihood of my curly brown hair but my little friends held on and put up a good fight so it looks like I made it to 40 with hair. So with that going for me I naturally chose to go with the bald look to really reward my hair for all of its hard work and shaved it all off. Actually it is more of the boot camp look because there is stubble. I really like it and I just have to shave it once a week then I am good to go. So that is day 1 of the countdown. Talk to you tomorrow.

  1. 24 days of Shifness?? This just might be too much to handle.

50 is my scary age. I'm excited to turn 30 next year and really have no feelings on 40, yet. But 50...yes 50 scares me.

  2. Dude, your birthday is the day after mine, but thank god I am only turning 38! And I don't shave my head, either. I had a really hard time with 35, but so far the idea of turning 40 isn't so scary to me!

  4. You seem like you're taking the news of the approaching 40 pretty well, except for the whole part about going nuts and shaving your head.

  5. your eyesight is probably going to decline a bit when you turn 40 so buying a 108 inch lcd tv would be good investment.

  6. Here we go.... the day I reached 40... big surprise, nothing happened. I was still the same, or was I? On the brink was how I saw it, the brink of a challenging future. I got the idea from the old saying 'life begins at 40' which turned out to be right. I never looked back, all the nice things happened, I found things to do that I actually enjoyed, I made new friends, and suddenly life was a hoot. Enjoy it when it comes.

  8. Good idea, writing all of this. I'd like to look back and see what I was thinking about. After the birthday has come and gone, 40 is no big deal.

    Now 41...that's hellacious!
